suffering from frequent panic attacks, how can i make them stop?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

For little over a week now i have been suffering from panic attacks several times a day, maybe 6 or 7.. sometime 9 or 10. They come on for no apparent reason, even if i’m just sitting on my sofa watching television, or walking my normal route to the shops. I suddenly feel sheer dread, like the world is closing in on me. I’m a single mum to a 7month old, i need to get these attacks under control. How can i do that?

I know how you feel. I have bipolar disorder and I sometimes have panic attacks. It sounds like you have a chemical imbalance. Anxiety is normal in humans for survival but excessive anxiety can cause problems (ie panic attacks). The human brain can’t tell the difference between what it sees and what it remembers. Has anything happened to you in the past that has set this off? Certain environments and conditions can stimulate previous memories that have made you nervous. Along with a chemical imbalance can make this worse and irrational. Go to the doctor and ask for an anti depressant and maybe xanax. This should help calm you down. Trust me. I know from experience.

How do doubts and panic attacks relate?

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

i really need help on this one. how do you control doubts or stop having doubts when you have panic attacks? please! i really need help on this one, for my best friend.

Doubts are just part of the ideas which surround panic attacks. It’s hard to say exactly what a panic attack is – the nerves just go nuts and fire like crazy. If you observe carefully you’ll notice that you don’t even necessarily have to be scared – the panic part is mostly a physical thing. The mind searches around quickly for a reason for all this – and finding no reason then it begins to make stuff up – perhaps these are the "doubts" you speak of.

It’s said that this anxiety/panic is telling you a story – perhaps something happened in your distant past – as a small child – which scared the crap out of you. It got repressed or "forgotten" – and then later in life it returns. But now all you get is the crazy fear-like stuff – you don’t know the reason this is happening.

So that’s what psychiatry is supposed to be all about – putting together what really happened in the past with how you feel now. And when this is done, that’s when the story is told and the panic attack doesn’t need to occur anymore.

How can I stop having panic attacks?

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

I keep having them and im 25 I want it to stop so I dont die of one when im 50 years old!! I have a phobia that I want to overcome but it seems that my phobia seems to always win!! Because I cant control myself when I get a panic attack!! What can I do is there anyone that has conquered a phobia!!?? Anyone that can give me helpful advice thanks!!

Sounds like you need some counseling. You need to talk to someone about this. I started getting horrible panic attacks back in 2006 and it took depression medication and a few years before I could honestly say that I haven’t had one in over a year. The most important thing you can do is realize that you are actually still breathing, find out what the root of the problem is, and seek some professional help.. That’s what they’re there for :)

We have been together now for 4 years and we have a 3 year old child. He is extremely controlling with money especially when it comes to me. He now gives me $40 a week. He didn’t even give me any money for 8 months after i had our son, not even to get a drink when i went down town then he started giving me $15. Then i insisted on getting $40 a week if we had to live downstairs form his parents while we renorvate our house. He didnt want to give me that but his parents knew about it so he had to. But now he will not give me enough money for food and things for my son so my money goes towards that. He calls me names and puts me down all the time. And everything has got to be his way. he doesn’t care about what i need at all. He has decided he wants to have another baby and is trying to blalckmail me by saying we can’t get new furntiure unless i have a baby. But i wont because it is not a good situation. He won’t let me use the car to see my family 7 hours a way. he will not get counselli

pick up your child walk out the door and NEVER look back…. it is NOT going to get better, only worse….

you can create a better life for you and your child far away from this person.

Panic Attacks and How do you cope with them?

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Hi I have been suffering on and off from panic attacks for over 20 years! Now they are back again, I have had my heart checked and it is fine, but I just cant seem to control these things and the fear it be a heart attack! I know thats stupid. Has anyone managed to beat this thing and how?

The body’s chemical processes, one’s life experiences, and many other factors play a role. There can be specific elements of your life and environment that make you anxious and contribute to the problem of anxiety, such as work pressure, academic expectations, or major illness, or there can be a general existential crisis. Constant worry can cause panic attacks
Aromatherapy is a good treatment for anxiety, and you can do it on your own. Lavender oil is particularly effective, but you can also use jasmine or sandalwood.

Vitamin deficiencies – Vitamin B in particular can often cause anxiety. Try taking a daily supplement of a B-complex tablet.
Learn some meditation and yoga techniques to calm yourself. If nothing else, closing your eyes and breathing deeply will do. These techniques can be used whenever you start to get an anxiety attack, and also as part of your daily routine.
A daily workout will help you calm down. The physical exertion itself helps fight anxiety, plus it prompts your body to produce certain chemicals that calm you and make you feel good.
When you feel an anxiety attack coming on, you can have a cold shower or soak in a warm bath, whichever works for you.

When you start to feel stressed out, drink a whole glass of water, or else sit back and sip a cup of tea.

I need to know how to control myself and minimse the risk of having panic attacks without having to use drugs.

Deep breathing or meditation. Plus, avoid caffeine, alcohol and other recreational drugs. Messes up your brain chemistry. DO healthy things, like eat well, exercise, pursue interests, spend time with friends/family for support. Take care of yourself.
