I struggle with panic attacks. How do I deal with them?
I had first panic attack when I turned 30 and have had them on subsequent occasions when my body can not deal with an overload of stress. I had one last night when I found out my hours would be cut at the job. I also have had a difficult time dealing with the loss of my former job and everything associated with it.
Has anyone ever had panic attacks?
I am sorry about your loss of the previous job and your hours being cut back on the current one. I wish I could help but I don’t know too much about panic attacks.
Seek professional counseling or medical help and if you are a religious person pray that God will see you through this difficult time. In fact it would do all of us good to pray.

you’d be suprised at how common this is…don’t let people make you feel you’re the only one going thru it!
))
we’re living in a scary time, people losing jobs & homes…perfectly capable people can’t make it with everyday stuff.
start looking for a job, get busy that will help a lot. maybe consider moving into a different area or out of state, a new environment may help you have a different outlook.
until then find time to hit the gym and make a list of the things you want to accomplish. you’ll get unemployment until you get to the next step.
and fill your life with positive things…get a pet to care for & join a support group. those things will give your life perspective.

I know how horrible panic attacks are and I am so sorry for what you have gone through. There is help and you don’t have to suffer with these attacks or the anxiety that causes them. There are many safe anti-anxiety medications that will stop them and the anxiety and stress that causes them. Please see psychiatrist, get a correct diagnosis and treatment with the right medication for you. With these medications you are not even aware that you are taking them the only difference you will feel is the lack of stress. I have been taking one for a couple of years with great success. You don’t have to live with this horrible disruption of your life.

Your anxieties and panic attacks have the best of you and you don’t know where to turn for help. At some point you feel totally helpless as you struggle each day. What do you do as a Christian to manage your panic attacks?
The first step a person should do is to start talking and praying to God. A person can go to church or to a quiet place during the day to tell God that they are having a problem. They should tell God how they feel and ask God for some of his help. A person could also review the Bible and read some articles on trusting in God and then apply these concepts in their life. Each and every day, a person should make it up a habit to talk to God and ask for his help.
When feeling anxious, stop what you are doing and try to do something that will relax you. A person should take a deep breath and try to find something to do for a few minutes to get their mind off of the problem. A person could get some fresh air, listen to some music, or do an activity that will give them a fresh perspective on things.
Remember that our fearful thoughts are exaggerated and can make the problem worse. A good way to manage your worry is to challenge your negative thinking with positive statements and realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts that make your fearful or anxious, challenge those thoughts by asking yourself questions that will maintain objectivity and common sense.
When overwhelmed with worry, a person may encounter a lot of scary thoughts coming at them all at once. Instead of getting upset, remember that these thoughts are exaggerated and are not based on reality. From my interviews with various professionals, I’ve learned that usually it is the fear behind the thoughts that gets us worked up. Ignore the fear behind these thoughts, and your worry should decrease.
Remember that all the worrying in the world will not change anything. I realized that most of what we worry about never comes true. Instead of worrying about something that probably won’t happen, concentrate on what you are able to do. Everything else you can leave in the hands of God.
As a Layman, I realize it is not easy to deal with all of our fears. When your fears and anxieties have the best of you, try to calm down and then get the facts of the situation. The key is to take it slow. All you can do is to do your best each day, hope for the best, and when something does happen, take it in stride. Take things one step at a time, and things will work out.
God Bless You

Have you considered learning some form of meditation? Though I have never had panic attacks, meditation has been very helpful for me.

I used to get them frequently when I was in my late teens. It was one of the worst feelings. It almost feels like you’re dying, there’s no other way to describe it. Caffeine is one culprit that helps bring them on when the conditions are just right. You’re going to have to learn how to control your stress and stop letting it control you. Maybe you should seriously consider getting on a mild anti anxiety medication, this will help you enormously. I have issues with anxiety but don’t have the attacks anymore.

ive suffered from panic attacks for years. my doctor prescribed ativan and that usually helps but unfortunately makes me too drowsy so i only use it for the really bad ones.
the best trick i’ve found is wikipedia. i know it sounds stupid but go to wikipedia and keep clicking random article. it works for me. give it a shot. slow deep breaths and random knowledge works wonders.
