Hello all, I’m a 24 year old female. Who has been suffering from Extreme Anxiety and some panic attacks for the past month or so. I have gone to the doctor to make sure this what I really have I am sort of hypercongeract who always expects the worse. I got blood work done and everything came back normal my dr. says my heart sounds good and everything, he thinks I am suffering from Anxiety disorder and panic attacks. So, he put me on Celexa and Atavan. I started this medication a week ago. I have been experiencing the last couple of times what I’m guessing is panic attacks almost every time I go into a mall. Where I’m standing in one spot for a few minutes and then all of a sudden I feel dizzy, my hearts pounding, I’m sweating, It feels like I’m in a dream. Where it look like the lights are dimmer, and I feel weak. I am so freaked out when this happens I don’t know if I’m going to faint, or if I’m having a heart or stroke. I am still experiencing the anxiety and panic attacks.

Yes what you are experiencing is panic attacks.

The very first panic attack often seems to come completely unexpectedly and random. You can be doing something that you do every day like driving to work, shopping, etc and suddenly you are struck by a barrage of frightening and uncomfortable symptoms (dizziness, heart palpitations, throat tightening, shortness of breath, depersonalization, etc) and you are convinced that something terrible is going to happen to you there and then.

This is panic attack!

What often happens next is that you will begin to associate panic attack with the activity or place that you were in at the time and avoid them. This is where the problems begin as each time you are forced into the situation that caused the attack, you automatically assume that it will happen again and avoid it.

You need to understand that the problem here is your irrational fear, NOT the situation, NOT your "mysterious illness".

Your perfectly fine (your doctor’s report already confirm this) and so you MUST believe that panic attacks are not going to kill you and the symptoms are just temporary and will, in time recede and go away.

Panic attack CANNOT cause heart failure or a heart attack.
Panic attack CANNOT cause you to stop breathing.
Panic attack CANNOT cause you to faint.
Panic attack CANNOT cause you to "go crazy."
Panic attack CANNOT cause you to lose control of yourself.

This is the TRUTH. It may not feel like it at that point in time, but its the truth. Believe in it.

You need to re-educate yourself that it is your thoughts and assumptions that are to blame for these attacks.

Accept that you are a panic attack sufferer and do everything you can to overcome it, don’t run or hide from it…and certainly don’t fear it. This is the KEY to stopping it forever.

yes try to stay away from places that "trigger" these feelings if you can until the medication begins to work. also you show think about seeing a therapist that can help you control your thoughts so you don’t have to depend on the medication forever.

GET OFF THE ATIVAN!!!! I promise you 100% you will become an addicted junkie on that stuff. Ive seen too many people completely abuse that drug.

Maybe only go to the malls on days where there arent as many people? Maybe go with friends who distract you? Maybe its a finances thing that gets you nervous…set a certain amount of money to spend ahead of time so you wont feel anxious about spending alot of money.

Do you get nervous in large crowds, like concerts, festivals, etc?

Just stop and think about how you are ok, nothing is going to hurt you, you are going to be fine.

I do believe that most people in this country make a bigger deal than it needs to be about "anxiety"….I mean who doesnt have those. My main holdup is being restricted. if my arms, legs, chest is held down i freak out. I went on a rollar coaster ride where it strapped your chest down real tight and then pulled your legs tight and i thought i was gonna scream…but i kept taking deep breaths and kept telling myself "you fine, your fine, your breathing, your ok, nothing bad is going to happen, it will be over soon"…and i was ok.

im sorry luv for all t suffering. i feel that luv.

this meds need some getting used to…. like two to a months time.. if longer than this u should see the doc. they are probably causing this accelerated anxiety and panic disorder. do u get electric chills throw ur head maybe after making some rapid eye contact or response to something….

meds mit not be all that good but ud be one of the fortunate fellows if ur system accepts them. good luck…luv… u r not alone
