Difference between panic attack and atrial fibrillation?
What is the difference? The other day, in a low-stress situation where I was on the computer doing database entries, I noticed the following symptoms: palpitations, sweats, dizziness, shortness of breath, nausea, tingling in the right arm to the fingers, and pressure on the chest. I did go to the ER and had an echo done (heart rate slightly accelerated but otherwise normal echo), a chest Xray (normal) and was hooked up to a heart monitor for a few hours. My average pulse was in the mid to high 90s.
I’m a relatively healthy person, I don’t consume caffeine, I’m careful about my alcohol intake, I eat fruits and veggies and other healthy stuff, and exercise daily.
I’m just wondering if what I had was an atrial fibrillation (for which I do have a family history for – biological parent) or a panic attack, especially since the ER gave me some valium and told me to take a day off work?
I am currently on birth control (Yaz). I’ve been stressed out b/c I have an undiagnosed URQ abdominal pain (most likely gall bladder disease, but docs haven’t been able to figure it out) and one of the higher-ups at work is targeting me by verbally reprimanding me (when I was following procedures) and denying time off for family emergencies, even though I’m doing my job perfectly, as per others in the department.
and my current resting heart rate is 96 beats per minute.
oh, and the symptoms lasted from 8am to about 10 pm. They were not accompanied by suicidal or paranoid feelings.
I’ve been having the same thing for a year now. It’s been frustrating to say the least. It started one night while I was watching TV. Dizziness, cold tingling sensation, heart palpitations, and feeling like I was going to pass out. I had been having RUQ pain as well. Went to the ER. Pulse was 122. They hooked me up to monitors and watched me. Said it was an anxiety attack and sent me home with Atavan. Happened many times over that month. Scared the heck out of me. I thought I was going to drop dead. Went to a GI doc. He did ultrasound on my internal organs and everything was ok. Went to a cardio doc. He put me on a monitor for 30 days and did an echo. Everything was ok there too. Went to an internal medicine doc and gyn. They ran extensive blood test (i.e., hormones, thyroid, hepatic, 24 urine collection, etc.) All fine. Did a hida scan on my gallbladder. Function at 14%. They removed it in Oct 07. Things haven’t really improved all that much. The internal medicine doc says it’s stress. GI doc says I have IBS. I don’t know what it is still. It’s digestive related – that’s all I know. Makes me feel tired, dizzy, my heart just doesn’t feel like it’s beating right. Just an overall not well feeling. I’m not an anxious person so the anxiety attack diagnosis is hard to accept. I’ll be watching this one and hope someone else might have the magic answer. Please….
