What good for stopping anxiety attacks – Help?

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

What works for panic attacks, anxiety? Amino acids…if which ones?
I have been off of alcohol for a couple of weeks, been of valium for 9 months…Lots of worry and stress daily…I need help?

Meditate. Really. Imagine you are on a beach somewhere, or in the woods – somewhere you find peaceful.
Sit tight – I promise you, if you simply sit, and be still, you will not spontaneously combust. I’ve been off the booze for years now, and watched hundreds of people get sober, and I’m gonna tell ya, part of the reason why you are wound tighter than a swiss watch made in china is because you aren’t drinking….its part of your brain recalibrating because its not pickled….

Just breathe. This too will pass. Really.

You need to give your brain a little time to get used to its new settings. Trying to take things for it might actually make it worse. There is a reason why they don’t give newly sober folks a bunch of drugs to be more comfortable….newly sober folks usually want to jump out of thier skin no matter what…

So hang in there….get some phone numbers. Call some folks. Ask them how they are doing. It will get your mind off of your anxiety, and help you build some social support networks.

Good Luck

Major Panic Attacks, Need Input Help?

Monday, March 1st, 2010

My stress level is very high now, marriage and financial problems. I quit drinking alcohol 18 days ago after 9 months of drinking every other day hardcore, I am not sleeping good at all, waking up 5-7 times a night. My stress sensors are very weak, it does not take much before I have a panic attack, 115-120 heart rate, lots of anxiety everyday. Is this from stress and alcohol withdrawal? What can I do or take to get is issue under-control it is really effecting my life big time?

Yes, I answered this, yes.

Get to a doctor. Tell him what’s going on. Tell him everything you told us. You need meds to calm you down, or meds and some therapy. You cannot handle this all on your own. You need help. Get to the doctor, and get to church if you can.

Alcohol or severe panic attacks, I have to choose?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

I have PTSD from a bad accident in 03 where I was in the hospital for over a month expected not to live. I have about 10 severe panic episodes of impending doom per day plus diagnosed anxiety that lasts all day long.

Doctors have tried Zoloft and Xanax on me but they make me sleep all day. I started drinking and realized I can function and not have panic. Well, the drinking is out of control and I want to stop. I don’t want the panic attacks coming back tho!

Anyone else in this situation?

what you need to do is some therapy, even if ur not comfortable talking to people about ur fears, you may find releif in getting them out and rationalizing them, on paper, out loud, online, or in your head even. everyone is going to die eventually, death is nothing to fear, drinking is only helping you to ignore the problem and chances are you will eventually have the episodes while under the influence of alcohol. it could be from buliding a tolerence to alcohol and when that happens it will ont affect you in the same way, and one day might not affect you at all. i understand this has been medically disagnosed but given the facts that it can be prevented, as youve done with alcohol, shows that there is hope, and in my opinon alcohol helps you to chill out and not focus on the problems, if you think of it as something different and rationalize your fears, you may not be struck with panic anymore or at least not as often. i have panic attacks too, but for no reason.

Why might a panic attack occur when alcohol is consumed?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

This never happened to me. But I’ve felt a lot of anxiety after I sobered up. That’s why I like to remain sober from alcohol. It makes me act like an extroverted jerk when I’m really an introverted nice person.

Help Stopping Panic Attacks?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

I have been getting bad panic attacks, fast pulse rate in the mornings, bad anxiety through day, not sleeping good, lots of worry, stress, financial issues.

I have been drinking alcohol off and on for the last 9 months, decided to quit a week ago, after effects to much.

What can I do for my anxiety and worry, this seems to be causing panic attacks?

I would like to get this issue under control without drugs?

Hi Steve!

Good question, and i will try and answer as precisely as possible.

I’m 17, and have panic attacks often, but not that often, around once every 3 months. They are distressful yes, and worrying, and i know what you go through.

In answer? What can you do to keep it under control? What helps me is to take time to take life in and stop, and think, and meditate every single day, to slow the body down through the strains and stresses of everday life.

Thanks,
Josh

Alcohol, Marijuana, Derealization/Panic Attacks?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

So yup need some help, bad habit you could say, getting tired of my anxiety and time to come down to earth again. Yes, i have smoked the grass about 4 weeks ago but that most likely isn’t the reason why. However, i have been in a habit of getting drunk every weekend with buds for about 3 months now. If stop the heavy drinking will these disassociation and panic attacks calm down?

I also have smoked a handful of cigars and quit for a bit.

You’re body is probably detoxing and is in withdrawal, I doubt the cannabis has anything to do with it, but your body probably wants alcohol or nicotine or both, I’d lay off it for a month, and when you start to drink, don’t drink until you’re smashed. If you didn’t smoke heavily nicotine supplements are probably unneeded and you should just wait it out. Good luck.

nineteen and panic attacks?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

I am a nineteen year old female who gets panic attacks where i feel like i am having a heart attack but i am not. I have had ekgs done and they are perfectly normal. I often have a hard time calming down, and I am afraid of alcohol, caffeine and nicotene and certain times. My attacks always happen at night. I dont abuse drugs and when i drank i did it in moderation, I quit drinking altogether and I dont smoke or take in caffeine at night time. ANyone have advice or ideas on how to help me calm down??

Hi, I’m pretty much the same sometimes. If your attacks happen mostly at night, and you don’t need to stay up late, try drinking sleeping pills, or havig herbal tea (with valerian or something) a few hours before you go to sleep. Have a bath, do something brainlessly relaxing, and go to sleep early. If you need to, wear yourself out during the day so that you’re tired by about 8:00 pm. Go to sleep as soon as you’re tired and don’t let yourself think about anything related to reality: that’ll just distract you and make you have another attack.
I had panic attacks similar to yours for about a month, but that’s how I got through. Good luck.

Boy do I have advice for you. Too much to type here, honestly. I have been dealing with panic attacks since I was 8 years old. I know that sometimes you dread even getting up in the morning because you know you will have an attack in that day/night. I am so sorry you have to deal with this. Please get online and talk with me any time you need to. I can answer any questions you have as I have researched, read books, spoken with Docs, and witnessed my two closest family members go through the same thing. I will also add that I was put on Ativan about one year ago. I take it as needed, a 1mg easy to swallow and very quickly dissolving pill. When I feel one coming on, I take a half mil and poof begone. However, do not take one every time I have one, only if I feel I can’t calm it down on my own. I have had intense training on meditation to solve my problems before they fully start. It took me years to finally learn how to calm myself down, but that’s because I was so young to begin with. Should someone show you certain techniques, you should catch on rather quickly because you are much older than I was when it all started. I wish you the best of luck. My yahoo ID is brandt.murphy@yahoo.com Please feel free to email me further with any questions. I’m happy to help.
