Did the marijuana give me a panic attack?

A couple months ago, I was at a friend’s house with my boyfriend. And I guess you could say I smoked (well, vaporized) a little too much weed and ended up having what I think was a panic attack and throwing up. Well, after my last long hit, I started feeling really really out of it, in a bad way. I just sat there, feeling terrible. When all of a sudden I started feeling extremely anxious and paranoid. I seriously thought I was going to die, and had to be rushed to the ER immediately. I kept thinking "oh, I’m going to die… I don’t want to die tonight…" My boyfriend tried to comfort me and have me tell him what was wrong, but I couldn’t. I just sat there with my hands to my head freaking out and saying "no, no…" After about a minute of feeling that way, I felt the need to vomit. I didn’t really feel that nauseas, probably because of the weed, but I remember rushing to the bathroom, sitting there for a few moments, and then getting sick. I had a really terrible head ache when I was done, but the overwhelming anxiety feelings were gone.

My questions are, does that sound like a panic attack to you? And did the marijuana cause the panic attack, probably from my blood pressure being so high? Because I know it’s possible for marijuana to cause anxiety as well.
This wasn’t my first time smoking, and hasn’t been my last. This was my only bad trip ever that has caused a panic attack. I just know my limits now, I smoked WAY too much.

It sounds very much like you had a panic attack because of the marijuana. Although people use it to relax, occasionally it can have the opposite effect and cause paranoia. It has this effect on me – because of this I like to steer well clear of it! I think this sort of thing is more likely to happen to someone who has an anxious sort of personality in the first place.
There’s lots of information about it, but here’s one article for you:

Cannabis can provoke panic attacks in some people. It might not be for you.

Man sounds like U had a bad trip. When mind altering chemicals are introduced to our brain…all sorts of crazy things can happen. But use wisdom okay if it didn’t feel good..then don’t do that if you don’t want to go through that again. Maybe one day you will get tired of weed and move on to another drug, only the next one may do worse things and even may cause an addiction where you body has to have the chemical or else you will have attacks and blood pressure problems and real health issues that are un controllable unless you get the drug.
Please be safe okay. cuz the man upstairs has a purpose for you and big plans for your future. =)

Yes it would seem so. The symptoms you descibed are simular to what many people feel when they smoke too much marijuana. In the UK we call it a ‘whitey’ Though you seem to have smoked WAY more than you could tolorate so it hit you hard. It’s the THC in marijuana that kicks your ass and make you have the symptoms you described.

Most marijuana smokers have these effects but not as severe. So much so, that people start to get used to it and think that’s just the way they are.

Do yourself a favor, don’t smoke again. EVER.

I can almost guarantee it will do more harm than good. Ask your boyfriend in ten years if he thinks smoking weed is a good thing.

Hey, I understand how you feel…

The uncomfortable symptoms like sweaty palms, "jelly" legs, extreme alertness, "impending doom" feeling and the fight-or-flight response.
I’ve been there. I’m an ex-victim. Sometimes the deep breathing or distraction techniques doesn’t work – a full-blown panic or anxiety attack happens later.
Sometimes you experience panic attack out of the blue and such.

Do NOT buy Panic Away, Linden Method, EasyCalm or the Panic Puzzle. They do NOT work – I’ve tried them and their solutions are similar – it DOESN’T WORK.
Medications do NOT work – I was under many antidepressants (Prozac, Lexapro, Paxil and Zoloft) and anti-anxiety medications (Ativan, Klonopin, and Xanax) but my condition was the same – no improvement at all.

The only program that really work is The Panic Attack Solution. It’s found by an ex-victim. You can check out his old blog in his official website to read up some useful tips.
But the package is the best – it teaches 17 powerful techniques and the real solution to panic attacks. I’ve bought it and it really helped me – it’s the BEST anti-anxiety package or book I’ve read.
His theory really makes sense and it works effectively!

You will learn why your panic attacks can happen without warning sometimes; why having stimulant causes panic attacks; and many-many other useful tips!
