Do I have Social Anxiety?
Hi, I know I’ve posted a lot of questions about this recently but it’s been really bugging me. A lot of the symptons that people have described to me I feel that I have experienced pretty much my whole life (And I’m 16 now).
- A tendency to blush.
- A shaky voice and trembling of hands and feet.
- Sweating, mainly on the hands.
- Panick attacks.
- Muscular tension.
- Difficulty in breathing.Lack of air.
- Pain or pressure on the thorax.
- An urgent need to urinate.
Above is a list of physical symptons that I’ve found and looking through all of them has made me realise how many of them I’ve experienced. One of the most I experienced is shaking voice, pain on thorax and panic attacks. Someone else also told me to mentally prepare themselves for the day they had to get up hours earler than they need to which is something I find myself doing every day. I sweat a lot in my hands when nervous and when it comes to talking to people seriously I feel as though my voice is shaking and I’m autmoatically nervous that they’re thinking what I’m saying is stupid. It’s all I ever do, think about what other people are thinking of what I’m saying or doing. I hate to eat in front of other people and I often find I know that my situations where I’m shy are very excessive and don’t make sense. I’m scared of talking to teachers at school, so much that I’ll end up crying and panicing hoping that I won’t have to go near them.
I’m so scared of my future. I have panic attacks just thinking about it sometimes and it works me up beyond all belief. I’m so scared of meeting new people and having to talk to them. Sometimes I wish it was just so much easier to get through life but it’s not, in my work experience I didn’t talk to anyone at all and I cried about having to go. I cried about a mock interview that my school held for us. People say I need to just get over these things but it’s not fair because I know it’s different and excessive. This is something I’ve felt all my life.
Sorry for the length of the question but I need to know whether I should talk to someone or not. I’ve mentioned this problem to a friend and they say I should talk to someone but I’m scared they’ll turn around and say that I’m just over reacting and I don’t really need any help.
Ahh, sorry. Thanks.
Your symptoms point to social anxiety, but only a professional will know for sure. If you feel like you need help, then you do. It’s that simple. Don’t depend on other people to tell you if you need help or not. If someone tells you that you’re overreacting, then find someone else to talk to. A counselor would be great. You might even have to try a few before you find one that you like talking to. They can help you deal with the anxiety and maybe even suggest medication. You can work through this with a little support.

I have been trying to tell people that the free resource below works on all this and much more… so I hope you check it out and try it…
It might also help you to have your hormone balances checked and I am giving a resource for that also…
They both are selfexplanatory….

If you only experience symptoms in social contexts, or thinking about social situations, then maybe. But really, this isn’t normal–I would advise you to seek out a good therapist (preferably cognitive behavioural.) Also, get a book called Hope and Help for your Nerves by Claire Weekes if you experience panic attacks. I read it because I had generalized anxiety and panic disorder, and it helped a ton.
And don’t worry about a therapist telling you you’re overreacting. They deal with this kind of thing ALL the time! It’s not normal in the sense that most people don’t deal with it, but the people that do deal with it can get help from experienced professionals! Don’t delay in this, either. Talk to your parents about it and ask if you can see someone. Again, cognitive behavioural therapy is the best kind for anxiety disorders. Best of luck to you!

I’m 15 and in high school. I sort of have what you have…
i guess i would first suggest to see a phychiatrist…
although sometimes what helps me through these situations is thinking to myself to be brave.
what I mean is that everybody has their fears…people who are "courageous" have fears, but they battle through them
i not saying to just "get over it", because i can see this is a genuine problem for you then you feel very strongly about…
try and do little things to help yourself get more comfortable in social situations…you must learn to crawl before you learn to walk…
well… I hope this helped
