Anxiety and panic attacks? Please Help? Medication ?
Anxiety and panic attacks? Please Help?
Hello i am about 95% sure i have developed the symptoms to panic attacks, anxiety and stress in the past 2-4 years. At first i just tried to live with it but it has got to bad now.
i went to my GP doctor as advised on the internet, but he seemed not be be taking me seriously as i am 19 years of age. In the end all he recommended was to relax and maybe try yoga. However im sure from the internet that medication is available.
What should i do? i don’t want to pay for private care and medication should be available on the NHS (British national health trust) as along at is prescribed by the doctor
I would either try a different GP or try a psychiatrist as they can also perscribe you medication and also help you with some coping skills when you have anxiety attacks. Or go back to the old doctor, he is probably just trying to get you to take a more natural approach first but if he doesnt have anxiety he probably doesnt realize that things like yoga and exercise are impossible if you are constantly having attacks or feeling anxious. Why would you want to go for a jog if you feel like your going to pass out? Medication can help, just be careful as to take it only when you need it or get on a long term medication because it cna become addicting which can in the end make your anxiety even harder to deal with. Good luck!!

go to another doctor that cares. i had the same problem at 21 years old. i thought it would go away but the pain quickly got very bad and i thought it was a heart attack but it was anxiety. the doc prescribed me a drug called xanax and it was in fairly small doses. the pain went away within the first week and i was taken off of the drug in about 2 months and have been pain free since. be careful though because these meds are very strong and can be habit forming if you abuse them.

if you think you have them, then you probably dont. plus every time something wrong with somebody they think take a pill. pick up a hobby, work on ur social skill, lift some weight. go and talk to a bunch of girls. i use to get a little nervous then i would just go up to any girl and hit on them. over time u will get comfortable plus people can feel confidence. and u will be happy over all. and if that dont help you try beer

I have suffered from panic and anxiety attacks for the past 12 years. They started when i was 10 and my doctor put me straight on medication!
Nowadays they have to be wary as so many young people are getting prescribed antidepressants for the wrong reasons!
I have heard that St Johns Wort is amazing for the symptoms, and you can get it from your local herbal shop./

I’m 22 and recently have developed anxiety and panic-type feelings, especially when I go to work. The doctor prescribed xanax, but that is only a temporary solution (as it is highly addicting). I also take lexapro, which helps with anxiety and ocd. I still have these panicky feelings (as I have not taken xanax yet because it’s the middle of the day and it’s supposed to make you tired.) I would go see a psychiatrist to find the right medication, as you don’t necessarily have to take a medicine that is physically addicting. Also, try to get into counseling.

I am in my late 20′s and got to a point at which I thought that I was going to loose my job due to the fact that I am so anxious when I am around people. I did go to the doctor and asked for some help. I have suffered with this for ten years and needed to be referred to a place to get help. The doctor told me that she didnt have enough time to sit with me and fill out the papers! I felt like i didnt know where to turn to or what to do. So I have had to get help privately and now pay around 200 pound a month. It is really bad I think because there are people out there like us that really need some help and there doesnt seem to be anybody that wants to help, unless you are willing to pay.I have been on medication, however this is only a calmer and sometimes when I am working in the morning, I take this tablet at night, but I feel like crap at times in the morning. So I would say medication is not the answer. You may need to get some help privately. Also do not run away from the things that are causing your panick attacks, that will only make you worse. I have come so far, I think. Don’t give up;)

It is important that you know how to control panic attacks. If you know what causes your panic attacks, you can better prepare for them before they occur and be able to control panic attacks and your negative feelings. By learning to relax, you teach your body to follow your mind and control panic attacks. Breathing is the key to learning how to control panic attacks. Practice these techniques for at least 20 minutes everyday to control panic attacks. If your panic attacks are severe, it might be time to seek professional help to control panic attacks. Other ways in which you can control panic attacks including contacting someone from your support system when you begin to feel first symptoms of a panic attack. Occupying your mind with something else when you begin to feel anxious is another great way to control panic attacks. With these techniques and guidelines you can learn how to control panic attacks and begin to make the journey toward recovery.
Therapy can help with identifying triggers and learn ways to cope with the fear and anxiety you feel from those triggers. Therapy may last just a short time or for a year or more. Cognitive Therapy Focuses on creating an understanding of the thought patterns that bring on worry. Behavior Therapy Focuses on taming anxiety through control of specific ways the body overreacts to worry. Modern psychotherapy/psychiatry treats symptoms because symptoms can be quantified and identified, or so it is claimed by traditional modern medical and psychiatric practices. If you suffer from this disorder, your doctor may prescribe medications and recommend therapy.

you need to consult a psychiatrist, not a GP. The psychiatrist has the training and the authority to prescribe the appropriate drug for you.
