Am i suffering from panic attack?

A few years back on one of my trip to sch on bus, i suddenly feel that there was not enough oxgen for me. It was very packed on the bus early in the morning. I only know that after the feeling of having not enough oxgen, the next moment i blacked out.

After that incident, it happens frequently until now even on trains as long as it was packed. I tend to be very nervous and when each time i force myself not to think abt it, the attack will surface. Is this known as panic attack? I was an athelete but after the attacks, i cldnt run long distance anymore. Is there any cures for this type of attack?

You could be claustrophobic…packed places make you nervous. You might try holding your breath for a few seconds,,,then letting it out, and repeating this procedure till you feel your head clearing. Breathing into a paper bag also works the same way. What you are doing is building up your CO2 level which is a natural tranquilizer. If you still feel uncomfortable to this extreme, then there are medications on the market that will calm you down in these situations…Zoloft is one that you barely feel any side effects, but does work on panic attacks.

How can i stop panic and agorophobia from ruining my life?

I am 18 and I have suffered from depression and anxiety since childhood. I thought the anxiety was bad before but since i developed panoc disorder i pray for the old anxiety. My first panic attack came from nowhere in school, this quickly led to attacks every time i was in school and forced me to drop out senior year. I thought that eliminating that trigger would help or even cure the attacks, i was wrong. the terror of attacks led me to alienate myself from my friends, fear the idea of a job and eventually confine me to my home because the panic spread to any outside contact. I am growing more and more depressed because this is ruining my future and present. Even more frustrating is the fact that my family cant understand that something like this can cripple me with so much terror that i cant do normalthingsI have tried ssri’s, antidepressants like remeron and trycyclinsbut my doctoris hesitant togive benzos cuz i have a drug history.isthereany lessabuseabledrugsto help,iam in therapy

First of all, maybe you need to see a new doctor. A lot of doctors won’t prescribe benzo’s.

I had the exact same problem, but with the help of Xanax and Zoloft and therapy, I have conquered my severe anxiety and panic problems.

Try and find a psychiatrist who is willing to find the right combination for you. Different things work for different people. And a doctor who does not want to examine all options, in my opinion, is completely unethical.

Most of it is political anyways, the drug companies try to dictate what meds doctors should prescribe. Once a drug goes generic, don’t be expected to get a prescription of it as easily from a doctor who bows down to the drug companies.

Please I need help I have been suffering 4 or 5 years from panic attacks, I need to know if there is a cure to this horrible illness. Only someone that knows what it feels can understand. I want to get pregnant but i am afraid if this could harm the baby. Plus I am quitting the medicine but I dont think I am going to make it without it.

I know what you feel – at least I went through my own hell for some time with anxiety attacks. I was so sure it was my time to die. There are lost of techniques you can use to help yourself besides medicine – although be SURE that you are talking to your doctor about getting off what you are on because it can have an addictive physical component – as well as psychological, that can make it worse for you to get off. You might have to be weaned carefully to get off it comfortably.
Some of the techniques that you can be trained in is self hypnosis, stress management, yoga, tai chi, relaxation therapy – there are many of these and lots of ones like these that can help you learn to battle anxiety. Always consider what ever you learn to help you in your life as part of your tool bag – the more info (tools) you add in your bag, the more powerful and strong you are.
People pass into different steps in their lives and these attacks can become worse or better. When my attacks got real bad and I was suffering mightily, I quit my job – job was horrible and stressful. Almost immediately those awful attacks just stopped altogether!! I felt like it was a gift from God and was very grateful.
