I think I’m suffering from separation anxiety and I’ve been getting ridiculous panic attacks. I’m away from my boyfriend for about 3 weeks (could be more, could be less). To add to that I’m in a brand new place, in a high stress situation with no one I know. I’ve been getting stupid panic attacks where I just cry and get a horrible feeling…it’s hard to explain, it’s like I can feel the adrenalin going through my veins and my head…how do I stop this?? I don’t have the ability to go to a doctor/psychiatrist (sp)/or anything at the moment so quick at home tips would be super!

Anxiety attacks can quickly be resolved and mitigated with the right treatment. Anxiety attacks are natures response to a primeval perceived threat. This is what kept us alive thousands of years ago and is still in our genetics to some degree.

Ensure that each and every day you try to change just a little bit of each to assist you in overcoming anxiety attacks altogether.
Stay away from caffeine (coffee, energy drinks, etc.), drugs and alcohol
Try some form of vigorous aerobic excersize like jogging, riding a bike, etc. This helps to process some of the adrenalin that is released into the blood stream during a panic attack and reduces the physical symptoms associated with it.
Eat small amounts of wholesome food at regular intervals to maintain even blood sugar. Avoid simple carbohydrates like sugar, honey, white pasta, etc. as these metabolize very quickly and can contribute to a "roller-coaster" effect on blood sugar levels.
Take care as always!

so when i get really upset or im crying i start getting all shaky and i cant breathe. it almost like im choking on nothing. it like my throat is closed and i want to breathe but when i try i cant and i just have to kneel or sit and just think ‘breathe breathe’ and even when i do that it really hard to. and if i lose that concentration on breathing then i stop breathing again. is this a panic attack? if so what can i do to help me through this episode/ thanks for any help
thanks everyone for ur help

p.s. this has been going on for a few months and i dont want to go to my parents cuz i dont have the guts and a doctor would cost money (which my parents have spent enough on for me in the medical field)

kyle. im also 15. i would leave u a message but i cant do that on yahoo answers. email me.

:/ it could very well be. i’ve had about 8 or 9 panic attacks in my life, all last year cept one, on new years eve. once you get your first they come more easily. i get them if something bad has happened to someone i’m really close to, if something big is happening and there’s a lot of loud noises, pretty much, if something really bad has happened. (i worry a LOT.) lol
when i do get them i’m very shaky. i’ll usually shake in like convulsions. kind of like when you get the chills but on a much bigger scale. my heart will also start to beat really fast and i will forget to breath. either that or i breath unusually slow, and it’s shaky.
what i do to calm myself down is i curl up into a ball and just concentrate on breathing and bringing my heart rate down.
i’m definitely no doctor and i’ve never seen a doctor about this, this is just what’s happened to me and what i’ve sort of learned from google.
also, you might check this out:

hope this helped a little bit, and good luck! (sorry that was all kinda long lol)

Everyone I speak to in UK has had or is having panic attacks. Why?? I left UK 20 yrs ago – I can’t remember anyone having panic attacks or despression … why now? Do you think it has to do with diet as the food quality in UK has gone down incredibly in the past 20 yrs! Pre-prepared food – frozen dinners – meat with added water! It’s the thing I can think of that is common with most people. My sister has suffered from panic attacks/depression for 5+ yrs and it’s driving me mad as I can’t help her nor can I stop them. It’s very upsetting to hear about them daily.

Too much stress/anxiety & lack of sleep/relaxation.
Not enough time for proper communication/wellness
Not enough love care & compassion
Lack of family cohesion and emotional support
Too much work
Poor food quality/environmental chemicals
All of the above affect our sense of security & wellbeing

It’s not just panic attacks either same for depression /mental diseases in general.

Nope but I’d learn some deep breathing exercises b/c during a panic attack you’re really exhaling too much oxygen and inhaling too much
carbon dioxide. So you breathe into a paper bag until your breathing slows.

Then I suggest you stand, place your hand on your diaphragm and breathe in until you can feel your stomach cave in, then slowly exhale.

A lot of stressed people just breathe from their chest and do not get a lof oxygen throughout their body, thus the numbness.

I’m currently suffering from acute panic attacks and I’ve been having them for months. I can’t take prescription medication because of the strong side-effects that follows. I’ve been trying herbs (valerian, ignatia, passion flower) but nothing seems to work.

Are there any natural ways such as breathing exercises that can end my panic attacks. Thanks a lot, I appreciate any help.

A panic attack is very treatable. What you need to do first and foremost is accept that you have a little problem, a problem that does not let you perceive certain painful situations in the right way.

Instead of worrying about all the reactions that happen in your body when the mind is triggered, try to focus on re-thinking and re-living that triggering situation over and over again until your mind develops the art of looking at it calmly without going insane.

Once you learn how to do this, you will see that your mental and physical health improves a great deal, which will improve your overall quality of life.

I`m 14 years old, and I got my first panic attack last year. I got really scared. I haven`t asked for help yet coz when I have a problem I think I`m the only one, and no one understands me. If I don`t see a doctor, can it become worse and harm me? Have you ever gotten a panic attack? HELP! PLS!

Anxiety and panic attacks are not generally harmful, especially for someone your age. But they are very scary, and uncomfortable. Panic attacks are basically an amplified version of our fight or flight instinct. That is why when you are having one, you feel that you just need to get out of the situation.

I would suggest that you journal your attacks for a little while, and try to determine when they are occurring. Is it only in certain situations, or do they happen for no apparent reason? What symptoms do you have during a panic attack? Log that information for a few days, then go to see the doc. I have them pretty badly, and am still receiving treatment, but they are getting better, and I am learning how to deal with them.

But you should definitely tell your folks that you need to see the doc, because there very well could be something else going on.

Hope this is helpful
