Did my panic attack mean something?

Monday, March 1st, 2010

This guy I was with over the weekend —known him for 4 years off and on dating… etc.

He told me he was ready to be married and sees me as special wants..me… etc…

Then the next morning during breakfast I got nauseous and started panicking…

Do you think I started panicking because he said he wanted to marry me? Most women would be thrilled… i’m terrified!!

It took me some time to think about why I was panicking, but it’s because the emotions were overwhelming..

Any insight would help. Thx!

I can see how thoughts of terror could lead to a panic attack…

Would a panic attack effect my ability to focus?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I think I might have had a panic attack about a week ago and since then I have felt very anxious and nervous. It’s also really hard for me to focus on just normal everyday things. It was the first time I had ever had an attack like that before so I just wanted to see if anyone has experienced anything like this. Thanks in advance everyone!

Believe me, my friend…if you had a panic attack – you’d know it. There would be no question. It’s horrifying! You feel like you’re dying and going to hell and there’s no hope and nothing that can ever, ever stop it.

Some people say that it feels like a heart attack. Every panic attack I ever had in my younger years, an ambulance was called. They couldn’t find anything wrong.

But yes – it can cause you to lose focus. I had my gallbladder out, was diagnosed with this, that, put on so many meds that I had to pack around a bag with me. It wasn’t fun. All the while, the doctors kept on telling me…"we can’t pinpoint what’s wrong with you!" :(

In the end…I ended the attacks on my own. I stopped caffeine, started eating right, got 8 hours of sleep per night, and began exercising. I refused to give my panic any more power. It was hard at first…but today, I haven’t had a panic attack in over…oh, 15 years?

(I also stopped using alcohol, which I justified as needing to "numb myself" during the worst attacks. It was a quick, easy fix, but it only intensified the next attack.)

Believe me…it’s wonderful living panic-free! :) You can do it.

Is it normal to see double vision just before a panic attack?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I keep having these spells where my heart beats really fast and I get all shaky an short of breath and faint and all that fun. The doctor said it was panic attacks, even though I can’t think of anything that would cause such a thing. Now I’m having these spells and my vision is doubling and shaking before and during these attacks! Ahhh, help!

Panic attacks can cause that & many other physical symptoms, the racing heart, sweating, dizziness etc.

Do a search of panic attacks & you’ll be amazed how many symptoms there are.

If you’ve already been checked out by your Dr. and that is what he says, then that is what it is.

The thing about panic attacks, once you have one, then you are always waiting for the next one to happen & that in itself makes you have more anxiety and it’s like a vicious circle.

Getting over panic attacks is not easy as more worry only brings on more panic attacks.

Why would a panic attack lower my blood sugar?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Had one once that did that when I had a panic/flashback type attack from a time I once had taken too much insulin.

One of the body’s reactions to low blood sugar is that the adrenal glands increase production, dumping more adrenaline in your system. That’s probably what produced your panic attack rather than the low blood sugar being caused by the panic attack.

Can you have 1 panic attack during a rough time and never have another, Or am I going to have them forever?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

My grandmother died last week, and three nights ago I had my very first panic attack…I had no idea what was going on, I though I was having a heart attack. I went to the hospital, they said panic attack. But now I’m scared I’m going to keep having them. Is it possible for them to happen once and then go away?

Stressful situations can and do cause panic attacks. One of the main onsets for future panic attacks is the fear of having another attack! If you realize that this situation is the cause of the panic attack you shouldn’t fear another one coming about from a different situation. If you get a chance and are concerned about panic attacks and are looking for a treatment you can take a look at my website – bestpanicattacktreatments.com. I review several programs that are very effective. Sorry to hear about your grandmother and hopefully your panic attack is an isolated incident

If I were to take a Alprazolam before bed would it help avoid a panic attack in the morning?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

I am beginning to understand my panic attck pattern a little better and I am thinking that I am going to wake up very anxious. Wouls it help to take a Alprazolam before bed to avoid an ealry morning attack.

It might. It won’t hurt to try. Just don’t take more than you should because they can be very addicting and you really don’t want that. You also might want to seriously consider doing yoga at night before you sleep. I used to have panic attacks about 5 years ago and one day it just stopped. I don’t know if it’s because I got a little older or what but one thing that really helped me was this book called The Self Esteem Companian. You can search it on Amazon. I was looking for self help books and found this book at the book store. It really doesn’t have anything to do specifically with panic attacks but it really helped me. There are exercises (mental and visual) in there that they have that are really awesome. You should check it out. Maybe you could take the Alprazolam right when you wake up. Seriously though, that book might really help you,.

Do you burn calories while having a panic attack?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

As you might have guessed, I have anxiety and eating disorders. I’d imagine that I’m burning calories while I have a panic attack. My heart goes racing and my breathing gets heavy. What do you think? Am I burning any calories?

I would think you are burning some calories, but it can’t be very much. Unless you are covered with sweat after a panic attack chances are that any extra calories burned are minimal.

What is a panic attack exactly like?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

I have an intense fear of rollar coasters! When someone mentions them, I get clammy and nauseous and they MUST stop talking about them! At the end of my 8th grade year (this year), we got on a school trip to Hershey Park. I want to go to get over my fear, but I THINK I MIGHT HAVE A SERIOUS PANIC ATTACK! What are they really like though, panic attacks?
Ok, I am NOT looking for a way to get over my fear. Jsyk.

Panic attacks affect people differently.

I suffered from panic attacks for a while not so long ago but got over them by telling myself it’s just my mind and that I’m not actually going to die.

When you have a panic attack, you really feel that you’re going to die. The fight/flight instinct kicks in, and adrenaline will rush through your body, but as you have no need for it, you can often feel like your legs are stuck to the ground.

In my experience, I used to get really hot, breathe heavily and quickly, my head felt all fuzzy and I couldn’t move my legs. The first couple of times I had them, I actually thought I was dying and I cried afterwards. I’ve had panic attacks from just thinking I couldn’t breathe when I had a cold, and worrying about having 2 pints in my hand as opposed to one so they can occur at any time.

I had come downs from a panic attack too. I would shake uncontrollably, shiver and feel cold. After the come down, I would be on a high for a few minutes. Sounds really weird but it happened.

Best way to get rid of fear is to just do it and conquer it. If you feel like you’re going to have a panic attack, tell yourself you’re not going to die and that it’s your mind playing tricks on you.

After doing that, I can now bring myself to have a panic attack and get back out of it again.

How can i overcome my panic attacks?

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

My panic attacks have been getting worse lately and i starting to get scared. People at my school are starting rumors and i just want it to stop. Am i really going crazy?

Your best bet is to just face your fear. I suffer from high stress/anxiety/panic attacks as well, they are scary, but you just have to learn to live with them. It helps to talk to someone about it so you can vent your feelings and let some stress out. You can see a doctor and discuss it with them and they can put you on a medication that can help lower your anxiety as well. But definitely start by talking to people.

Another thing to help out is to eat healthy. Make sure to eat banana’s at least once a day as those help your body get into the right feeling. I had a panic attack a few days ago and ate a banana, drank lots of water, and then felt as if nothing happened.

It is scary at first, but you just need to learn how to put up with them and don’t try to fight them away, just let it flow! I hope this helps in some way.
