Can flaxseed capsules (1000mg) be taken with antidepressants?

I was wondering because I currently take lexapro and topamax. They do not work for me, they just take the edge off and I have been through so many other antidepressants. Would it benefit to take the flaxseed along with them? My exact diagnosis is panic disorder/ attacks with agoraphobia.

You poor thing. Don’t worry, it gets better.

Your problem is not depression, it’s anxiety. Anti-depressants, like Lexapro, do dual-duty and help "lessen" your emotional extremes. Paired with topomax, a mood "stabilizer," it should help narrow your responses. Flax seed may help, a little, but I recommend fish oil, more, unless you’re vegan. You need about 3 grams of EPA to about 1.5 grams of DHA (the two components in Omega-3s that help brain chemistry). You may also ask your doctor about putting you on propranolol, a beta blocker that inhibits adrenaline production.

The very BEST things you can do don’t require chemicals. Meditation calms the mind, exercise and regular activity calm the body and having friends or a counselor (professional or spiritual) to talk to will calm the heart. Happiness can’t be pursued, bought or achieved but it can be found if you work at eliminating the things preventing you from finding it and find the peace within yourself.

Love and light, dear one.

Hi, you may take flaxseed with your antidepressant. It produces omega-3 which will help primarily in fat removal from fat cells to be converted into energy, and improves blood flow. Vitamins that can help alleviate your depression are Vit B (B1, 3, 6 & 12). Take also food rich in Minerals such as Chromium (stabilizes blood sugars to avoid mood swings), Iron (improves energy levels), & Zinc (improves brain function). Food sources where you can get them are whole grains, oats, oily fish, & fresh fruits. Avoid foods high in saturated fats because it increases sluggishness, avoid foods high in sugar, alcohol, salty foods, and caffeine as they deplete the immune system and reduce energy levels.

Hope this helps.
