My friend is having panic attacks and emotionally distressed. The army is releasing him under failure to adapt. How long does it take for him to come home. Is anyone in his family allowed to go see him? What is the procedure here and does anyone know a way to see him to save him from literally going nuts? Please do not give harsh answers, this has been hard for all of us.

Basically if they think he has mental issues they will send him to the mental ward of the hospital. He will stay about 2 weeks, unless he is really bad, then longer. They want to make sure he is not a danger to himself or others before sending him home. As a general rule, the family will not see him until he comes home.

It should take a couple of weeks for the discharge. Just depends on how quick they want to move.
