Does medication for panic attacks work?
What if panic attacks start to take over your life? Are there any good medications that have calming effects?
Be careful with the Benzodiazapines. I have been on one for 10 years and it has ruined my life. Even though I take the pills as recommended, it has taken away any interest I had in life. The person who said they are highly addictive is right. For me, it never gave me a high or anything, it’s just that I’m afraid if I don’t take it the panic will get out of control. My opinion is to stay away from all forms of medication if you can. I know people who have also been destroyed by anti-depressants.

I have generalized anxiety disorder and I take xanax which works great for me. When i feel like I am starting to get anxious I take one. They can be habit forming, but If you take them only as needed and dont get dependent on them you should be ok.Good Luck .. I know this can be very confusing,, I did not get mine under control for months until my doctor fiqured this one out..Go see your Dr and tell him how you feel and see what they can do for you. Good Luck.. I know this is a crazy time, but with the help of a Dr. you can get this under control..

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.
Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called "St John’s Wort" – it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior – Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….

yes i am on zoloft and it helped me SO much. I would get them like 3-4 times a day… but in a few weeks i hardly got them at all
I still have the fast heart rate but NOTHING like i had before. I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety. I still do feel anxious but thats just because zoloft only really ended the panic attacks. But you should talk to your doctor because medication works differently for each individual.
Best of luck!

Benzodiazepines. But they are highly addictive and can only be taken for no more than 2 weeks.
Other than that you can take an ssri which takes about a month too start working.
Most doctors will start you on both than taper you off the benzo after about a month.
