so, i have panic attacks often. really bad. i have an anxiety disorder but i haven’t been diagnosed with it just yet, but i get them so frequently i’m sure i do.

smoking weed always gave me panic attacks, but i never knew it was a panic attack till now that i know what a panic attack is. i’d feel like i was dying and it was just so bad.
also, caffeine gives me panic attacks. like soda, and coffee.
QUESTION : WILL DE-CAF GIVE ME PANIC ATTACKS? I’m obsessed with coffee. WILL IT GIVE ME PANIC ATTACKS OR NO BECAUSE IT DOESN’T HAVE CAFFEINE? OR does it still have caffeine?
Anyways,
I drink alcohol a LOT.
Like, two or three times a week. I’m a teenager, I go to parties, I have fun. I usually get fine, I would say that I have about two or three cups or straight liquor, and I get drunk but not too drunk, just nice! But sometimes, I do get wasted that everything is spinning.
I don’t plan on having this life style forever, but for now I’m just having fun.

Now, my real question is ..
Some people say alcohol TRIGGERS panic attacks.
While some people say it CALMS panic attacks, because it’s a depressant or anti depressant or something, i don’t remember.
I don’t recall alcohol ever giving me a panic attack

Starting today I will not smoke, or drink caffeine anymore, at least not as much.. Is alcohol the same?

I’m going to give you the straight scoop as I know after having suffered from panic attacks for about two years. Yes, alcohol does calm you. No, marijuana and caffeine will not. Go to a physician and get on an appropriate medication to up your serotonin levels. Stop trying to self medicate.

you could ( maybe) if you took the medicine in the early a.m. and didnt drink till late at night… really you are not supposed to drink at all on any anti-anxiety medicine at the same time at all. it will make you pass out cold in the bar and the police will have to carry you out.

Xanax alone isn’t enough for my panic attacks. Alcohol actually works better but when it’s too intense and I feel like I’m going to die or want to die I take xanax and alcohol. I usually don’t remember what happened half of the night which is what I wanted. I heard it can be fatal although I’ve never come close and have only done this a few times. I know this is not ok, and I want to know how much damage I’m doing. Maybe it’ll make me stop.

Not recommended to mix the two, though in small quantities, you may not die, but you may have other effects to think about.

I have been drinking alcohol off and on for the last 9 months, decided to quit a week ago, after effects to much.

What can I do for my anxiety and worry, this seems to be causing panic attacks?

I would like to get this issue under control without drugs?

You really should go and see your doctor he will probably prescribe you anti-depressants or a similar prescription drug you shouldn’t be ashamed take them if you’re really suffering from bad anxiety attacks.

I know I drink over the recommended amount but I hate feeling this way.

I know I drink over the recommended amount but I hate feeling this way. I see alcoholics and drug addicts about and if I was like them I would understand feeling this way but I drink less than a lot of people and yet I feel like I am going to die for 2 days afterwards. It doesn’t seem fair and doesn’t seem right.

It is unfortunate, but drinking alcohol is essentially poisoning your system, so if you really think about it, any amount of alcohol, or any other psychoactive drug, in certain people will rightly cause panic attacks. The chest pain you experience could be due to the stress on your heart from either the booze or the panic attacks. If you really want to continue drinking heavily(on occasion) I suggest eating a hearty(bread filled) meal an hour or so before drinking, plenty of water before, during, and after, and take some vitamin B to help your body process the alcohol. Also, try different alcohols, beer may affect you one way while vodka or whiskey may in turn each affect you differently. Another good idea, is to drink less and see if the panic attacks still persist at a lower level of alcohol consumption. Remember, it is nice to have a good time, just be wary of what you are putting into your body and what effects(present and future) it will have on you. Good Luck Man.

I’ve been taking Lexapro and Klonopin for about 2 weeks now. I had a couple episodes of panic attacks and anxiety attacks before. Went to the ER and they prescribed me to lexapro and klonopin.

2 days ago, I went out drinking with friends and overdid myself. Yesterday, I felt fine, no anxiety or panic attack. However, today, I had an episode of panic attack.

Could alcohol cause lexapro to not work and cause me to have one? I never had any anxiety/panic attacks nor depression ever since on medications except today. I did cut down on klonopin because the doctor recommended it.

Having a few drinks will counteract the effects of an antidepressant since alcohol is a depressant drug itself. If you care about yourself don’t drink any more – unless you are an alcoholic and you CAN’T stop. If that is the case then you have REAL problems…

a lot of my friends drink and go to parties and just have a good time. i would have gone much earlier if i didn’t suffer from panic attacks… it all started when i tried weed for the first time. i started to panic, had a panic attack, and developed an anxiety disorder. honestly, i feel a lot better now and i haven’t had a panic attack in about 4 months. i want to know what anybody thinks about me going out and drinking? i don’t want to be stuck in a party atmosphere with a bunch of people i don’t know and then have a panic attack. im also a little worried because since weed made me feel so weird, i don’t know if alcohol would have the same effect and make me feel really anxious. any advice on going would help too. im currently on anti-anxiety medecine as well as ativan for short-term relief.

If I were you first I would double check the interaction of the medication your on with alcohol. Then i would set myself a (no going back) limit like max two beers or two drinks with non alcohol in between to pass the time and fit in–you don’t have to get s***faced to have fun.Tell a trusted buddy your problem so he will be around and be willing to leave right away if you start to get anxious. Also, watch out being on the ativan its a real b**** to get off of, I speak from experience, good luck, be safe

I have been drinking alcohol off and on for the last 9 months, decided to quit a week ago, after effects to much.

What can I do for my anxiety and worry, this seems to be causing panic attacks?

I would like to get this issue under control without drugs?

The first thing you have to do is stop dwelling on the things that are bad in your life. Make a list of the good things. If you can’t think of any, ask someone close to you to tell you what they think are some. Some times we can’t see the good things in our life for the bad, and it takes someone else to enlighten us. I don’t know how much you know about Christ, but He has worked wonders in my life. Please read my profile, and if you want to email me I will be happy to tell you more about what Jesus has done in my life. When your anxiety comes on, take deep breaths and focus on something positive. I will be praying for you.

What works for panic attacks, anxiety? Amino acids…if which ones?
I have been off of alcohol for a couple of weeks, been of valium for 9 months…Lots of worry and stress daily…I need help?

Meditate. Really. Imagine you are on a beach somewhere, or in the woods – somewhere you find peaceful.
Sit tight – I promise you, if you simply sit, and be still, you will not spontaneously combust. I’ve been off the booze for years now, and watched hundreds of people get sober, and I’m gonna tell ya, part of the reason why you are wound tighter than a swiss watch made in china is because you aren’t drinking….its part of your brain recalibrating because its not pickled….

Just breathe. This too will pass. Really.

You need to give your brain a little time to get used to its new settings. Trying to take things for it might actually make it worse. There is a reason why they don’t give newly sober folks a bunch of drugs to be more comfortable….newly sober folks usually want to jump out of thier skin no matter what…

So hang in there….get some phone numbers. Call some folks. Ask them how they are doing. It will get your mind off of your anxiety, and help you build some social support networks.

Good Luck
