I’m 40 weeks pregnant, and keep having panic attacks through the night, can any one tell me why?

Oh that’s not fun for you I bet. If you had a pre-existing anxiety disorder prior to becoming pregnant that could be the cause, or if not most likely it could be fear or labour? You are 40 weeks though so hang in there – not long now. Try some relaxation techniques or speak to your health care provider for ways to help you until the big day. Take care.

This is very understandable, especially if this is your first baby. You are very anxious and may be nervous about going into labor. When I was first prego I read a lot about labor and delivery and what to expect. It will all be over soon and you will forget all about your panic attacks when you hold you bundle of joy!

I am sorry I do not know the reason for this… but I did meet a lady who went through a similar thing, she kept waking up not breathing, or holding her breath anyway.
I would put it down to hormones, they create all sorts of problems, plus the impending birth of your child causes a little tension too.
You haven’t got long to go so I wouldnt be concerned.

Hormones and happy brain chemicals are things that easily aren’t manufactured in the amounts they always should be – they’re always changing and stress, lack of sleep, diet, pregnancy, etc… has a lot to do with it!
You’re just having a reaction to not having enough of something – probably because you have all those good pregnancy hormones. Maybe in you, as those increased, something else decreased. It’s not your fault – it just happened and there’s an imbalance. I am sure your nerves and being uncomfortable and the anxiety of what labor will be like are all playing a factor too.
Take one day at a time. When you go into labor, take it one contraction at a time. Try to relax (it’s easier said than done – but it helps) – it makes labor shorter and less painful. Have an epidural if it helps you. Surround yourself with everyone who loves you and supports you. That always makes me feel better!
You’ll get through this! It will probably be a lot better as soon as the baby is born. If it doesn’t change – tell your doctor! They have really good medicine which can treat it and you won’t even know you’re taking anything. I had to have klonopin for a couple years – but I never felt any different. I just didn’t have panic attacks anymore.
Check with your dr and if you breastfeed, ask lots of questions! Best Wishes and Blessings!!!

I had panic attacks two weeks before I had my son. I felt my heart racing and nightmares. I was really nervous about giving birth (was afraid of not knowing what to do)and REALLY scared about the pain of giving birth vaginally.
I think especially, if it’s your first baby to have fears and sometimes hormones can of make it worse. And of course, you remember every single birthing horror story that people told you.Don’t worry, delivery pain isn’t that bad and the baby will be fine. It’s going to pass after you have the sweet little baby in your arm. It did for me. What helps is listening to soothing music, watching a movie , basically finding a relaxing way of distracting yourself from thinking of what is scaring you. Not all labors last 36 hours, my didn’t it was more like 7hrs and oddly enough it goes fast.Remember you’ll be fine and your baby too and think this time by next month ,you’ll have your baby and a routine.
God bless:)
