help me get through this!!!! please?
well a week or 2 ago my friend told me some really bad news and at first she didnt want to tell me because she said that it would hurt me and finally she did tell me and i tried not to act like i was as torn up about it as i really am because then shell blame herself! well i found out that once in a while she will….cut herself…to help forget what the real bad thing is. i know that her fav band is hawthorne heights and i have one of their CDs. well i looked up the lyrics to one song because it sounded kind of weird and i swear it was all about cutting and it sounded almost like the situation that we went through. well i dont know what happened to me but i just started shaking and my stomach started to feel really bad like i was going to throw up and i started breathing faster. what happened just now? did i have a panic attack?? i just dont get it! please help me
no no no i never said the lyrics made her cut. the lyrics just made me think about what happened between us. well ok the real thing that shes cutting ABOUT is that she found out theres a huge chance she might have cancer. shes doing all these things to try to forget about it.
maybe panic attack, but maybe just an extreme psychological/emotional reaction to a bad situation

It sounds stress related, probably anxiety.

Yes, there’s a good chance that you had a slight anxiety attack, but that would be normal under the circumstances, you are scared and worried for your friend. It definitely would be ok to express your concerns to your friend about her method of dealing without being to preachy, let her know that you are always available to her if she ever wants to talk without being judged.

First you need to just relax a bit.And maybe I can help you. My sister use to have a cutting problem. What you need to do is tell your friend to go talk to someone. And to also stop listening to music that might have a bad influence on her. Just b/c you hear something from a band you like doesnt mean you should act on it. I have no idea what your friend went threw but I know that lots of people including my self have depression or have gone threw it. And hurting yourself isnt going to make things better in anyway. You might be having a panic attack or a anxiety attack. I normally just try and chill out and get some water and keep telling myself this too shall pass and I pray about it. It works for me.

hon, i really don’t think song lyrics are going to cause a person to cut, UNLESS they are already predisposed to harming themselves or have emotional problems BEFORE they listen to the lyrics.
your friend has issues. she had them before she started listenting to this music.
im a 50 year old woman, not a teenager.
yes, perhaps lyrics can give people ideas, but i don’t think they make a person cut themselves, or jump from buildings or commit murder. no more than television can, in fact.
self harm is about unresolved issues. you can do a yahoo search for SELF INJURY or SELF HARM SELF HELP for information on the subject.
what happend to you was probably a sickend reaction to what you heard, because your friend has problems.
take care.

Nervous reaction… you just weren’t mentally ready for that to happen. It’s normal. Most common in OCD (Obssessive Compulsive Disorder)victims. You’ll get over it, just don’t think about it.. And reassure your friend that she doesnt need to cut herself.
"Not confirmed about the Most Common In OCD victims".
It’s not so medical.. Don’t worry, you’ll get over it.
