Long story short – I am a raccoon foster. 2 raccoons who hadn’t seen eachother for a while were fighting, and they were biting eachother sooo hard, trying to rip eachothers throats out (they are both ok)

Its like -16 here and I was running around chasing them in the dark for like 5 minutes. I was freaking out. I finally managed to get them seperated but I almost collapsed because I couldn’t breathe.

I managed to get back to the house and was GASPING for air and could barely speak. I had to drink some water and lie down. It finally went away but I was still left with some shakiness.

Now my throat is raw and I am a bit horse. My chest hurts when I breathe in and I think its because I was gasping so much – I gasped for about 5 minutes.

I was so freaked out by the raccoons trying to kill eachother that I am assuming it was a panic attack. Do you agree?

I think you panicked, but in this situation panic was an appropriate response.

So as of late I have been quite stressed out from being overworked. Last night I was very stressed and my roommate never came home so I was beginning to worry about that too, because he was not responding to any texts or phone calls so i thought something happened to him. Long story short, I end up not being able to breathe for 30 seconds due to what I found out was a severe panic attack. This seemed to cause something to snap in my brain because I have had 3 more waves of panic today, though not as severe as last night. What should I do?

Hey, something similar was affecting me 2 years ago, but everyone has different triggers for this thing.

I remember my first experience. I had just fallen asleep, and I was dreaming a fairly normal dream. I was plugging something into an outlet in my bedroom at home (this incident occurred over winter break, when I was staying with my parents). In the dream, I suddenly felt paralyzed. My heart started beating faster, and I felt like there was an intense pressure on my lungs so that I couldn’t draw air into them. I remember thinking, in the dream, that I had been "electrocuted" and I was very certain that I was dying. I woke up then, and it was about ten to fifteen seconds before I could draw a full breath again.

Since that time I used meds, and holistic treatments. I used a program called Mind at ease 2 years ago, that worked great for me. Since that time they changed the name to panic away, it’s still the exact same product. An I really think it’ll work for you.

Well i have panic attacks is a long story short. They are getting better but its the eating habit it has gotten me into that i want to stop. Before I still had panic attacks just one night I decided to have a sand which before i went to bed due to the fact I was hungry. Now i have to take something to eat to bed as it is a habit and if i don’t I worry a little. Please help and suggest me some tips. Thanks Please no harsh comments.

Panic attacks are fairly common…just relax. No one has ever died from one.
If you go to your doctor, they will probably put you on a script of Peroxotine to take daily and a low dose of Xanax to take as needed. These GREATLY help. I hardly ever got any night time attacks once I was on the Peroxotine for a week. If you want to try a natural way, I’m not really good at those. Some people would recommend meditation and St.Johns Wort. Eating certain things before bed can actually trigger these too…If you do have to eat before bed, try sticking with something bland, whole wheats, oatmeal. Also, a glass of warm milk helps tremindously.

I have had anxiety for a long time but within the last week or two, I have begun having panic attacks and I cannot relax whatsoever. I went to the doc and they gave me a prescription of both xanax and lexapro but of course, I am nervous to take them because of all of the side effects that esp come along with lexapro. I know that medication works differently on people, but can anyone who has taken Lexapro please share their experiences? Thanks : )

My adult son has been on Lexapro for a year now. He is doing very well.

He suffered from anxiety which was to the point of causing him physical problems as well.

Don’t be nervous about taking the medications prescribed. You don’t become a different person. You just regain yourself and peace.

Oh, I almost forgot .. he didn’t have any side effects.

Both are good medications and will help you alot.

Everyone says reading is good for you. When i read i feel like that i get so into the book and the story becomes real to me. Sometime i cant make the difference between what really happen to me and what happens in the book. I started reading a story today and it became so real to me that i started having a panic attack. I do have a panic disorder but never had a panic attack from reading a story. Is this normal or do i have a mental disorder?

You say you have a "panic disorder", if that be a fact you must have been diagnosed by a mental health professional. Explain this to that persons. You may need some help dealing with it this.
My thinking is that you have a "over active imagination". Most young people have a vivid imagination.
Please, please don’t not listen to the pseudo psychologist that label you with terms like schizophrenic

I have to go for day surgery in a week to remove a breast lump which may or may not be benign. I’ve been ok up until this weekend & now I’m starting to get really nervous. I keep thinking all these crazy things that could happen & on top of that I’m worrying that it might be cancer. I really don’t know how I’m going to make it through this next week without having a panic attack. Please if you have any positive stories or advice I’d really appreciate it right now!!

I’ve been there personally.
First off the surgery itself is nothing, neither is healing time. Dont forget no eating or drinking past midnight the night before if you are being put out.
The good news is, your lump is coming out and will be biopsied. So whatever it is, its out.
I know its easier said than done not to worry. Do whatever you need to do keep occupied. And dont be afraid to ask questions.
If (and thats a big if) it cancer realize that you’ve caught in now rather than later and that survival rate is good… darn good.
I’ve gone through this 3 times so I can shrug off the fear easily. None of those times has the lump been cancerous. So think positive and take it one day at a time.
You’re a tough girl… you can do this without losing it. I promise.

Ok long story short.. I suffered a panic attack on a plane over 3 years ago, out of the blue for no reason. These attacks then started happening all the time and it took me months to control them, I developed claustophobia because of this and have managed to conquer this bit by bit by managing lifts, buses then trains etc.. Its taken 3 years! I am now wanting to get on a plane and go abroad and I am scared… I do not suffer panic attacks anymore I think I may just be anxious because it is enclosed and it was the first place I had one… Im interested to hear if anyone else has had this problem or similar and if you have any advice…? Thanks alot

I would advise not taking stimulants like caffeine and sugar. I suffered from panic attacks, and I noticed the rapid heartbeat I got from all the sugar/caffeine made my panic attacks worse.

Last night on Yahoo Answers I was expierencing a tingly feeling in my leg. Soon after, I think what I had was a panic attack. The next morning, this morning, I wake up and have another attack, I was scared for no real reason, just I was panicing. I called my sycologist and he couldn’t see me untill the 22nd. So instead, I saw my Normal Doctor and he wrote me 30 days worth of lexapro to hold me over till’ I get to my sycologist (Lexapro is Medicine used for depression but 2 years ago I was taking it for anxiety, my sycologist told me it was for anxiety also). So now, it’s hard for me to think, I can think, but I gotta work harder at trying to think. Also, I can see perfectly but since its harder for me to think, it’s also harder for me to realise what I’m seeing is actually exsisting. I haven’t picked up my perscription yet but what I’m trying to ask is, do you think I have some kind of virus or other chemical inbalance other than anxiety and some depression?

i cant help u much but my lady went through this same thing about 3 mos ago it was a terrabile ordeal excuse my spelling my advice to u is try not to sstay by urself during this crices try to understand that anxiety is mainly a fear of un explaining reason and yes she was put on lexapro also . she spent 5 days in a hosp ward for that its terrible yust have friends or some one close by u until it passes good luck to u from the bottom of my heart be well papawdj
