Social anxiety disorder is also referred to as social phobia. This is an anxiety disorder in which a person is abnormally fearful of social situations. The anxiety and extreme self-consciousness come from the fear of being closely observed, judged, and/or criticized by others.

Anyone with this type of disorder is afraid that he or she will do something to embarrass or humiliate her/him in front of others. A lack of social skills or not being used to social settings can make matters worse. Sometimes anxiety progresses into a panic attack. For these reasons, the person who suffers from this disorder will either be extremely ill-at-ease in any kind of social situation or will simply avoid them altogther. It’s not uncommon for people who suffer from social anxiety disorder to also have what is called anticipatory anxiety. This is basically the fear that something will happen before it actually happens and it can start days or even weeks before a certain social situaion is to take place. Usually, the person who has these worries realizes that their fear is unreasonable, yet he/she is still unable to overcome it.

This particular type of anxiety disorder distorts your way of thinking to incorporate false or extremely exaggerated beliefs about social settings in general and the negative opinions of others. Without treatment, social anxiety disorder can negatively interfere with the individual’s normal daily routine, including school, work, social activities, and relationships.

With a mild case of this disorder, the person may be afraid of a specific public situation, like having to give a presentation or speech. But in the majority of cases, the fear regards mulitple types of situations: eating or drinking in front of others, Writing or working in front of others, being the center of attention, interacting with people (including dating or going to parties), asking questions or giving answers in groups, Using public toilets, and even talking on the phone.

Social anxiety disorder could be connected to other mental illnesses, such as panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression. In fact, many people with this condition first seek help with complaints related to these other disorders, not because of social anxiety symptoms.

Tackling your anxiety alone may be difficult. If your anxiety begins to have the upper hand in your life, affecting the quality of your personal relationships or your productivity, you should probably consider talking to your doctor about treatment.

He/She can discuss a variety of treatment options with you so that you can get your anxiety disorder under control and enjoy a higher quality of life overall. You may start with a medication that alters your brain chemistry to reduce many of the uncomfortable social anxiety disorder symptoms. In addition to this, doctors often prescribe blocks of psychotherapy with a professional who works with you to modify your thought processes that lead to the worry, stress and fear that often accompany anxiety.

The above information does not substitute for medical advice given by a health professional.

No matter what he tried, nothing worked for John Mercer’s panic attacks. The Easy Calm method lays out a step-by-step set up to stop panic attacks permanently. John Mercer had to created the Easy Calm method for himself when no traditional treatment helped.

John Mercer’s Easy Calm method costs . The Easy Calm method includes a variety of free bonus items and tools in the purchase price. Free MP3 downloads are a useful free bonus.

Article by George Smith

The mind is a very complicated part of the body which we could never understand. It is very powerful that we sometimes lose control over it. Especially when we experience panic attacks, we feel very weak and out of control. The mind is able to dictate how we react to our fears that it often harms us. If you have felt panic attacks in your life, it happens because the mind focuses on your previous attacks that enhance your anxiety levels which gets more intense by the second. As a result, you feel your strong heartbeat, sweating and even nausea.

Think about what really caused your panic attack? Even if you try to think of the cause, you will never actually land at the answer. It is only your subconscious mind that dictates that you are in danger. Any memory from your childhood that may have caused fear or trauma is remember by the subconscious. When these memories are tapped into, that is when you feel these sudden attacks.

Knowing these information, you need to find a way that represents a natural cure for panic anxiety attacks. In order to overcome your subconscious, you need a way to overcome your subconscious mind. It helps you identify the trigger that causes your attacks to happen which will keep you prepared under any situation.

Reverse psychology is an effective but a shocking way to deal with anxiety. You will have to dare your subconscious mind to put you to another panic attack. It keeps you alert and open mind about your fears. If you are able to understand and accept these, you will be able to learn how to deal with them easily. The moment that you are able to gain confidence that you can overcome anything, you will be freed from your anxiety.

Find a program that represents a natural cure for panic anxiety attacks. These will help you understand and develop a way of developing a way to treat anxiety. Though it takes a longer time to accomplish, you can be sure that you will be prepared for anything. It does not matter where you are because once you have conditioned your mind, you will be able to conquer your subconscious mind. It will not be too hard to deal with it anymore. You will see that life is much more enjoyable when you are not afraid of anything at all.

Article by Michael

As you should know by now, anxiety is a healthy and normal emotion that everyone experiences. It is the body’s natural reaction to a stimulus that pushes the decision to either “fight” or “flight” during a situation. However, when anxiety attacks are irrational, chronic, severe, and start affecting the overall health of a person, whether it be emotionally, psychologically, or physically, it turns into a problem that must be dealt with right away. Do not be confused though because there is a rather thick line between healthy and unhealthy anxiety attacks and you will be able to tell the difference. Unfortunately, this is often overlooked by doctors who tell you there is nothing to worry about and you are perfectly fine.

Anxiety is a general term which houses various different classifications under its name. There are six main types of anxiety disorder and they all have different and unique characteristics: generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobia, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

1. Generalized Anxiety Disorder

GAD is a chronic worry or fear over everyday tasks without even knowing why. People with GAD show symptoms such as fatigue, stomach upset, insomnia, sweating, and restlessness. If you have GAD you will often be worried that bad things will happen and have a feeling of anxiousness about day to day activities.

2. Panic Disorder

This is when you have unexpected and repeated panic attacks. You actually fear the panic attack itself and are afraid that another one will occur any moment without warning. Many people with panic disorder are likely to have agoraphobia; the fear of being in places where help or escape will be difficult to reach you. If you have agoraphobia, you may be afraid of being trapped in confined places such as an elevator, airplane, or overly crowded places.

3. Social Anxiety Disorder

This is the fear of being humiliated in public, or seen negatively by people. Being shy is what people often call this. It is okay to be shy; everyone is over certain things in their life. However, people with bad cases of social anxiety disorder may isolate themselves from people, public events and places, and will tend to be alone. The most common form of social anxiety is stage fright which everyone has.

4. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

More commonly referred to as OCD, this is a condition where a person has uncontrollable and undesired thoughts or behavior. People with OCD may have particular obsessions such as worries that they forgot to turn the light off, or wanting everything they do to be perfect. Some of the most common OCD symptoms are frequent hand washing, re-checking something numerous times, and hoarding useless junk in fear that something bad might happen if thrown away.

5. Phobias

A phobia is usually a senseless, foolish, and over exaggerated fear of simple things that usually present little or no danger at all. A person can have a phobia of anything there is, some of the most common ones being: dark, spiders, heights, swimming, snakes, and flying. People with phobias will most often try to avoid the things they are afraid of, but avoiding your fear instead of facing it only tends to worsen the phobia.

6. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

PTSD is a classification of anxiety that happens after a dramatic or life-threatening event takes place. People with PTSD can show symptoms such as avoiding situations or places that remind them about the event, isolation, flashbacks, nightmares, and frightening easily.

Article by Dave Lindsay

Have you ever faced a panic attack? If yes, you would definitely shudder at the very thought of it since it must have been a very scary and terrible experience.

The heart starts racing, pain is felt in the chest making you feel very certain that it is a heart attack when it is actually not, perspiration, numbness, tingling sensations in the body, dizziness and fatigue overcome you and you feel totally helpless. The first panic attack can really be a stunningly miserable experience. And the fact that it just strikes without any warning or provocation makes it worse.

Many researchers have tried to find out the reasons behind a panic attack but none have sufficient evidence to back it up completely. 3 reasons that seem vital for a person facing a panic attack are listed below.

Undue stress and anxiety: Many people are prone to take undue stress and anxiety. They get hassled when little things do not go according to plan. They believe in being perfectionists and always feel de-motivated when they do not attain that level of perfection.

Such people are short-tempered, worry over their personal health or the health of a close one, career performance, do not feel too comfortable in too crowded places as it suffocates them and are quite inflexible and their adaptability to different situations is weak.

Other than such people, there could be those who have come up in stressful surroundings with parents divorced, being lonely in their childhood days and having faced physical and mental abuse who can fall prey to panic attacks. These people who keep burning within continuously can end up facing a major panic attack when the anxiety level goes too high.

Fear: This is supposedly one of the main reasons of having frequent panic attacks. People who have faced a panic attack start dreading the situations in which they first had the attack. A phobia is developed that keeps feeding the mind with fear. If a person has been through a panic attack in a crowded place, he might start avoiding such places. He might even shudder at the thought of going to social gatherings as fears of having a panic attack there and thoughts of the social embarrassment it would result in grip him.

There are certain people who must have themselves not been through a panic attack but witnessed a close friend or relative having one. They too might develop a fear subconsciously of what if they too had a panic attack. Since it comes without any pre-warning or real provocation, they might start feeling scared to venture out alone. Too much fear of having a panic attack can itself trigger off a panic attack.

Medication: There are cases where the side-effects of strong medications or the withdrawal symptoms on stopping a medicine have caused panic attacks. Consuming strong anti-depressants or stopping their usage after a long time could trigger off a panic attack.

Hence, it is very important that when a medicine is prescribed to a person, the doctor should start off with a small dosage and gradually increase the dose over few days and similarly when a medicine has to be stopped, it should not be done so abruptly. The dosage is gradually lowered over few days or weeks before it is finally stopped.

There are other reasons too like genetics, family history, and sudden changes in life like getting divorced or losing a very close person and others that could cause panic attacks. But science has yet not been able to detect the exact reason and cause with proper and sufficient evidence to back it up.

In order to stay away from panic attacks, eat the right food, i.e. vegetables and fruits, exercise regularly, practice yoga and meditation daily as it will help you in remaining calm and stress-free in the most adverse situations.

Hopefully this article will help you in controlling your panic attacks, or even how to stop panic attacks all together.

Anxiety is a rising problem in modern society–almost eighteen percent of people suffer from some sort of disorder or another. There are many different types of disorders, so you must therefore know the difference between them and if you actually demonstrate any anxiety disorder symptom. A most common, broad feeling of uncontrollable, unwarranted anxiety over nothing or an anxious obsession over one specific thing may be an anxiety disorder symptom.

Not every person who experiences anxiety has a disorder. Anxiety is a normal part of life and can push you to solve your problems with greater care. It is only when anxiety goes away from being ‘normal’ and starts being a normal part of your life that lowers its quality that you need to start asking yourself if it is a symptom of something greater.

A common anxiety disorder symptom revolves around counting, cleanliness, and obsession. This could be a sign of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. People suffering from this often feel the need to do something a very certain way or a number of times and can feel extremely anxious at the mere thought that they will not be able to do it. It is very ritualistic and many people suffer through it to some extent, especially as children. It has the potential to be self-cured by realizing when there is a problem and forcing yourself to unhinge or avoid these rituals.

Panic disorders have certain ‘attacks’ that people can use to identify the disorder. Some people can often sense it coming due to confusion, shaking, dizziness, or nausea. The attacks can come quickly but last for any length of time. They are often debilitating. They can be attacks over nothing or over one specific thing. These are often caused by stress in one’s life. Sometimes a few panic attacks from an outside source can lead a victim to getting panic attacks over the fear of getting panic attacks. For some sufferers it is handy to have medication always available so the victim knows if an attack comes, it can be controlled.

Social anxiety disorder is easier to figure out because of one’s extreme aversion to any sort of interaction. It also has very noticeable symptoms, including being tongue-tied, getting red-faced, or sweating. This disorder, just as with many phobias, can lead people to avoid human interaction when that is what they most need to get desensitized to other people.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is one of the worst and involves one of the most complicated recovery steps. The worst part about these disorders are the flashbacks, taking a person back to the time of extreme hardship in his or her life. There is often violence or great fear associated with these traumas, including assault, rape, war, and abuse. The person can suffer any combination of or any one single anxiety disorder symptom.

Women tend to be the ones more affected, and these disorders tend to grow as people get older. Though children are not exempt and one must be very sensitive to clues a child is giving about a potential disorder, they are less likely to manifest a disorder–with the exception of separation anxiety, which nearly all children go through in an infant stage due to their sheer dependence on an adult. These disorders can often come in pairs or travel in packs, so to speak. It is therefore important that one fully understand the problem.

Treatment can be simple or complicated depending on the person and the problems in question. In some instances the most effective step is a combination of therapy and medication. It allows people to deal with the problem with a two-pronged assault. You must also learn the specific cause of your stress if possible, and try to reduce any outside forces that compound it. That may be easier said than done, but these things are often unhealthy relationships or unhappy jobs. Exercise can be an effective way to relieve stress and depressive states. Eating in a healthy manner, avoiding certain vices (like smoking or drinking), and getting ample sleep are other ways to help your anxiety improve.

Many people may experience them and not even know it… do you know the signs of a panic attack? Panic attacks tend to blindside people, people often describe them as coming out of nowhere without any warning. This fact alone makes them extremely scary and can cause him to turn your life upside down. People often confuse the signs of panic attack with things such as a heart attack or stroke.

Keep a lookout for these following signs of panic attack:

- Feeling dizzy, faint or weak- Abnormal heart beat- Numbness and tingling in feet hands and fingers- Chest pains- Difficulty in breathing- Breaking out in a sweat or the chills- Feeling a loss of control- Sense of terror and a feeling of impending death

Panic attacks tend to last for about ten minutes or so… sometimes longer if more severe. Once you experience a panic attack you are likely to keep having them. They can turn into a panic disorder if they occur enough.

Panic attacks are a lot different than the fear you may regularly experience… it is not the same as nervousness while giving a presentation or the quick heart beat and butterfly feelings you may get when a little nervous. Panic attacks hit you like a ton of bricks!

Once you start exhibiting signs of a panic attack your symptoms tend to stuck around. Millions of people around the world are affected by the nagging symptoms. Fortunately, panic disorder is somewhat easy to treat and it presents no real harm to a person.

So how do you know if you are actually experiencing panic attacks?

There is a relatively big difference between normal anxiety and panic attacks. Anxiety is simply the body’s natural response to perceived danger. Anxiety can be healthy and can help a person stay alert and focused in certain situations. It’s when our anxiety spirals out of control that you exhibit signs of a panic attack.

Panic attacks are more than just nervous feelings. When a person has a panic attack they tend to exhibit physical symptoms. People typically mistake these symptoms for medical illnesses… and they often waste time and money on unneeded doctor’s visits before they are diagnosed.

Since panic attacks manifest as a group of conditions rather than a concrete symptom many people can have panic attacks… and no one person’s symptoms are the same as another’s. One individual may suffer from intense panic the presents itself without any warning and another may just panic at the thought of something or may even struggle with fear of driving or may have uncontrollable intrusive thoughts.

I used to struggle with anxious thoughts and various Anxiety Heart Attack symptoms…all the time. Until I decided to download this Free Report.

Panic attacks are terrifying. Millions of people suffer from this anxiety disorder without knowing they are already experiencing the first signs of an attack. A panic disorder is a condition in which a person experiencing an attack feels a surge of overwhelming fear. The feeling of intense fear can catapult the emotions of out of control, helplessness and despair, with which Panic Attacks are mostly grounded from.

Anxiety is our body’s way of coping with pressure and stress. However, excessive worry, stress and paranoia will lead to an anxiety disorder, or commonly referred to as panic attacks. This is characterized by racing heartbeat, sweating, shaking, chest pains, choking sensations, and a sense of dread and panic.

It is important to understand that panic attacks happen suddenly, without warning and with no clear reasons. Most people who have experienced a panic attack develop a fear of further attacks. With this kind of fear, the fear to socialize or venture into a new environment where a panic attack is most likely to happen will develop.

These panic attacks are usually not dangerous. But they are quite terrifying for both the person experiencing it and witnessing it. This is largely due to the sense of being out of control and confusion. As these attacks come suddenly and can go on from a minute to hours, the idea of having a panic attack anytime certainly makes one feel crazy paranoid. Finding oneself in this kind of situation leaves one in a limbo, largely grappling for ways to understand the situation and looking for a way to overcome the disorder.

Understanding how panic attacks happen is the first step in overcoming our anxiety disorder. Recent studies have found out that major life transitions and stress heavy situations are driving factors for panic disorder. This is coupled with our everyday pressures, such as peer, social and self-imposed pressure. Big changes in our lives like moving cities, changing jobs, separation and divorce, recent loss of a loved one, financial loss or hallmark milestones are key factors in developing anxiety.

Anxiety disorder only happens when one cannot cope with the changes and feels lost for a real long time. When depression sets in, and is left uncared for, an anxiety disorder develops when one starts to fear of being out of control of his life.

Did you know that our children are among the most susceptible candidates to develop panic attacks? Our kids can understand and feel our problems too, thus it is a misconception that only adults can have access to world’s reality. Understanding that the real world will throw us multiple problems all at once will help us know the different ways in which we can cope with the pressures.

Since communication skills are not fully harnessed yet, our kids will have trouble conveying how they really feel. Helping them express their feelings and talking to them about real life decisions and transitions will help them come out of their nutshell and open up their emotions and opinion.

This same approach applies to adults to cope with change. A good talk with a good friend or therapist will surely help you sort out some major life issues. Merely confronting locked up issues and emotions will help reduce the chances of experiencing another attack.

Panic disorder is not some kind of ordinary personal issue that can be resolved in a matter of weekend heart to heart, but a sincere and serious conversation about life issues and fears will help curb the frequency of the attacks. Learning proper breathing and relaxation will also help you overcome panic attacks, lessen its impact and manage your fears.

Should your attacks get more serious and more frequent, it is advisable to seek professional help. Your therapist will help you sort your problems and other issues and may prescribe you with medications that can help you cope and sleep better. And you are well on your way to recovery.

When we talk about panic attack, we seem to talk about gray clouds and empty pockets. This is how we feel about it. It is nothing but problems. If you have not experienced it yet, then good for you, stay that way. A friend might perhaps relate to you how bad it is when you have panic attack. If you have, then you can vouch for whatever gloomy description they give about it.

Psychology books and literature describes panic attack as a sudden “period of intense fear and discomfort”. The word “fear”, alone by itself, already signifies something not good, what more if you add the word “intense” to it. The symptoms (and the real thing that happens during an attack) would constitute palpitations where you could swear that your heart can do 60 mph in less than 3 seconds, you will also experience severe sweating and trembling, and of course a lot more to add to it.

This is a brief truth about panic attack. However, is you happen to ask about the truth of panic attacks causes, then you will see that this area is yet to be discovered better. In truth, there is really no one major or real cause of panic attack. Experts have derived a handful of causes for panic attacks. To tackle them we get first – the environment.

What they have instead are things like the environment. Environment is one of the things that could cause panic attack in people. Imagine for example the level of alcoholism of addiction to tobacco and other things, and these has reached you, for sure, the possibility of acquiring panic attacks is greater.

Another cause we could blame for panic attacks would be a person’s biological make up. If there is something wrong with the brain, then it is more likely to develop panic attack. The reason here is that when there is something wrong with the brain, then its function will be curtailed and bit and it won’t operate well. This is why people get psychotic disorders and sometimes, these disorders can lead to panic attacks.

The last factor we will pin point in this writing is genetics. Many believe that panic attack can be caused by inheriting certain attributes from family members, parents or grandparents which could trigger some disorder. Studies has shown that among the sufferers of panic attack, most of them have in their lineage a history of one or two relative to have suffered from disorders as well.

The environment, one’s biological make up, and their “fathers” are the main contributors for panic attack. Maybe in the future, when there will be a breakthrough with the disorder, we could pin point the major panic attacks cause.

As of now, we only have these. But then, these are good enough information. We can live with it or we can live without it but for sure, when you have panic attack, unless treated, we cannot say we live. It is so hard to live with panic attack clinging.

Article by Jared Ingram

Administering effective panic treatments for patients suffering from panic attacks usually involves the health worker or the family member knowing what causes this. They’ll be able to stop the attacks either by removing the irritant or by administering the right treatment for the exact cause of the attack.

So what triggers it?

Panic attacks are usually triggered by a stressful situation or undesired powerful emotion like fear and anger. The person experiencing an attack may experience any, some, or all of the following symptoms (a minimum of 4 symptoms is needed to classify the attack as an anxiety attack):

Chest painChoking feelingConfusionDizzinessFear of dyingHeart palpitationHot or cold flashesHyperventilationNauseaNumbness or tingling sensationsTrembling or shakingSweating

Onset of symptoms is sudden, and can be as short as 15 seconds or as long as an hour, with symptoms reaching their peak within 10 minutes. While most symptoms of it are resolved within 30 minutes from onset, a few rare can last for hours, sometimes forming cyclic episodes in between attacks.

Other causes of a panic attack include:

Side-effects of certain medicationsCertain drugs or chemicals like caffeine, alcohol, amphetaminePsychological disorders like OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)Medical conditions such as hypoglycemia, hyperthyroidism, mitral valve prolapse, pheochromocytoma, Wilson’s disease, Labyrinthitis, Long QT syndrome, and Wolff-Parkinson-White syndromePhobias inducing extreme fear

Studies have also shown that heredity plays a strong role in someone developing panic attacks. A person’s disposition or frame of mind is also often cited as another cause of panic attacks. Negative thinking, mistaken beliefs, withheld emotions, passiveness – all of these things can contribute one way or another for a person to develop panic attacks.

Once the cause of the panic attack has been pinpointed, panic treatments which work best in treating panic attacks caused by those specific events can be utilized.

Medication and Therapy

Cognitive behavior therapy has been proven to be the best and longest-lasting treatment for panic attacks. Therapy usually starts out with the patient being educated on the exact nature of panic attack; what it is, what causes it, why it happens, etc. In most instances, knowing what panic attack is and knowing that the sufferer is not alone in his or her suffering help a lot of patients overcome their fear of attacks and push them to become more positive about their condition. By simply allowing sufferers to replace negative thoughts with reinforced and repeatedly practiced positive thoughts, counselors can give panic attacks sufferers increased confidence in themselves, helping patients to deal with successive attacks more successfully each time.

For medication, SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) have been proven to be the most effective in treating panic attacks. Among the most prescribed drugs include: Celexa, Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft. Benzodiazepines on the other hand are prescribed for immediate or short term relief of anxiety attacks. Examples of benzodiazepines include: Alprazolam, Klonopin, Lorazepam, and Xanax.

Whether it be medication, psychotherapy, or all of the above-mentioned panic treatments, what is important for sufferers to know is that panic attack is a behavioral condition that can be treated best by changing their conditioned responses to certain events through therapy and counseling
