can i drink alcohol with xanax and vistaril?
im so down already because anxiety is taking over my life. i can’t hang out with my friends or anything bc im so scared im going to get there and get sick or have a panic attack. my girlfriend wants me to get out of the house and come havve some drinks with her. is this a bad idea??? or should i do it to try to get my mind of of being sick.
i dont plan on getting wasted. just having a glass of wine or 2. is that ok?
I really wouldn’t suggest drinking with the meds. Both of them can lead to drowsiness. Adding alcohol to the mix could put you in a coma, or worse. Going out isn’t a bad idea, just don’t drink if you do. I know what it can be like with the anxiety, I had a couple of friends give up on me because of it. But, I kept pushing through, taking my meds, talking to my doctor and the ones who wanted to understand stood by me. I am doing much better today, and am currently off medication. There is hope, just do everything you can to reach for it. Good luck.

To drink with xanax and vistaril? Is that a good idea?
Read the little pamphlets the pharmacist gives you (or the stickers on the bottles).
Alcohol increases the side effects.
If you’re drowsy now, you’ll be in a coma then.

No. You should never mix alcohol with any drugs. your liver and kidneys will be overworked and could fail, along with other health issues like changes in heart rate (alcohol slows it down, other drugs speed it up), and shock (body shuts down). Don’t try it. Speak with your doctor about problems with your anxiety and panic attacks

Not a good idea to ever drink with these two meds. Basically, the alcohol will intensify the effects of the meds that you can have some serious problems. Best case scenario: You pass out. Worst case scenario: Your respiratory system shuts down, your heart stops, and you die. Just not a good idea. Besides, drinking alcohol frequently can actually cause anxiety to become worse.

Two drinks? Sure, go ahead. Now if you get wasted, or you start having two, three, four drinks every night, you’re gonna get into some bad stuff with your body. But two drinks is going to mess you up about as much as two drinks would mess a baby up inside your girl friends stomach. A worse thing you could do is not live your life, letting anxiety rule you. Just don’t make it a habit. That should go without saying though. Ride your motorcycle to the store to get bread without a helmet, but don’t do it everyday. Have one one-night-stand without a condom, but don’t make it a habit.
See?
And another thing, don’t drink to get your mind off being sick, do it because you enjoy the flavor. If you don’t enjoy the flavor that much or you enjoy it so much you won’t stop, have a soda pop.
….I want to know why everyone is screaming their heads off about going into a coma when no one has even mentioned how addictive Xanax is. It’s so addictive that some people can’t go off like they can other meds. They have to get hospitalized and detoxed. I think a bigger issue than the alcohol is the Xanax. If you’re on a high dose I’d reconsider the entire idea of taking it. Hopefully that’s something your doctor talked to you about. Have fun on your night out and don’t worry about it. There is time to deal with things, like Tuesday after Labor Day.

Most people who overdose were probably drinking and drugging. It is not a good mixture.

you can, but it would not be advisable… go out with her.. you dont have to drink to have fun… get a glass of water or some juice or what ever non alcoholic bevarge you like… besides doing other harmful things drinking with xanax can cause you to blackout and act stupid and you wont remember a thing…

Go, but ask for lemonade, iced tea or something non-alcoholic. On Xanax, your apt to get real tired, groggy and hung over anyway. (And, yes, it can be a leathal combination.)
Tuesday morning, call your doctor for an appt. Benzos (Xanax) are depressants and it sounds like Xanax is playing that card with you. It also is addictive, and most likely you will start needing more and more to quell your anxiety. Talk to your doc about starting an SSRI like Lexapro or Prozac. (They are the milder ones with fewer side effects.) Antidepressants work well on anxiety, and they do not require you to forever take more. They are the preferred long-term med treatment. If it means anything, an occasional glass of wine is much safer on them. Talk therapy, however, is more apt to be a lasting cure.
