How to Prevent Panic Attacks and Anxiety – The Simple Guide

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/3438050

Almost every adult experiences stress related anxiety. In fact, many of us experience some type of anxiety every single day. For most people it is a normal part of life and probably don’t really consciously think about stress unless they have something to be really ‘stressed out’ about, like a big project, sporting event, or job interview. Many of us actually need anxiety to remain motivated.

But what if we’re the one in seventy five people who have anxiety which surpasses normal levels on a regular basis? When instead of helping us cope with tense situations, our anxiety becomes an excessive and uncontrollable fear of normal everyday circumstances?

Or worse, what if we experience that sudden surge of overwhelming terror, when our hearts start to race, our bodies tingle, and we become dizzy with the sensation that we have lost control and the capacity for rational thought? Clammy hands, sweating, chest pain, nausea and a shortness of breath. These are all symptoms of a panic attack, and a situation those who suffer from panic disorder quickly learn to dread.

If you have experienced either of the above situations, chances are you are looking for a means for overcoming anxiety and panic attacks. That’s a smart choice to make.

If left unabated, panic and anxiety disorders can be debilitating, and lead to further complications such as phobia’s, depression, a need for medication, and in extreme circumstances, self harm. The reality is, most instances of panic and anxiety disorder can be prevented. It’s simply a question of how.

Now for some quick tips…

If you think you might be suffering from panic attacks or anxiety disorder, first consider the possibility that your experiences might be caused by alternative factors. It pays to visit your GP and rule out thyroid problems, heart disorders, hypoglycaemia, diabetes or other environmental or hereditary medical problems.

With that done, it also helps to have some understanding of what actually happens to us when we experience an attack.

Panic attacks are discrete episodes of intense anxiety. They usually occur unexpectedly during the early stages of panic disorder. As the panic disorder progresses, the attacks themselves may become associated with certain stimuli or situations. This can establish a vicious cycle of ‘anticipatory anxiety’ whereby the situation where a panic attack originally occurred then acts as a trigger for future attacks. In severe cases, merely considering the situation without actually experiencing it can be enough to bring on an attack.

Learning how to break this cycle is a key element to permanently treating panic attacks. If you’re adamant about using natural self help methods to eliminate your panic, the good news is that there are numerous online resources which can help you do just that. In fact, if you know where to find them, you can get tips on exactly what to do and when to do it. There is one little technique alone which can be implemented immediately and is designed to stop the onset of a panic attack in their tracks. It’s very powerful!

What we don’t want to have to resort to though, is to start avoiding the situations which cause us to experience panic attacks or intense anxiety. For many people this seems like it may be the only option, but the consequences in terms of lifestyle and peace of mind can be significant. Imagine living a life where your biggest panic inducing fear is no longer present…how good would that be?

Learning how to prevent panic attacks isn’t rocket science, but it’s essential to be prepared and know what you need to do to maintain control. If you don’t, the risk is that it will only serve to make things worse.

Earlier I referred to a step-by-step method anyone can follow to overcome panic attacks.

Here’s where you can find it: Prevent Panic Attack.

Good luck with it all, and I really hope this helps.

today ive been feeling really panicked and anxious and often suffer from this however tongiht i seem to be having a really bad night !! i have had numbness tingling sensations in my leg arm and now my throat and tongue ….can anxiety/panick cause numbess tingling in the throat and mouth ??? or is something worse happening to me ??? please help

Yes they can. Anxiety can cause very real and physical symptoms. Symptoms I have experienced are: upset stomach, headaches, dizziness, palpitations, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, tingling in hands and shortness of breath, sweating, shaking and many more!

The best thing to do though is to rule out any other conditions that can cause these things. See a doc for a physical, get blood work done, blood pressure test, urine testing etc to rule out something more serious.

It is most likely to do with anxiety though. A lot of folk who experience panic attacks (especially for the first time or when they are having a severe attack) end up in the ER feeling like they are having a heart attack or dying.

Are you on any medication for your anxiety and/or in therapy?

¿ANXIETY/PANIC ATTACKS.!! HELP..!!!!?
Hi, My preausre is Mario I’m 30 years old. i live in Los Angeles, california and about 3 weeks ago i got a "panic/anxiety attack" it was something Horrible.! they took to emergency room at the hospital they checked my heart twice my blood.. my preasure.. and the doctor told me that i ws fine that i couldn’t be better.!! i was in shock bcuz i was feeling that i was gonna die or i felt that i was gonna have a Heart Attack.. couldn’t breath.. i had a Preasure on my chest.. my hand face and feet were tingling.. felt dizzy.. like i was gonna die or have a Heart Attack..!! a week later went to another doctor he also checked my hear and he told me the same thing.. i was fine!! he told me that i was having a panic attack.. i have been having them since them but not as strong as the first one.. if you are reading this and can help me giving me ideas on if all this symptoms are "NORMAL" for anxiety/panic attacks and how to deal with them. i feel like am not living my life anymore.. am at home thinking and thinking bout it over and over.. not even at work am in peace cuz is like this fear that it might happen to me at anytime anywhere and i get nervous so please if someone can give me a hand i’ll really really appreciate it.! by the way i don’t wanna take the pills bcuz don’t wanna become addicted the doctors gave me "xanax" and "valium" is this thing for life.? has a cure? help me to control it and become more relax and feel like am living again please.!
sometimes am at home just in my room or watching tv in the living room and they star out of nowhere.. like s preasure on my chest and hard time breathing.. is that the way they also star just for no reason out of nowhere.?? it really sucks.!

I know what your feeling, i get anxiety panic attack too .. rarely.. but its because of my past… and what i didnt do, and my deep regrets…. its very rare, but the tought of it all can suddenly just appear in my heart and mind, and i get a very suffocating panic attack, like you.. i took deep breath, trying to breathe, heart aching and i force and try my hardest to not think about it… and then i open the window, just trying my best to pull myself together. But i really hate the feeling, after i get that feeling.

I normally start to pray to God, ask him to help me change, and i feel so energetic and wanted to do the stuff i always said i do, but didnt and time go past .. and that was my regret! … So i made goals for myself, i told myself i will fuifill all these, and i felt better… Panic attack stoped!

But guess what?.. Next day.. i am back to normal, and i didnt know how that felt.. to feel determined to change.. i was back to my lazy self..

But i really should do something, or im going to die of panic attack, i know i will seriously breakdown! … So i am organizing my life, it was my old habit that i have to bring back, its requires effort, but im doing it day by day.. i am keeping an organizer, and im planning stuff…. its a step..

Just remember, that you cant get everything done all in a day, it takes time, so try to do a bit every day and hopefully it becomes a habit, and a good habit your develop…

I am young, but it felt like i was having mid-live crisis! Im almost approaching my mid 20′s… thats my young life almost gone! …

If theres something you really want to do, really get it done, make a start…. If you have any regrets, forgive yourself.. and forget about it, do your best to make up for it.. and thats all you can give, is your best! … I think you and I should live our live to the best, so we wont have anything to look back and regret! … but if there is something we regret, we should take it as a life lesson and move on..

Remember we are imperfect.. so we make mistake!

Thanks
A Concerned/worried husband!

If you find your wife in the middle of a panic attack, first thing you need to do is to ask her to relax. Ask her to sit down or lay down immediately. Tell her to breathe in very slowly and then exhale very slowly. Confort her that everything is alright.

She must not react to the panic attacks, if she react to it she will begin to fuel the attack and make it worse.

I went to the doctor’s office today to get some new anxiety meds. I wound-up with a doctor who was a complete dick, who prescribed me these meds with little details. So have any of you used Clonazepam and would you say it works well while having a panic or anxiety attack? And would you recommend it.

feed back is very appreciated! thx:)

I can imagine having some concern about your medications after a bad experience at the doctor’s office. Try not to take it personally; he was probably just having a bad day.

Clonazepam is actually an anti-epileptic drug but it also works well for anxiety and panic attacks. Simply, it’s a fast-acting sedative.

I personally know people who get adequate relief by using this medication. Just be sure not to combine this medication with alcohol because you may get pronounced sedative effects. Also, there is some likelihood of developing a dependence so be sure to use it as prescribed.

I am not sure but:
When i have an anxiety attack i start trembling
When I have a panic attack i feel like i am going to die.

Is there any difference or are they both the same?

Hi, it is the anxiety that brings on the panic attack. You cannot have a panic attack when you are calm.
people come into my new age shop with problems such as this every day. The panic attack is a release of the build up of anxiety or Adrenaline in the body. When the anxiety gets too much it has to have somewhere to go. Its a bit like if you keep shaking a bottle of fizzy drink it fizzes up and then rises to the top and fizzes over. Your panic attack is that fizzing over!

Here is an example of why we get anxiety and panic attacks
Say, a wild animal is chasing us. as soon as we realise this we are fearful and our hearts start beating fast. we feel short of breath, our body may tingle etc, of course you’d be running so fast you wouldn’t be aware of any of this This is the adrenaline pumping around the body. As it pumps it gives us that surge of energy we need to react and get away from the animal. It is called fight or flight, when we get this surge of adrenaline we can either stand and fight the animal or run! ~Whichever, the adrenaline has given us that power surge to do it.
Of course you can’t always run for your life OR fight, and so that surge of nervous energy is left there with nowhere to go, and THAT’S when you feel this dreadful anxiety, nervousness, fear and PANIC.

I suggest you get a calming crystal to carry with you, a GREEN AVENTURINE crystal or TREE AGATE. These are very soothing stones and there is a very pretty crystal called KUNZITE that is excellent in alleviating panic attacks.

Try lavender in the your room which is always soothing, burn it in an oil burner so that the room is FILLED with the soothing smell of lavender which is both good for alleviating anxiety, as well as sleep. And think of this anxiety as a tunnel you are going through. The tunnel is dark but there is light at the end, and you will soon reach the light, believe me, you will ) There is also lots of soothing music and sleep CDs to get you in to a relaxed state. You can get CDs to help with fears and panic attacks. With some the speaker takes you through a soothing garden, or to meet your guardian angel etc. These are Very soothing and of course the more calm you are the less fearful you will be. Take care and I hope you feel better very soon. Kind regards, Gillian

I have had anxiety and a few panic attacks this past year. I have completely cut out all caffeine which has lessened the attacks, but the anxiety is still there, causing an upset stomach, gas, and vomiting on one occasion. My question is if anyone has tried Panicyl and if it has worked for you having similar symptoms.

I am very annoyed with my anxiety and would greatly appreciate any advice on controlling it.

Thank you.

Hi Nathanie: I use Panicyl and for me it works great. My doctor put me on Zanax when I was first diagnosed with anxiety and panic and all that did was make me sick. And tired. A friend of mine told me about Panicyl and so I gave it a try. Good luck to you. I hope you find what works for you.

By the way, I think its good that you cut out the caffeine. I didn’t quit but cut my coffee intake in half and that seemed to help too.

…. Any information that can be shared would be most appreciated.

Adam has given you great information. As someone who suffers from both GERD and anxiety, I believe that GERD can cause anxiety, and anxiety can worsen GERD.

People with anxiety are said to greatly increase the risk of developing GERD due to a hormone called cholecystokinin (CCK). CCK is released when the duodenum (small intestine) receives partly-digested fats from the stomach. CCK when causes the pancreas to deliver digestive enzymes to the area and it also causes the gallbladder to contract, delivering bile to the area too. (This is why if you have gallbladder trouble, eating a fatty meal can cause pain–the gallbladder is contracting.)

So what does CCK have to do with anxiety and GERD? This article mentions one reason: http://panicdisorder.about.com/od/relatedconditions/a/GERD.htm

I’ve done some reading that suggests CCK is associated with visceral hypersensitivity (defined as an overly sensitive neurological sensory system) and that visceral hypersensitivity is linked to GERD. This is a link with several posts that, although they’re rather technical, make very interesting reading if you suffer from anxiety and GERD: http://forums.heartburn-help.com/archive/index.php/t-827.html

When I am anxious, my GERD worsens, and my esophagus and chest feel painful. Although I’m not convinced that anxiety can "cause" GERD by itself, I think that GERD definitely causes anxiety and even panic.

I used to dip and would get occasional panic attacks, I dont think it was related though as I quit 5 months ago and have had a few since then too.

My 12 year old daughter gets this feeling of not being able to breath and thinking her throats swelling up. Shes very healthy and active and a normal child. I use to get panic attacks but learnt to handle them and think about something else. M y daughter keeps asking is she going to die and im getting really worried. Her mom says to her everything is ok and i say calm down but i know how it feels. Whats the best thing to do and what could be causing this.

yes its completely possible, i have a very close friend who suffered the same symptoms.
However as far as I am aware there is nothing that can get rid of it, but you can let her undergo all sorts of help so that it doesnt occur as often.
my advice would be to seek help from a specialist.

Good luck
