HELP!! Does this sound like a symptom of a panic attack or something worse?
In the past 6 months I’ve had five incidents where I have been completely unable to breathe. It’s happened two times in my sleep and four times while I’m wide awake. While each time it happens it only lasts about 30 seconds, it feels like an eternity while it’s occurring. I want to be sure and emphasis that when this happens I am unable to breathe whatsoever. I can’t even make a single noise. It’s like my throat is 100% sealed and there’s nothing I can do about it. I end up falling to the ground and then my breathing starts up normal again. A few days ago I was just standing talking a friend and in mid sentence my breathe was totally gone. He thought I was chocking and it was really terrifying for both of us. I wasn’t stressed about anything and felt completely relaxed so I’m not thinking this was a panic attack. I wasn’t on any medication nor had I eaten anything in over 5 hours so it wasn’t an allergic reaction. I had no other symptoms of a panic attack, and it wasn’t gradual. My throat and lungs just seemed to shutdown for about 30 terrifying seconds. What scares me is that what if it’s longer next time? I don’t know what’s causing it so I can’t assume everything will be fine each time it happens. I don’t think it’s asthma because it’s too sudden, and what’s scary is that even if I used an inhaler I can’t inhale so there would be no point. Any ideas??
I guess it’s possible, but I have panic attacks, and they last for several minutes.I do have a hard time breathing when I have one, but I can breath.Do you have chest pains, cold sweats, nausea, and dizziness? If you are around people, do you have to get away right then? I guess everyone is different, but that’s what happens to me.I’ve never had a panic attack that lasted only 30 seconds, and my breathing completely shut down.I wish I could help you more. Good luck.
