sports helping you overcome panic attacks and anxiety ?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

has anyone here ever done a sport which helped you to overcome panic attacks and anxiety ?

and if so which sport did you do ?

the gym used to help me a lot with feelings, and then I learned that hormones cause or contribute to all this, so, I had those checked.
Thyroid can cause panic attacks, anxiety, and a whole bunch of things, as well as other hormone imbalances
So along with walking, i recommend you have a blood test done for thyroid, sex, adrenal, cortisol, DHEAS , and then consult with the experts like those below

Anyone there suffered Panic Attack before? How do u overcome it? Medication or counselling?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

What medication were you given, does counselling help?

I had one about a month ago, and haven’t had one since. I think it’s from being sick though since my immune system is all messed up, but it had me so scared, they’re scary. I didn’t want counselling or meds, i just started eating a really healthy diet, and going out and doing things with friends and it does help alot. Just don’t think about it, just live life and be happy. Try to find out what triggers them though, and go from there. If nothing is triggering them though, and they’re just there, then you will need meds to treat it. But yea like i said, just be happy and eat well.. and drink LOTS of water, trust me it helps. Bananas are good to eat too they also help alot.

panic attack success stories without meds!?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Im sick of being a lab rat. I hate meds and their side effects. Ive tryed ever ssri and none of them work! The onl y one that worked was paxil and it made me fat, numb, and i lost my memory! Has anyone ever overcome Panic disorder without meds? How? Supplements? Anything?

You say you’ve tried every SSRI, but what about taking benzodiazepines: Xanax, Klonopin, or Ativan? Do you take these too? They’re a completely different class of meds and are needed for people with PD.

Benzos saved my life. I’m sorry I don’t have a non-med answer.

Is this characteristic of a panic attack?

My episodes seem to come out of nowhere; one minute I’m fine, watching tv everything’s good and then BAM! I’m overcome with worry and fear. Please help!

Yes. I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Its hard for me to control my anxiety, especially now as I am expecting a baby and cannot take medication. Anxiety is when you are overcome with excessive worry and fear over nothing. You may fret about your health, like I do, or money/finances, work, etc. I fear every ache and twinge in my body to be something life threatening. I get weird feelings in my head, like tension, and I get scared that I’m going to pass out and then I have an anxiety/panic attack. Is it accompanied by fast pulse, palpitations, shortness of breath? If so, it is definitley an attack. If you just become worried and fearful, it is probably just plain ol’ anxiety. I suggest talking to a doctor about it and see if they can give you some pointers, or if you feel it is disrupting your days, they can give you medication to help relax you and send you back to your normal state for at least a while.. Good luck but know that it cannot hurt you, you may feel as if you are dying but you are not!!

is there anyone,,who had overcame panic attacks??plz suggest…?

I have been dealing with Panic attacks for about 7 years now. I don’t feel anyone ever completely gets over them, but I have learned how to minimize them and try to avoid them whenever possible.

First thing you need to do is really examine your attacks. Is there a pattern to when/why you get them? Do certain people, places, or events tend to "trigger" them? If so, find your triggers and learn to avoid those when possible, or learn to make them less threatening. For instance, one of my triggers is being surrounded by people I don’t know with no way to "escape" (such as a party), so to minimize the potential for a panic attack, I ensure I have a ride home in case I need it, and immediately find SOMEONE there that I know, at least a little, so I have osmeone to talk with, and feel less isolated.

Also, I have been doing Yoga for about a year now. I have actually used methods taught there to overcome panic attacks in other areas of life. Make your muscles relax. Breathe. Focus. Clear your mind. Mantras…it all helps.

If you can’t find a trigger, speak to your doctor or find a therapist and discuss possible biological problems such as a chemical imbalance. Also, there could be repressed issues that you will need to face and deal with, so thereapy helps a great deal.

One last piece of advice: have a friend you can call or go to in the middle of an attack. I had one drive me to my knees, and I ended up paralyzed on the couch…I simply couldn’t move, I was terrified of everything. If I hadn’t had a friend to call, I don’t know how bad it would have gotten. Have a list of people you can contact when it gets too bad.

I hope this helps you, let me know.

is what i am having a panic attack?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

I drive over 200 miles at nite for my job. it’s lonely and sometimes on these 2 roads i start to get light headed and have a sense that i am scared of something then my heart feels like it’s going to go out of my chest. This has happen to me several times and it’s the point where i know one is fixing to happen and i can sort of control it. Will these ever stop? I hate to quit, it’s a really good job. but i want to overcome this but don’t know how.

Sounds similar to driving anxiety. Check the link for an article I found. Hope this helps.

How can I finally overcome anxiety or panic attack. I get this anxiety stuff when there is no reason for it?

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

i am 36yrs of age. Until three years ago i never used to have anxiety or panic attack. the situation seems to be getting out of hand cos now it affects my public speaking and annoyingly my writting. (i get so nervousand jittery when somebody is watching me write that my hands get frozen and cant even write my name without great effort. my hand will shake and my handwriting will be clumsy. And the kind of job irequires me to write all the time while a customer sits beside or opposite me.

i have tried deep breathing –sometimes its works but sometimes when i am already highly charged (with my heart beat pumping fast) it doesnt work.

i actually need a psycological technigue or help to overcome this. Cos i have come to realise that my thought and emotional state affects the degree of my anxiety. For example i tend to be less nervous or nervous-free ( as such i write well, speak publicly well) when i am angry or in a sad mood. ie anger, annoyance, sad event calms my nerves.

so pls what can i do to combact anxiety, always remain calm-no matter i.e be unshakable by events/situations, and in summary become fearless and worry-free. Thanks

Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. It helps you cope with tense situations. It also helps you focus on the task at hand and motivates you. Almost everyone experiences anxiety from time to time. Typically, anxiety goes away when the triggering event is resolved.
However, anxiety is a problem when it becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations, such as riding an elevator or leaving your house. People with anxiety disorder experience fear and worry that are out of proportion to the situation. These feelings are difficult to control and are more intense and last longer than normal feelings of anxiety. For instance, while it’s normal to feel anxiety before public speaking, a person with anxiety disorder may consistently worry about speaking with small groups of people in everyday situations.
Both normal worry and anxiety may be associated with the following symptoms. However, a person with anxiety disorder will experience these symptoms more frequently and intensely:
Restlessness
Fatigue
Irritability and crankiness
Muscle tension
Headaches
Sleep difficulties (unable to fall or stay asleep)
Feelings of panic, such as sweating and shortness of breath
If you find it difficult to control your worry or stress or if anxiety interferes with your daily activities, consult your doctor or a mental health professional. If you are diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, effective treatment is available.

My friend had a major panic attack at her home and now she is scared to go back home.?

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Sh ehas been staying at my house and other friends houses. She keeps making excuses on why she does not want to go back home. I told her that I could no longer have her stay at my house because she needs to face her fear. Do you all think I did the right thing? I love her but I want her to overcome her fear.

I treat people with panic attacks and have also experienced them. I would say that there is more going on at home than her having one panic attack there. See if she will open up to you, or agree to talk to someone about it. I think you did the right thing if it’s because of one panic attack, but as her friend try to find out what else is going on. If it’s dangerous at her house, then someone needs to know, and maybe other family will let her stay with them. In my experience, I’m sure there is something else going on there, even if it’s just her not getting along with her parents.

Panic attack sufferer easing back into sports – howto without exertion?

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

I have been having panic and anxiety attacks since quite some time, usually related with me thinking my heart is pumping too hard. I would like to overcome this, and have decided to start sports. How do I ease into it, so I do not overexert myself and crash back into an anxiety attack.

I know that PanicAway helped my friend, but I’m not sure it is right for everybody.

It Must be a Panic Attack. Is It?

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

I sleep late at night and wake up late. I was taking escitalopram 10mg for my anxiety. But recently stopped taking it by my psychiatrist.

After waking up, when I start to think what will I do today…….I start having extreme anxiety, Sweating, Palpititions I start thinking I am going have a heart attack even though I am only 18. I feel like I need fresh Air.

After going to bathroom and drinking water…….I feel ok. Have u ever had these symptoms of panic attack?

Am I alone? Please encourage me overcome my panic attack.

Additional Info:
I Can Run Fast and I can do cycling fast. I have no obesity, Asthma or Heart disease. My Pulse rate remains 72 – 110 even during panic attacks.

yes probably, or it could just be severe anxiety.
you need to go back to your psychiatrist and decide what to do about it, because it can develop into a disorder.
I get this too, just be glad you don’t get it in the middle of the night, every night!
For the time being breathe into a paper bag, it is clinically proven to help with this, and it really does.
It helps to balance out the acid in your blood, by making you inhale more co2 and reprograms your body, so that you don’t automatically hyperventilate – which is what you are doing when you think you need fresh air.

You are definately not alone!
good luck
