I have an anxiety disorder, does any one know how to help me stand my panic attacks?(without medication)?
I really Dont want to take medication, you know..I have been trying breathing exercises, and it work for the first few attacks, but now its not as great.
I dont swallow pills..
I find that I have my attack’s at the most inopportune times but it help’s me to find one thing to focus on when it hits me, some people that don’t know that I have these attack’s think I’m just being rude but then they realize that I’m having a problem and help me through it. Just try to make sure that you have someone you trust with you when your out and about this will help sometimes.
I hope this has help you in some little way

Why don’t you want to take medication? Xanax, for instance, works wonders. You will not notice a thing regarding your ability to think clearly, you will not become "a zombie" and you will not have any untoward reaction to it. Counselling may help, but rarely is that enough. Breathing exercises can help, but as you’ve learned, often they don’t. A counsellor experinced in helping with this sort of problem can offer you a variety of strategies other than medication – but don’t refuse medication – there’s nothing wrong with it. What’s wrong is allowing yourself to suffer when there are proven remedies available. Xanax must be prescribed by a doctor, by the way, so that’s where you start getting help. Anxiety disorders can ruin your life, but only if you let ‘em!

I have the same problem. I am taking some medication. Being aware of a problem is part of the solution. Go to the library and look for books on the subject. If you have been to a doctor ask if they would have literature on the subject. It might help to just talk about the problem with someone. Your partents a doctor or even a close friend. You are not alone. Many people have this same problem. Medication will help you. Sincerely, Larndt45!

They say that the best way to re-program yourself is to change your thinking while you’re in the heat of the moment (in this case, a panic attack). This is really hard to do though. My mom has this problem, and she tries to seclude herself as much as possible, but it doesn’t exactly help her get over it; I think it does the opposite, actually. Hope this helps.

My husband also has this. The way he overcame it was to expose himself to what brings on the panic a little bit at a time. Just take the first step and the next will follow. Ease yourself into it and eventually your panic attacks will lessen and probably go away most of the time so you can deal with it. Good luck.
