Panic attack?

Friday, February 19th, 2010

So i have suffered from anxiety for about 2 years. Mostly panic attacks every now and then, but mostly anxiety that I am going to have another panic attack. I have been on Celexa for about a year and everything is fine. I am slowly challenging myself to do things I reframed before I begain taking that anti-dep. Now I have gained weight, have no sexually appt., and basically just dont want to have to take these danm pills all my life.

the problem is, whenever I try to go off of the, the anixety comes back. Anyone out these experience this, and if so, how do I over come it. Thank you very much!!

What is it that you’re afraid of? Whatever it is attack it, until you do fear will have control of you. But when you have the courage to face the fear, you’ll find the fear quickly disappears. Courage always wins over fear.

There is no basis for 92% of the things we worry about. That’s from Earl Nigthingale’s Lead the Field. I don’t remember the break-down of the 92% but the biggest one was worrying about things that never happened. As Mark Twain said "I’ve had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened."

As far as getting of the medication, that’s a good idea because you don’t need it. You can beat this on your own. Use the power of your sub-conscious mind…it’s absolutely amazing. I suggest a book I recently read by Dr. Joseph Murhpy titled "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind"

the thing about it though is that you really have to believe that you can overcome your anxiety without medication. Henry Ford said "Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right." He understood the amazing power of the mind. How else can you explain a man with a 5th grade education building the largest automobile company of all time? He truly believed he could and didn’t listen to all the morons who told him he couldn’t. He thought he could and he did. And so can you.
Good luck. http://www.stoppanicattack.com

well its happened more than once
my heart WAS racing
i couldnt breathe
i was hot and dizzy
and i threw up
and afterwards i calmed down but i was really paranoid and shakey
was this and anxiety attack or a panic attack?
are they the same thing?

Yes you’ve had one 100% and its mega scary!
symptoms.
1.Racing heart
2.Sweaty
3.weak and shaky
4.giddy
5.shortness of breath
6.Feeling scared
So you have had one it seems, but if it happens again try to stay calm and breath slowly! another tip is to hold a paper bag over you nose and mouth, and breath in and out slowly and calmly this will make the heart beat slow down to a normal pace.

What does it mean when you cry really hard and have some kind of panic attack?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

okay, so me and my boyfriend get into fights sometimes. not fist fights or anything, but sometimes we will argue real bad and then ill say something to make him feel bad, then he will start to cry really hard and then he starts breathing really hard and starts to have like some kind of panic attack or something? i dont know what it is because it happened one time and i thought he was going to die. it only happens when he starts to cry really hard though. does anyone know what this is? its kind of scaring me.

Panic attacks are very sudden, discrete periods of intense anxiety, mounting physiological arousal, fear, stomach problems and discomfort that are associated with a variety of somatic and cognitive symptoms.[1] The onset of these episodes is typically abrupt, and may have no obvious triggers. Although these episodes may appear to be random, they are a subset of an evolutionary response commonly referred to as fight or flight that occur out of context. This response floods the body with hormones, particularly epinephrine (adrenaline), that aid it in defending against harm.[2] Experiencing a panic attack is said to be one of the most intensely frightening, upsetting and uncomfortable experiences of a person’s life.

How do you make yourself feel better during panic attack?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Suffer with panic attacks and just looking for some techniques to help alleviate symptoms of a panic attack. Any suggestions helpful

after going through tests to check my heart and thyroid – everything was fine, the best advice my doctor gave me was to breath in a paper bag. another trick i found helpful was to find my pulse on my wrist and count my heartbeats. after a few minutes of counting, i found this helped slow my heartbeat.

I too had difficultly breathing and my doctor told me that the attack makes you hyperventilate. when you hyperventilate, you get dizzy and sometimes faint (i never did). I was told, this is body’s way of taking care of itself. If you faint, your breathing will return to normal.

after I learned the worst thing that could happen is I would hyperventilate or faint, i finally got control over the attacks.

How come when you have a panic attack you cant breathe?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

I think its hyperventilation, but when i have one i cant inhale or exhale at all, chest starts hurting, all that panic attack goodness lmao. how come your inable to inhale and exhale properly to breathe during a panic attack? whats taking place in a panic attack? are you really "panicking?"

Panic attack stems from the bodys ‘fight or flight’ instinct. This response floods the body with hormones (adrenaline) that aid in defending the body from harm, and the ‘panic attack’ is a response from the sympathetic nervous system. The release of adrenaline causes the body to prepare for strenuous physical activity, therefore increasing heart rate, causes rapid breathing and sweating (to aid with heat loss). Because strenuous activity rarely follows, the hyperventilation leads to a drop in carbon dioxide levels in the lungs and then in the blood. This can cause many of the other symptoms of panic attacks such as numbness, dizziness, burning and lightheadedness. The release of adrenaline also causes blood vessels to constrict, causing dizziness and lightheadedness.

The person experiencing such an attack often feels as though they are unable to catch their breath, and they begin to take deeper breaths, which also acts to decrease carbon dioxide levels in the blood.

So to answer your question, your body is in fact ‘panicking’. When your fight or flight mode initiates your body is preparing to have to defend itself – and when it doesnt have to do so, your body has a hard time rebooting itself into normal mode. You are unable to inhale and exhale properly due to the secretion of adrenaline. What is taking place in a panic attack, i have explained above =)

Is it normal to have really bloodshot, red and puffy eyes after a panic attack?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

I have been having panic attacks at least once a night for the last 2 weeks and i always wake up from them with bloodshot eyes.
The next morning i get swollen redness arround my eye.

Is bloodshot eyes after a panic attack normal????

Yep! That is due to the rise in blood pressure from your adrenaline increasing your heart rate. By the way… you really should see a doctor.

What does it feel like to have a panic attack?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Last night I was laying down about to fall asleep, and all of a sudden my heart started racing very fast and off beat. I have a heart murmur and heart palpultations, but this felt completely different. I didn’t feel good laying down it only made it worse. It felt a little better when I stood or sat up. Is this a panic attack?

Hmm, I think they vary for everyone.

I get them but not too frequently.
It gets hard for me to breathe, I start to sweat a little, and my stomach starts aching.

I’ve read up on it a few times and there can be quite a number of different sypmtoms.

This might be helpful.

How likely is it that a person who is experiencing a panic attack will have an actual heart attack?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

And, how many people who have an actual panic attack and subsequently have a heart attack die?

The real issue is the ongoing level of stress. Stress is very damaging to the body. One panic attack is not likely to cause a heart attack but an ongoing series of panic attacks indicates a greater problem and greater stress. And the greater the ongoing stress the more likely that an actual heart attack will happen.

What is the difference between a panic attack and an anxiety attack ?

What is the difference between a panic attack and an anxiety attack ?
I’ve been suffering from panic attacks and wanted to find out more about it and how it links with anxiety attacks.

Thanks in advance.

I’m definatly no expert and to be honest, ive had my fair share of anxiety.

Take anxiety as the feeling of not wanting to go to work tomorrow because your fearful of what your boss may say about your work, take panicing as the feeling of being in that situation and feeling a sudden state of adrenaline and wanting to flee the situation

As you may know, theres a difference between panicing and anxiety, anxiety is usually described as an overwhelming fear or can be a long term worry. Panicing is usually a state where by the person will feel overpowering anxiety and will usually feel extremely fearful and want to get away from the situation as quickly as possible.

So, the main differences between a panic attack and an anxiety attack i would say are the intensity of the two. Panic attacks usually give you a rush of adrenaline and gives you that urge to flee from the situation, anxiety attacks can sometimes be described as the same, but sometimes just described as sudden feeling of fear or depression from fear without the feelings to flee or evade the situation.

I hope this helps.
