i know some one who suffered bad attacks six years ago and now is on medication can he wever be fre of panic attacks
will he ever be able to go to work
these attacks were server he was hospitialised for 8 weeks
so basicly you can controle them but not cure them ta xxx

With the medication and with therapy, it is entirely possible for your friend to make significant progress, given enough time and support. I know this from personal experience. How soon, or if, he can get a job remains to be seen. I would think it would be possible if he gets on a medication that works for him and is committed to his therapy.

I have suffered a few mild ones but I am able to control them myself by getting out into the fresh air and breathing correctly.

i dont think you can ever cure them. I have had panic attacks and i have just learned to control them by trying to keep calm,it sounds easy to someone who has never experienced them before but it is hard you just have to persevere. My mum also has them and she was bad but we have helped each other. My doctor also gave me a booklet and a relaxation tape to listen to which helped alot.

In order to solve a problem, you net to get to the root of it. He needs to have counselling or therapy to help him realise why this happens. Once he’s realised why it happens, he can then go about fixing the problem. In the meantime He should try to learn to relax – learning to breathe from the diaphragm instead of the chest – and making this a habit. Meditation or some form of relaxation exercises will also help (people who have panic attacks are often very tense most of the time). Learning to relax at certain points of the day can have a big effect. The more he practises, the more relaxed he will be in general. It’s really important to tackle the root of anxiety for it to go away completely though. And no, he doesn’t have to be on medication forever. Not if he gets the right help. I am speaking from experience. I had them but I had counselling and learnt to relax – now I just don’t have them at all. i haven’t had one for 4 years.

panic attacks are awful, you feel like you are dying, there is medication to help and this can improve things but they are personal and different, I had them as i have a severve illness and you can do self help excercises, such as deep breathing, or self hypnosis,I believe you can be free of them , by learning the triggers and taking self help actions to ease the physical symptoms which spiral out of control, its nice your friend has someone concerned for them, and you can help by building confidence and maybe being with them in difficult situations, maybe your friend could be referred to a phsychologist,I had this help and ther are various coping mechanisms to help, all the best xxx

yes, I used to have the most terrible attacks, all the time
& one thing that really made a difference was cutting out caffeine. avpid all coffee/tea & fizzy drinks with caffeine, even strog choclate.I promise u if he does this he’ll get 70% better.
Next, drink water to flush the system.

Also, deep breathing is the best remedy for anxiety, if possible sit quietly for 5-10 minutes breathing deeply. & take dep bereaths every few hours.

Out of all mental health disorders, I’m pretty sure panic disorder is the most easily cured through medication and CBT. Some 80-90% of people are Ok after therapy… looks good i think…

to be honest ive been tying to find the answer myself. ive been having anxiety anxiety attacks for almost 3 years now. i havent worked in the time, have had a terrible time just to leave my house and have become very depressed. i never had to be hospitalized and am on medication. i just started to ask questions about this for about a week now. i got to admitt that coming to yahoo answers has helped me alot just in the past week. i know ive had them for some time now but talking to other people on this site will help your friend out alot. im learning from other peoples experiences and they have said that they are learning as much from me as i am from them.if you want to talk more use me as a contact

YES! HE CAN BE FREE OF PANIC ATTACKS!
The main point to remember in this thread is that it’s only people who take an interest are replying!
I had panic /anxiety for 5 years and thought I’d never get over it.
BUT, gentle exercise and a helthy diet ( i am not talking about vege or atkins or any stupidness)
Just a balanced meal which has some veges in it, some protein, some vitamin,C (tomatoes)
Some of everything is the key.
and enough exercise (like walking ten minutes to the shop and back) Every day is enough.
Also keep clean. (it improves your confidence) and talk to people!
I know it sounds daft, but I say hello to my local shopkeeper every day, they ask me about stuff like the weather, and now we ‘feel’ like we know each other.
Before that I was afraid to talk to people.
Now It comes easy.
It won’t happen over night, but I do believe that social interaction is the key.
The other thing to remember is that nearly everyone goes through times of panic, and that nobody ever feels totally well!
Perspective can be a difficult thing to find when you are depressed, but it can come.
Don’t give up on your friend, but don’t ‘overhelp’ them either.
Disabled people need that kind of help, your friend needs encouragement. If you take away their reason for dealing with panic by themselves, you will ‘disable’ them from having the ability to do it for themselves
