i was diagnosed with borderline personality years ago, the mental health system up to now has FAILED me and im still struggling to get the help and care i need at the age of 31 ..

i have ptsd symptoms , all the symptoms and want to be tested and diagnosed for it, as well as the borderline , i also suspect bipolar , as i have some bipolar symptoms – racing thoughts everyday, cant concentrate or hold a thought…..forget constantly……thoughts scattered everywhere….struggle to organize.

i have badanxiety, obsessive thoughts and worries , hyper vigillant outside…on edge…get panic attacks and palpitations…….struggle with a lot of rage and anger still……..years ago used to have involuntary outbursts of rage that used to ” take over ” me outside……just before the outbursts , id remember my thoughts racing badly, feel extremely anxious, hyper vigillant……feel paranoid that people were threatening me……used to struggle with a hostile angry posture….threatening…..on guard , then id just ‘ lose it ‘ – and start attacking people , lashing out……..making a public scene.

that was many years ago now, i controlled the outburst all by myself, without any psychiatric help…….and since then been searching for proper care and help…………….and via the internet, been trying to research my symptoms and whats wrong with me..

i put it down so far to my diagnosis years ago of BPD, – which i accept, but also know i have PTSD, and put alot of the symptoms because of that, im also wondering if bipolar plays a part to.

i have symptoms that bpd doesnt cover, throughout my life ive suffered great psychological abuse , a few physical attacks including a head injury in a street attack, when i lost control of rage in 1997 , my skull was never cracked, but the skin torn open on top, ive also suffered constantly being victimized in life.

alot of people wouldnt of been able to take the stuff what i took and still with stand.

recentley i stumbled on a question here which made me think, could any of my symptoms be caused by physical illness ? – ie : thyroid problems ?
if they were , what would i do about it ? how would i get tested ?, and what would i ask to be tested for ?

here was the question :

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgMD2nL9y3_.5MQVlQJ_cj3ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090322142249AAA3WB7

it was only short and there was only one answer.

does anyone know anything physical that can cause all those psychiatric symptoms ?

im not looking for a deep, emotional answer to this question just knowledge.

I don’t know of anything physical that can cause all your psychiatric problems. But I was once told by my Dr. that I was depressed because of anxiety attacks and mental confusion. I took Effexor for a couple of years and didn’t like the way the pills made me feel. I went 3 or 4 times to a shrink and she suggested that I try taking a vitamin called Omega-3 For Healthy Brain. I did that, I also take a vitamin for stress, and within 2 months I was no longer on the Effexor. I feel much better now, more in control of my mind. I would recommend that you seek the help of a psychiatrist though. It helps alot. Oh and another thing I learned was that prolonged use of pot causes depression. If you are a regular user, quit for at least 1 yr. and see how you feel. It sounds like you have been through alot in life already and deserve some peace. I hope you find it. Good luck.

One of Carl Jung’s collected writings is called something like "the psychogenesis of mental illness".

In that book (which is extraordinarily boring) he mentions that many times it is obvious that a psychological illness has a physical root.

Every group of scientists thinks they have "the best" information. But really then, and now, we only know a tiny bit about physical vs psychological roots of psych symptoms.

One thing we do know –
Almost every psych symptom can be effectively managed with either a biological (physical) approach or a psychological approach.

That means that there is (potentially) a pill for every symptom, as well as an inner "healing" for every psychological symptom.

You are looking for an overt physical disease that has psychological effects on you. Considering your history of significant trauma of all sorts, I’d focus strongly on the psych side, and look for physical stuff only when a non-psychological physical symtom arises.

There are lots of physical ailments that can lead to mental symptoms. The pre-mentioned chemical imbalance was spot on as the biggest cause. Hyperthiroidism will lead to pretty violent mood swings, and I’ve seen a case where there were symptoms of BPD. Other possible physical ailments could be:

Lesions in the brain
Brain cell death via CHI (closed head injury)
Neuroma (cancer of the brain)
Stroke
Korsacoff’s -spelling probably wrong- (caused by chronic alcoholism)
Chemical changes due to environmental factors
Poor diet
Drug Abuse leading to chemical imbalance (not likely because this is considered intoxication which is a temporary state)

I would look into getting a full range of neuro imaging if you are worried -which from your symptoms, so am I. A neurologist will be able to see if there is a specific physical cause for your problems.

Many of your symptoms are most likely psychological, which means that you will need regular therapy to help control some of the symptoms.

Best of luck

yes, there is help for you….. and twenty years ago, they were and are still arguing about whether or not the borderline personsality disorder even exists… so you should be careful aabout what you accept as fact toward yourself..
Here are the sites no one else will give you that work and in my opinion are the real healing sites…..
Your hormones have a great deal to do with everything in your body, thyroid, sex, adrenal…. and can cause many problems if out of balance… the adrenal imbalances are attributed to the anger, etc…
Regular docs take blood tests that show some things, but will not normally test for all hormones you need tested and balanced, (and the ‘normal’ range excludes all but the most severe cases) so i recommend naturopathic docs who saliva test and know how to rebalance the hormones (ask each one),
I am giving you the healing sites, you have to do the work… take care… the emo site is fantastic and works on all kinds of things
take care… be well pass it forward…

My husband has had 2 brain injuries. one to the front of the head and the other to the back of the head. His doctor things these injuries may be the root of him devoloping schizophrenia. But he is doing great now and takes his medication every day. He now has very few problems. Finding the right medication may take some time, but it really does work. You just have to realize that this is a life long disease.

I assume you are asking if head trauma can cause psychological issues such as anxiety. The answer would be "well not really". Head trauma can cause psychological issues but not inclusive of simply anxiety. A head trauma that severe would not manifest itself in JUST anxiety but would show at least one or even a host of other physical indicators such as involuntary trembling.
