I had a big paper due and I was having my sister proofread it, I worked very hard on it and was a little nervous about having her read it because I think very highly of her and I don’t want her to think I’m stupid…well my brother in the room wouldn’t leave even though it is my room. I asked him kindly and then just started getting very upset that he wouldn’t respect my wishes…I didn’t want him in the room because I don’t want to deal with his criticism (having already felt self-conscious) what I think also put me on edge was that 1.) paper accounts for a large sum of my grade 2.) Due tomorrow, 3.) I was on a lot of caffeine… I thought I wouldn’t be able to function with him in there… it just got me so angry, (he was previously harassing me about something else, and I generally avoid him anyway) well today I just couldn’t take it. I started crying, and I felt so upset like I couldn’t control my breathing, I was in extreme discomfort (not like physical) something I just cant expl
I felt like I was in a dreamlike state, and I felt the most horrible sensation. It looked like I was exaggerating but my face felt hot, I felt dizzy, it felt like blood was draining (tingling) around my face, breathing normally was just impossible, crying my eyes out…the last time I have felt like this was around the same time last year. I want to know if you think I experienced attack.

I think it was an panic or anxiety attack. Try inhale deeply , retain breath ans exhale, repeat four or five times, and you’ll be back in control.
Avoid your brother as much as you can.

Could be. You might want to cut back on your caffeine intake. That might help you avoid these attacks in the future. Also, when you feel stressed, try slowing your breathing so you’re getting nice, full, deep breaths. Good luck!

Sounds like a panic attack.

Chill out on the caffeine, that’s what did it.

And if you DO chill out on the caffeine, and you still get panic/anxiety attacks… my husband has an anxiety problem. He takes effexor regularly and lorazapam when he feels an attack coming on. Works for him. And his sister. And his mom. Just a suggestion. But try other avenues – relaxation exercises and cutting caffeine – first.

It almost sounds like you had waaay too much caffeine! That’s how it can make you feel especially if you’re tired and not eating right. Generally a panic attack makes you feel like you want to escape your own body or you’ll die! Like you want to run away screaming even though you know you can’t escape yourself. Sometimes you feel like you can’t breathe or like you’re hyperventilating. When you have this kind of deadline looming be sure to eat right, get plenty of sleep and leave yourself enough time to accomplish it.

Yes you had a panic attack. When you get into a tense situation try to take slow, deep breaths. If possible excuse yourself to a room where you can be alone, like, the bathroom. Sit down, tell yourself to relax, and take the slow, deep breaths. Good luck to you! If you continue to have this problem, talk to your parents about seeing a therapist.

This sounds like it well may have been an anxiety attack, but there is probably no need to run to the doctor for medication yet. You, my friend, need to indulge in some self-care.

School can get pretty stressful, so you need to take good care of yourself. This isn’t hard – you need to make sure you sleep enough, eat properly, get some exercise, make time to socialise, and relax! try some deep-breathing or meditation techniques. Oh, and cut out the stimulants – caffeine!!

panic or anxiety attacks feel terrible, but if you think that it probably happened due to extreme stress, then don’t worry too much about it. Some people get anxiety or panic for what seems like no (or not much) reason – you got anxiety with a definate trigger – thats not pathological. Just shift your focus back to positive things you can do to release your stress. And take care of you!
