any ideas for medication regarding anxiety/panic attacks mine dont seem to always work?
We give drugs out like candy and you should be in some sort of counseling.
Dr. PHil had a show where a woman’s anxiety disorder was easily treated with counseling. Before she was on a list of medications. The Drug companies are trying to convince us all that we need drugs.
People think if they blink twice they need a drug. If your relying totally on drugs to help you, then your not being treated, your being medicated. You need to learn how to handle situations and to better react to things and you need counseling for that. Dont’ rely on a drug to live your life for you.

I don’t smoke it but I’ve heard that a nice big doobie does the trick, without freaky side effects and addiction like prescription will do.
I’d do some better research than yahoo answers though.
Good luck, good health

Hi, ive sufferd from anxiety and panic attacks for a while now. I was perscribed some sort of tablets, but found they made me tired and didnt actually help. i found that the only way forward for me was to tackle what i was afraid of …………………. to push myself one step further than i felt comfortable with. its worked hugely for me…………. tablets can only mask so much. It did take a while, and sometimes i still get them but i know that im in control now rather than my anxieties.

Fluroxetine are an anti depressant. but can also help with anixety. I have really bad anxiety attacks but cant take anything for them cos im pregnant so i spend most of the night pacing the floor its so bad, i havent found anything that works apart from medication, that just eases it. Diazepam is also worth a go

xanax works great…….however it may be too strong for some people. In this case you should check into ativan or klonopin.

OOOH YES.. i have anxiety and panic the only thing that ever worked for me 100 percent was effexor xr!! try it.. i had panic attacks severly and it worked for me..and to the idiots who were preaching that you should do it without pills and stuff.. some people have it really severly and with derealization and its such a bad imbalance only meds work to clear it up.. ppl who got better without meds are mostly the people who had a mild case of it..

Depends on the root cause of the anxiety/depression. Some people are just naturally hypersensitive and need to turn down the volume on their nervous system. Lack of sleep is an endemic problem in western society and lifestyle. Thus lack of serotonin is the usual reason this nervous volume control doesn’t work properly in some. For them a). Get more sleep. b). Take a good SSRI like Seroxat (Paroxetine Hydrochloride).
I’ve found virtually every other drug apart from SSRIs to give me constipation, even the Tricyclics. Hence the triedness and lack of motivation.
*SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor).
Currently, trials are being done on an actual brain inplant that does the trick.

I have General Anxiety Disorder and I’ve found that anti-depressants work better for me than anti-anxiety medication.
I cannot take anti-depressants that works with the noreprenephrine receptor though because it produces anxiety in me.
The best anti-depressant I’ve found so far is Zoloft. It seems that I can take them for 3 or 4 years and then they diminish in their effect for me, so I change to another one.
Lexapro works on the Seritonin receptor and for my anxiety I need the Dopamine and Seritonin reuptake inhibitors.
Besides all that, anti-depresants are not addictive and anti-anxiety medication is.

though benzodiazapenes are nice(diazepam, xanax, klonopin) they are highly addictive and when you discontinue use, your anxiety may triple. stress, diet and sleep are major contributing factors. if you can skip the benzos, i would…talk to your doctor about paxil, zoloft, wellbutrin, busbar, and a number of non addictive medications…already having a problem with anxiety/panic attacks, i do not think you want to add withdrawl to the list. Stay away from the benzo family!!! especially if you drink alcohol.

Try St. John’s Wort, you can get it in the vitamin section in any drug store. I found that helped. Maybe you should consider getting counseling, I think that would help you too!
Good luck!

I have suffered with GAD (general anxiety disorder) for 18 years. I have tried a long list of meds but most of them have not really worked. Xanax helps most, valium is a close runner up . Good lUCK.

Propranolol has helped me, go back to your doctor and make sure s/he listens to you. Counselling is good, but sometimes its just not enough and I find it a bit insulting when some say ‘pull yourself together’ etc, they clearly haven’t suffered from truly debilitating anxiety or depression. Perhaps a combination of counselling and medication will help. Best of luck and don’t suffer in silence!

Hi, I take a herbal supplement called Passiflora it has no side effects and you can take it with other medicines as it doesnt effect them. My dad is on medication for depression and the above you said, but like you say it doesnt always work.
As i went to the doctors when i was 17 years of age my doctor never wanted to give me any antidepressants for my nerves as fear of me getting hooked on them. So he recommended going to see a herbalist in my town so i went a long and she recommended these to me. I just told them my symptoms and she siad that Passiflora would be best, There are others depending on how servear your symptoms are. But anyways like i said my dad is on medication and they always dont work and when i gave him some passiflora they work wonderfully and maybe even better than his medication. I also recommended them to my brother girlfriend as she has panic attacks alot and is a very nervous person and she wont take the medication that the doctor gave her because of the side effects they may cause. And the other night she was very upset and angry and had a panic attack and i explianed to her about passiflora and she took them and was fine a few minutes later and the problem she was stressed out about never really mattered to her amymore.
Id go on to the website below and type in the search box Passiflora and have a read of it. You can get them in any herbal shop or some times on like if you do a search for them.
They are really good and have no side effects or harmful chemicals in them. They even helped my mam get through the days when she new my uncle was going to die. And last time someone passed away my mum had to be given diazepam. So if they work sort of the same i suppose do work.

why use medication – just use distraction strategies; listen to music from a cd ; that should help, or go on a treadmill

You need to talk to your doctor to find something suitable for you.
I take diazepam, but they only just touch it, not much use. Just gotta put up with them
