Hello! What do I do when the panic attack I have is making me feel like my throat is going to close?

I know that I am having a panic attack, but i’m not sure what I can do when my throat feels like its closing, to make it stop.. it makes me want to just freak out but I try not to.. its just really hard in this case!! please help you have any suggestions!!!!

Get a paper bag (lunch size) . Fold over the top edge once or twice. Put the paper bag over
both your mouth and your nose. Try to breath in through your nose, out through mouth. It usually works for me in about 5 minutes. That doesn’t sound like a long time, but when you are having a panic attack it is. Hang in there.

This really does work.

I used to have them too, so I know the feeling. Fortunately, no more! But in any case you have to tell yourself some basic things you know to be true. Number one.. your throat can’t actually close from a panic attack, that is an illusion. Secondly, know that the illusion is caused by a combo of hyperventilation and muscle tension. One of the best ways to get panic out of your life is to demystify the symptoms and realize them for what they are, and that they can only make you feel bad and can’t actually kill you.

I’mm literally having one right now and tried to see if this was an actual symptom.
I just read an answer and I’m starting to calm down lol

Don’t worry I am the same way and so far have no found anything but dizziness from the throat/chest tightness. No matter how many times I’ve told myself I can’t convince that it’s not actually closing. Talking really helps though. I don’t know why but if you can, find someone to talk to and tell them you are in need of a convorsation. It’s the only thing I’ve found that helps.
