im starting to get into dream theater and i wondering which album is their best iyo. the songs ive listened to so far are:

pull me under
hollow years
a change of seasons
panic attack
another day
as i am

i really like what i hear.

oh, are there any other prog metal bands that are worth a listen?
lol çH?ì? ill be sure not to overload on dream theater! i dont want my brain to explode.

the answer to "their best album" would be every one.

start with images and words. that album was a realization for em.

next you could hit up awake.
then i would give metroplis part ii: scenes from a memory a listen. then train of thought.
octavarium would be next for me. and then it would have to be six degrees of inner turbulence, but prepare yourself for that one– there’s a forty two minute "song" on it. but don’t fret, it’s in like 6 parts.

and remember. keep at least 2 days between full listening sessions- overloads of dream theater have been known to cause brain explosions (from sheer amazing-ness) and random out breaks of air guitar/drums.

have fun. great band

Tool is a really good band and they have been compared to dream theatre in a way that they are really progressive rock bands

I like Images and Words.

Angra is a pretty sweet band from brazil, check out Temple of Shadows.

I started with Images and Words and it’s still my favorite…. altho I’m far from having a complete collection! Still, it was very accessible and I just love it.

Played it 3X this week!
(and I’ve had it for a year)

I second ‘Scenes from a Memory’. This is one of the best concept albums I’ve ever heard. DT took a whole new direction with this album. They added in layers of atmosphere and focused prominently on songwriting.

Check out:
Symphony X
Pagan’s Mind
Angra

It’s been said, but I’ll say it again:
IMAGES AND WORDS. Simply fantastic.

Other prog metal bands:

QUEENSRYCHE (If Dream Theater is fantastic, there is not a word in the english language to describe Queensryche)
