Does anyone else have panic attacks about going out the house?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

If so how did u overcome it, its ruining my life & I feel really stupid!

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this herb called "St John’s Wort" – it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
If you’re unable to take St John’s Wort, you can substitute it with Siberian Ginseng or Licorice Herb.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior – Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….

Panic Attacks, anyone else with the same problems?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

I’ve been having panic attacks for the last few months, and I’m finding myself never wanting to go out lately cause I never have a good time anymore (I keep having panic attacks when I’m out), but the thing is I REALLY wanna go out, but it’s like a subconcious holding me back.

Has anyone ever experienced this and found a way to overcome it?

I’m going to a psychologist and have been for the last 4 months, but its just not helping fast enough.

I have had the same problem. xanax and other prescription drugs can be very addicting and may only mask the problem. Your psychologist should be able to help you with breathing exercises and desensitizing exercises, and with time it does help. Hang in there I know how bad panic attacks can be!

i keep thinking about dying and then go into panic attacks?

Monday, January 4th, 2010

i have been taking panic attacks for over 2 years now and its always when im stressed at work but over the last 4 days they have been coming constantly i even went to the hospital as they got that bad. i am so afraid of dying and everything i look at seems to mention dying. how am i ever going to overcome this fear? and will it always be on my mind?

You’re half way to answering your question. You’ve already identified the stress trigger (realization of death) and where the problem resides ("will it always be on my mind?"). Here are 2 techniques that could help you.

1.Thought blocking – as soon as a death-related thought arises, stop and focus on something else and don’t look back
2.Cognitive restructuring – identifying stressful/anxious thought patterns and changing them to lead away from stress

Since death is THE most stress-inducing subject a person can face, you should face it gradually, taking it on step by step. You have you’re entire life to get ready for this event.

By the way, I know how you feel. I’m currently dealing with the fact I will die, and since I don’t believe in an afterlife, I have to come to grips with the fact that my consciousness will end at death and I have no idea what that is going to feel like. I can’t fathom absolute nothingness and I bet that’s what scares you too.

I get panic attacks before public speaking. What are some ways to overcome this?

Will xanax work. Are there any other medications that could possibly work.

Practice, practice, practice. Rehearse in front of a mirror (no, really!). Make your speech / presentation part of you — remember, you have something important to say! So, think of yourself, as if you were an advocate for somebody who had no voice.
Try not to do the med thing. Breathe deeply, calmly, regularly. Walk in there, like you’re the vp of a division of an important firm.
If possible, have a close friend give you a hug, just before you go out to the podium. Focus on the idea, of what you’re trying to convey, and that that idea, is important for the audience to know.

I have anxiety and panic attacks quiete often. Is it something I can overcome?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

I take clonazepam at night and day as needed. I always think I might can have a panic attack at any time. Is it something that will go away or what techniques can I do to help myself.

Try CBT and NLP.
If you dont know what they are, and you probably dont, google them. Much more informative than me telling you what they are here.

It seems from your post that despite you taking medication many of your symptoms dont go away.(correct me if I’m wrong)
This is because meds dont "cure" people with these problems. They are a temporary solution so that your problem doesnt interfere with your daily life. There is a notion that PA’s are caused by chemical imbalances within the brain, but no one has proven yet that these "chemical imbalances" are indeed a cause and not the effect.

I believe(and this is purely IMHO) that the reason is both psychological and organic. One thing is interconnected with each other, and if you treat only one thing the other will keep reemerging. Therefore you need to try therapy and natural supplements. Just make sure to ask your doctor about this because some supplements can interfere with medication.

But once i go through the cycle of life and something traumatic happens like it did i don’t want to end up here again.

Anxiety & Panic Attacks..?

How To Overcome Anxiety & Panic Attacks Im Having A Hard Time Going Out In Public Because Of This What Are Some Tips or Suggestion You Could Give Me Would Appreciate Your Help Thanx.

So many people breathe thru only the upper part of their lungs, and this makes panic and anxiety worse. To see for yourself, lie flat on your back on your bed and place one hand on your tummy. As you breathe, note if your tummy rises and falls with each breath. If it does NOT rise and fall with each breath, then you are not breathing thru the bottom of your lungs, which is incorrect.

Train yourself to breathe so that your hand rises and falls with each breath. As you practice this, over and over, you will be learning correct breathing, which will be beneficial to your entire body. It will also help to stop the panic attacks.

You need to practice this all the time, until it becomes automatic. You can even practice doing this while riding in a car, sitting at a desk, or whatever. Best wishes to you, my dear.

What is the best way to overcome general anxiety and panic attacks without using any medication?

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

It is very hard but it is possible. Anxeity is all about how we reinforce our own fears. When we feel like we are about to have a panic attack we will run from the situation, telling our mind that there is something to be scared of. Which of course the next time you put yourself in that situation you are guarenteed to freak out. The only way to really reverse how you feel is to go to the situations that make you uncomfortable and deal with the panic. Accept it, say ok I might have a panic attack but thats ok, I am not going to be in any danger, nothing bad is going to happen from this panic attack and be ready for it. Believe me I know they are extremely uncomfortable but you have to learn to accept them and when you show your mind that there is nothing to be scared of everything will ease off. It does take a lot of time and it certainly is hard but if you want to overcome this and you are tired of living in fear it is time to give yourself the extra push you need. NOTHING bad can happen from a panic attack except you being scared and i think that is one thing we all forget when we are in the situation. I ended up letting my anxiety take over and I became agoraphobic. It was horrible and just now I am able to push myself and I do. Even if I only allow my self to be in that situation for 2 minutes. I am not avoiding them anymore. But you need to be encouraged and you need to be complimented and when you went somewhere, even if for only 30 seconds, you did awesome and you need to acknowledge the good in what you are doing. Don’t be to hard on yourself. good luck to you.
