I get panic attacks and i am terrified of fainting from them. What can i do practically do to prevent this?
I am talking about what can i do beforehand to prevent this occuring (to aid my body)? so i know that all the important things have been taken care of and that it will only be panic symptoms and not low blood pressure or anything like that.
I usually get BP by the way of 112/75 or thereabouts. Is this a range for normal BP?
Thanks
Dave, UK
I am not intending anyone to force anyone to answer my questions. I am merely asking for advice incase some others have panic attacks also and have advice on what is best to do in those kind of scenarios
Thats all
Must consult a Neurologist and do not accept answers you receive from the general public… It is a serious health hazard to be healed by a trained, specialized doctor… please don’t force others to make your unique body a practice hall for the mankind

I have suffered panic attacks at various times in my life. I went to a series of councelling as a group some years ago and thankfully have not suffered from this since.
One thing you could to is to keep a paper bag handy with you. It may sound a bit daft, but when a panic attack starts, if you breath into the bag, this will calm the breathing. Take it easy.

I had a panic attack once while my dad who has them all the time was at my house. Thank god he was there I didn’t know what it was. It really scared me. My dad just kept telling me everything is OK trying to calm me down. Once it was all over he talked to me and told me that when they happen you just need to realize that it isn’t anything life threatening and your going to be OK. Once you start to feel it coming on just think to yourself if it gets any worse that it will be over soon and your not gonna die from a panic attack. I tried it on the next one I had which didn’t stop it from happening but it did make it alot better.

You cant really do anything about the attack its hard i know but you have to ride through it. i say this to you and trying to do it is hard i have the same problem and im also scared from fainting. you have to do a mad thing wich may sound crazy but when you have an attack run on the spot and just keep thinking to yourself its happened before and nothing happened. your now thinking im mad, but ive had this now for 2 years and this is crazy for me to say but nothing has happened to me. i even got my husband to rush me to hospital as i thought i aws dying to be told there was nothing wrong and my heart scan, bp and oxygen levels were normal. its really hard i know. Have you tried looking on the National Phobics Society web page you might find some usefull hints and tips. I really do sympathise with you. good luck.x

Hello
I have the same problem. The one thing I was told to do was when you can feel a panic coming on stop whatever it is you are doing and clench hard ever muscle in your body face, neck, arms, hands, tummy, legs and feet. HOLD IT for 10 seconds and then release. It has worked sometimes for me. I generally try not to notice my breathing as this will make me worse!! I also am petrified of Fainting i have never fainted before and it scares the living shit out of me. THe only thing i do is if i am in a situation and i come over all funny and feel like i may pass out is bend down to do something!! If you are with people and are feeling embarrased bend down to look in your bag or readjust the strap on your shoe. This allows the blood to rush to your brain and eases the feeling of passing out, i hope this helps. xx

All you need to know is that you are completely healthy and safe. You dint need help, or a doctor or an ambulance!
As soon as you accept this, the problem will go away.
Try yoga, relaxing more and practise being calm.

HI I believe its 120/80, but i may be mistaken.
If you are suffering from these tyoes of attacks, I recommend you seek a specialist rather than an advice column, but if I were to suggest something, it would be to try and relax. Even though this sounds hard, try to focus on controlling your breathing. Try taking deeper breaths, as it could help to release certain chemicals that calm you down, (endorphines I think they are called)
Breathing deeply, focusing on tinhaling holding it a sec then exhale till all the breath is released.
Its a yogic meditative solution that some find useful.
Good Luck
