How can I overcome panic attacks while smoking pot?

21/f here.
I’ve been smoking pot for around 2 years. Pretty much everyday I guess, I love it. I love how it makes me feel and makes everything fun. But around a month ago I started getting these horrifying panic attacks almost every time I smoke. It feels like I’m going to have a heart attack, I feel tingling in my hands and i get very shaky. They are very scary and I’m pretty much fighting the attack the whole time I’m high. I just want to know how to make this stop. I know it’s all in my head. I just can’t seem to reassure myself that everything is going to be ok. Any advice would be great.

P.S. Please don’t tell me to stop smoking weed. If that’s all your going to say then just don’t say it at all.
P.P.S. And I’ve been smoking the same weed long before the attacks, so its not that.
BTW:
Don’t think I’m addicted. I stopped for a while the first time it happened. I don’t know if I’m considered a typical "stoner" I work all day, it’s just something I like to do at the end of the day to unwind.

Sorry, gonna say it. Stop smoking it and save your lungs.

Sometimes the different types of marijuana can lead to different effects on people. I would suggest switching dealers or growing your own. I’m sure this is all for "medicinal purposes." At any rate, just stay calm and if it stops making you high like it used to, switch to some other form of getting high once and see if it’s the high itself or the marijuana.

Definitely switch dealers first or grow your own. Home grown is the safest.

please, please stop smoking weed. I am not saying this because you said not to, like some immature people would do, but because i am 13 and when i was about 8 or 9 my brother pretty much stopped being a part of the family because of weed. He used to be my favourite sibling and my very best friend, and now, on the very rare occasion that i do see him, i feel uncomfortable around him because it is like he is not even my brother anymore. He threw his life away. It is awful, and I still cry about it almost every night.

Yeah….. You can tell me that but anyway. I know so listen ok?

These attacks are going to make your health bad no matter how much you enjoy smoking pot. They will get worse. You have to stop now. It will be hard but you need to quit.

Take it from someone who knows.

The same happened to me earlier this year. I had been smoking for 4 years but randomly I started turning into a paranoid freak each time I got stoned. I quit smoking for 2 months and when I started up again I was fine for a few weeks then the panic attacks came back again. I guess it must just have something to do with the way our brains are wired. I’ve heard of it happening to other people also. Not much you can do but take a break and hope it goes away.

i had that same problem. The answer is the hard chemicals that have been collecting in your brain. I advise you to drink lots of coffee and excersize by walking about 2 miles every 3 days. Get plenty of protein and eat right, your body needs proteins to function and process out the waste collected in your body. Another thing is, THC will not cause this reaction, it is the chemicals in the burning of the plant material as they all contain impurities (that over time lead to harsh reactions).

I advise you strongly to visit a doctor immediately (not mentioning weed usage as this usually tends to them assigning you antidepressents rather than anxiety meds, say its interfering with your life and job…THEN get prescibed to an anxiety medication probably called alprazalom and possibly an antidepressent. Clean out your system, smoke smaller dosages of pot at first while on the new meds and try to get into more comfortable situations that’ll help you relax to get your body used to what you used to self-medicate with again. These clear the mind as you become nervous in stupid situations (basically brings you back down to your normal self). Ive started smoking weed again (but much higher quality stuff as the lower stuff contains less of the medicinal thc molecules and more of the impurities), have been taking my dosage of anti anxiety meds and have been completely fixed of my panic disorder in practically all situations. the key is to clear your mind as you detoxify your body that way your panic disorder doesn’t cause much of a indent in your life (mentally), then your recovery time will be quicker. the longer you wait to detox and get on anxiety meds, the longer it will take to get you back to your normal self

It sounds like you are not being completely open with yourself about something related to smoking pot. Does pot really make everything fun or is that you making yourself believe you aren’t having fun without pot?

If you are no longer able to relax, maybe start making a list of all the things that have changed over the past two years. Don’t forget also to include that starting to smoke pot is also a major life change. Keep everything in perspective. Make sure that what it is you’re afraid of can be put in as much detail as you can figure. I would start a "pot journal" where you take notes about what you were feeling with pot.

Taking drugs is not easy. We cannot be our own doctors. We are not capable of monitoring ourselves when we are the guinea pigs. I’m not saying not to have fun with pot, but merely give yourself a fighting chance, and be conscientious with yourself and mindful of what you are feeling especially when you are getting shaky and scared.

If you are afraid that you are addicted, you have already lost a bit of power to the abuse of this drug. It is when you are unable to regain a purposeful hold on your life that your addiction has made you into the victim of the abuse.

Be careful out there. To thine own self be true.
