In class I had a mild panic attack when the professor talked to our group. I went home immediately after class. As an individual in research psychology I was pretty privy with my symptoms I was experiencing, I self diagnosed myself GAD and took a number of self-tests. I am unsure of what route to go in terms of care. I’ve always been a very nervous/anxious individual, but it seem as if in the past year things have really escalated, and they’ve been affecting me negatively.

I made an appointment with my physician, but she would not be available for a week and half. I’m at wits end because I do not want to wait that long. I contacted an urgent care facility in the area, but the registrar said they might refer me elsewhere due to them being mostly a medical facility and is completely unsure if they would treat or prescribe me anything. So I’m cautious to go there.

any help would be appreciated

Just wondering what you are calling a panic attack… I had thought I was having them and was diagnosed with something else.

As long as you stay calm and don’t stress yourself out over this you should be fine for a week.. I would wait to go to your regular physician if at all possible.

I am going to the states for holiday (miami) and want to see a doctor for my panic attacks and Anxiety disorder but as i am a visitor i want to know how expensive it is 2 c a doctor without medical insurance?

I think instead of worrying about the rules and regulations of the traditional health insurance you now have or don`t have, I would forget that world all together, since anyone who depends on traditional health insurance rarely survives. Just go to www.NaturesHealthCareGroup.com Did you know that there are millions of people fed up with traditional health insurance? yes, and you can either suffer through life paying high premiums for insurance that doesn`t cover all your drugs and surgeries anyway, not to mention, endure all the horrible side effects, OR join Natural Health Insurance. Every Natural Doctor session, covered! Stop waiting, do it now and finally get you and your child healthy!

I recently recieved a summons for jury duty in Detriot. I have a valid medical reason for jury excuse. I got a doctors note and mailed it off. I am on medications for panic attacks, anxiety attacks and schizophrenia. The doctors note says that I am unable to serve as a juror and that I am on psychotopic medications (I take Klonopin and Geodon twice a day). It also says on there that I am diagnosed with manic depression. Will this be enough to be excused from jury duty?

I’m from IL and I also suffer from panic attacks and depression. I was summoned a few years ago and I still had to go. But once they started questioning the possible jurors, they asked right away if there was a reason you could not serve. When I explained my medical problems I was excused with no problems. I didn’t have a doctors note though and they may excuse you even before you have to go to the courthouse. Give them a call. Remember if you don’t hear anything you need to go or they could put a warrant out for your arrest.

The other day I had to drive a very long distance away from my home and in the middle of the drive, I got very panic-y, I started feeling sick, sweating, I started crying, I had to pull over 3 times etc. all because I realized how long I had to drive! But that was definitely not the first time that has happened. I acted like that everyday before my speech class, I have a son and my husband is never home-so if I get stressed I’ll start having those symptoms, and if me and anybody get into a fight I’ll go into one of these fits. I know I shouldn’t be asking a medical question on yahoo but I am going to see a therapist on Thursday. I just want to know what you guys think is wrong with me (from experience)? Also, do you think the therapist will give me counseling or medication? Or both? And what will they most likely give me?

(sorry so many questions)
Thanks!

If it helps this has been happening for a year and a half.

Those are classic symptoms of anxiety and panic disorder. I have had them in the past and it happened when I was driving too. It is frightening isn’t it? Very rarely I will start to have one now but it’s easy to stop it. Stress is a common cause.
Counseling will help you get control. I’ve found 0.25 mg xanax will stop an attack.

(sorry so many questions)
Thanks!
oh and also this has been going on for about a year and a half.

This definitely sounds like a panic/anxiety attack. You may have Generalized Anxiety Disorder, which causes people to have frequent panic attacks. But this could also be a number of other conditions. For example, I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which most people associate with doing strange things like washing your hands a million times a day. However, it really just causes me to have intense panic attacks whenever I become fixated on something that worries me or stresses me out. My heart races, I feel like I can’t move, I tremble, I sweat, sometimes I cry, and when it’s really bad I vomit.
Your doctor may prescribe you an anti-depressant (doctors love to do that…). They may also give you an anti-anxiety med, which is without a doubt the best thing for relieving a panic attack. Most of the very effective ones are controlled substances, however (like Ativan and Xanax) so some doctors are jerks about it and may prescribe something like Buspar….which I was recently prescribed and it does absolutely nothing for me. Ativan works best with me, but my doctor doesn’t want me to have it since it’s a controlled substance. GOOD LUCK

I live in the state of Oregon.
I have had OCD all my life & now anxiety is presenting itself as a real problem. Ive been having panic attacks for a long time now & people who know usually taunt me about it. Really the only thing that make my anxiety levels go down is pot.. I was wondering if it was possible to get a mm card, I am a minor, but I did heard that minors could legally ingest THC.

The best thing to do is to get your parent to go to a doctor that is know for giving recommendations for medical marijuana easily and have the card done in their name than they can get the medication for you and your can medicate at home.

If your parent don’t know you want to try mm tell them show them all the benefits of its use and how it could help you, and if they say no which is unlikely then just buy it illegally until your 18.

benefits of mm

I’m going to explain this as best as possible. Sometimes I feel like everything around me is unreal. I have trouble thinking and getting my sentences to form correctly. The best part of my day is right when I wake up because I don’t yet have this weird feeling. I feel great for about 3 hours after waking up but then I slip into this "altered" state of consciene. Sometimes I feel so strange it induces a panic attack (at leat once a month). I also have dull pressure in my temples (not sure if it’s related). I’m a male 25 years old, 5’8 and 150 lbs. Just wandering if anyone else can relate. Thanks.

You could be suffering form generalized anxiety. It effects people differently but generally you don’t feel like "yourself". It can also cause chest pain and shortness of breath. And the panic attacks are a definite sign. I highly recommend seeing your doctor and explaining your symptoms. There are medications that he can give you to help. Be careful because anxiety can also lead to depression. I know because I have had it and am now on Paxil. Take my advice, talk to your doctor. And, no, your not losing your mind, it is just something that people go through.
Good luck!

My friend is having panic attacks and emotionally distressed. The army is releasing him under failure to adapt. How long does it take for him to come home. Is anyone in his family allowed to go see him? What is the procedure here and does anyone know a way to see him to save him from literally going nuts? Please do not give harsh answers, this has been hard for all of us.

Basically if they think he has mental issues they will send him to the mental ward of the hospital. He will stay about 2 weeks, unless he is really bad, then longer. They want to make sure he is not a danger to himself or others before sending him home. As a general rule, the family will not see him until he comes home.

It should take a couple of weeks for the discharge. Just depends on how quick they want to move.

MAs are not licensed; so the misdemeanor would probably not have to be reported anywhere (when you apply for licenses is generally where these things are reported). An employer MAY ask if you have ever been convicted of a ….whatever; in which case you would answer truthfully.

Did you check with Will County Health Department? You could try to check into the psych unit at Silver or St. Joe’s Go thru the emergency room. Play it up if you have too. Once you’re admitted a doctor will be assigned to you. Good luck
