I would like some advice on how to conquer or get better medication results from panic attack disorder?
I was diagnosed w/panic attack disorder about 3mos ago. I get them about everyday, from mins to hours. And of course after the attack your body, well mine, feels like jello. My dr has put me on the following, 200MG of sertraline (everyday) and at night to prevent night attacks to take 1.5MG of clonazepam. What I’m more worried about at this point, is that it’s some what better than before, but I still get them about 4-5 times a week usually in the afternoon. And all day bascially after a night of drinking. But I’ve heard taking clonazepam for more than a month is not good for you. I’ve asked my dr and she said I should be fine. Do you think I should just wean myself off of it to prevent future complications. All I want is to control my attacks, and get my life back. HELP!!!
I get really bad panic attacks. Ever since I started taking Xanax, I’m a whole new person!! It’s amazing. Just knowing that i have it in my purse makes me feel better!

See a therapist…..maybe they can help you figure out what is the root cause of your panic attacks…it is after all a psychological problem…..what worked for me was when I felt one coming on was to talk myself through it…I KNOW I am not dying….this is just a panic attack….I AM ok, and this will pass…..I had them for almost a yr….natural supplements worked for me….I would not suggest going off any medication without medical supervision as that can have side effects also. Seek a holistic practioner or Osteopath if you want to try natural and wean off prescription meds……Good Luck

Samm, you are right to be concerned about tranquilizers. They can be hell to break free of.
Have you been to a cardiologist? Don’t dismiss heart palpitations as "panic". Something could be going on with your heart.
Remember, when you have a panic attack, you will NOT die from it. Knowing this and telling someone what’s going on takes away some of the power of the attack. Good Luck!

Hello Samm D,
Your condition is unfortunate – But I have good news:
Regardless of what you have been led to believe, panic attack disorders can be cured…I know you already know this but what is the "good news" part?
Panic attack disorders can be cured using easy-to-follow steps without any medication!
Joe Barry has a revolutionary new technique which he calls:
The One Move™ technique. So my advice?
I think you ought to seriously consider ‘weaning,’ as you say, yourself off clonazepam and turn to the experts for help without medication.
