I had a panic attack on Tuesday, but I think it’s something more serious?

So on Tuesday my heart felt very fluttering, tingly and tight. I couldn’t catch my breath properly so I went to the hospital. The doctor listened to my heart and lungs and ruled it as a panic attack. I feel like I don’t have a lot of stress in my life, and i have never had anything close to a panic attack before. The doctor prescribed my Ativan.

I’m still having slight shortness of breath – a feeling like I can’t get enough air. The glands in my neck feel swollen, I feel dehydrated, and my heart feels "full" .. if that makes any sense. I also feel sweaty and hot (no fever)

I am a 23 year old non-smoker, with no real medical problems.

Does anyone have any insight into what may be going on?

My husband currently has a bad cold/ flu, so I could be getting that.

Hey everyone,

I have Panic disorder for more than 12 years already and my condition has been improving a lot! My medication started from 20mg per day till just 10mg on alternate days (or just 5mg per day) – I even thought of quitting medication. I also realized that there are many others who have Panic Attacks out there and I decided to reach out and help them.

So I have started a blog to give free panic attack tips and techniques that have helped me for all these years:

I do hope it will help you all =)

Seng

your doctor was right- it was a panic attack. one of my friends was the happiest person on the planet, got these symptoms and has been having multiple panic attacks since b/c she didn’t rest herself. rest yourself! my friend has missed the entire second trimester of high school b/c she didn’t take care of herself. its definetely not the flu…relax/ rest and don’t stress out

Not sure, You could be pretty happy and still be stressed in some way.

Also, watch the medication. Doctors give it way too easily and people end up getting pretty messed up by using medication.

If you are having panic attacks, just learn to ride them out and the situation will change. Learn to be cool in all situations and to use positive approaches to work things out.

Sounds like what my mum suffered with last year, but she was determined not to just rely on drugs from the doctor. She and my dad researched loads of anxiety self help books and courses but she had the most success with the Linden Method which provided some unique techniques and help for panic attacks. You can read loads about the various symptoms for different expressions of panic and anxiety here http://www.lindenmethod.com/pages/anxietyadvice. Hope it helps you too.
