I’ve had a few and I hate it. Worst feeling ever.
I have no idea how to calm myself down. Anyone know?

First of all, adrenaline shoots through our veins in response to fight or flight. In other words, when we are struggling to overcome a situation or are trying to get away from something, adrenaline will enter into our bloodstreams. This adrenaline is there to help us fight better and run away faster. In certain situations it is good that we are able to fight better or run faster, but when adrenaline secretion is already giving us feelings of unreality, fighting this or trying to run away only secrets more adrenaline and makes us feel more unreal.
Eventually, panic attacks will end. When they do, they often leave us totally exhausted. It is at this time we start to put our guards up against any signs of another one coming. This is a form a fighting or running away, and so it increases the chance another panic attack will come soon.
Trying to fight off panic is not only futile it creates more anxiety, which if handled incorrectly will result in more panic attacks. So, doing the opposite, not fighting and giving up, is a better way to defeat anxiety and panic.
Though it seems like a strange approach for those of us who have fought for everything we have, the way to victory over anxiety and panic is to give up fighting. When we surrender to anxiety we no longer add adrenaline flow to our already adrenaline rich bloodstreams.
If you find yourself suffering from stress, anxiety, or depression, you are not alone. Many times people will try to ignore the problem, which usually makes it worse. Did you know that there are natural ways to deal with panic attacks and anxiety disorder?

Knowing you are having a panic attack is half the solution. First, breathe deeply. Some people can close their eyes, breathe deeply and concentrate on a particular subject or item. I can’t close my eyes, because I get dizzy as hell, but the breathing exercise, and concentrating on a certain subject does help. (I love music, and I concentrate on my favorite song, running the lyrics through my mind). Give it a try, and good luck. Panic attacks are horrible and very scary.

You can try the breathing exercises, but that crap doesn’t work for me. Maybe it will work for you…I usually try to focus on something else, mentally, not my breathing….like i’ll start talking alot, or i’ll go sit in a bathroom until it is over. You could get medication from the doctor, but i dont know if you have them bad enough for that.

The main thing to overcoming this is to understand that all of the panic feelings are caused by adrenalin, and that adrenalin cannot actually hurt you even though you may feel like you are going to die during a panic attack. Adrenaline is released into the blood stream any time a person is scared or worried. Once adrenalin is released, you cannot not stop its effects – the effects will last until the adrenalin is all taken up by nerve receptors or the liver. It takes several minutes for adrenalin to wear off once it is released.

One of the things that really adds to panic attacks is the fact that people have no control over their body during a panic attack, which causes even more anxiety and release of even more adrenalin. You need to stop this escalating cycle of anxiety and adrenalin. It helps immensely to simply understand the role of adrenalin and consciously remind yourself that you have to wait a few minutes for things to return to normal, and not worry that you are going to die or pass out in the meantime.

The instructions at the link provide a way to learn this technique.

Hi,

There are many ways you can follow to try to avoid panic attacks happening and ultimately control them. Being a previous panic attack sufferer and a severe sufferer I know how you feel.

You need to work out why you are having panic attacks? Why do they come on???

If you can work this out you can then look to avoid them. The most important thing though is too look at trying to get treatment. If panic attacks are left untreated they can only get worse and end up out of control completely.

There is a link in my source pointing to an article you may find helpful! There are some tips you can follow to help you cope with panic attacks!

There are 2 programs out there that are famous for treating Panic Attacks and Anxiety successfully.
They are: Panic Away and The Linden Method.

You may wonder, "Which one is better?" Don’t worry, you’re not the only one with that question.

The Panic Away program is more appropriate for people who can cope with their Panic Attacks or Anxiety well.
Linden Method is more for those who aren’t really good in coping their Panic Attacks or Anxiety well.

Check out the reference for the full comparison.
