A week ago (last saturday) I went to the ER because I was cramping. It was my entire stomach. It was so bad that I was doubled over the counter at work almost in tears. I work as a server so I was walking around a lot and carrying a tray that was about 10 or less pounds. I was drinking water the entire time I was there and I had been drinking water all day as well.

The doctors at the ER concluded that it was dehydration..even though I had told them that I had consumed at least 8 glasses of water that day. One even suggested that work was to strenous for me. Which I may agree with.

Since then I have had the week off because I had an ultra sound on monday and I have to see the doctor on Friday. I have been trying take it easy lately. Despite that when I walk for more then five minutes I get nasueous, dizzy, have shortness of breath, and my stomach starts to hurt as if I have been walking to long. (Almost like cramps.) Yesterday I had tighteness in my chest, kind of like a panic attack was coming on.

Then this morning I woke up to go to the bathroom and when I went to get up I was so dizzy I almost fell. So I went back to bed. When the doorbell rang earlier I went to go get it, it was a package so I bent down to pick it up and when I came back up I saw spots/sparkles in the air.

Is this normal? I am 19weeks 2days. This is my first child, but something tells me this is not normal.

This sounds like normal ligament pains. They do get bad sometimes, to the point that you KNOW something is wrong. With my first pregnancy there was a point that I KNEW I was miscarrying because the pain was SO bad. I never did. You will continue to have these kind of pains up until you are due more than likely.

Also at 19weeks, it is not really too early to be having braxton hicks. When you are getting this crampiness, lay down and put your feet up, or change positions if you are already laying down. If this does not help then you need to go to the hospital as it could be a sign of preterm labor. But to me, it sounds like ligament pains.

As far as getting dizzy and seeing spots. When you go from sitting or laying down to standing up, your blood pressure drops and it will cause you to be dizzy and see the spots. Try to stand up slowly.

That sounds like pre enclampsia.. but I don’t know how early that can set in..

I would definitely get a second opinion from a doctor though.

have you had gestational diabetes before? Of course, let your doc know about your symptoms, but the dizziness etc sounds like a bit of diabetes.

Dizziness can occur anytime you rise from a sitting or prone position. This is called postural hypotension. It’s caused by a sudden shifting of blood away from the brain when blood pressure drops rapidly. The cure is simple: always get up very gradually.

You might feel dizzy because your blood sugar is low.

Dizziness can strike, too, in an overheated store, office, or buss, especially if you are overdressed

Tell your practitioner about any dizziness or faintness you experience when you see them next. Report actual faintingpromptlyy. Frequent fainting occasionally a sign of severe anemia or other illness

Are you eating enough. When I was pregnant with my son, I always felt dizzy so I had to eat pretty much all day long (small amounts of course) in order to keep my energy up. Check with your doctor to rule out anything more serious.

From what I’ve been reading, the getting up and getting dizzy/nauseous is often related to blood pressure changes. Practice laying/sleeping on your side rather than on your back (if you do).

While you may drink a lot of water, if you eat a lot of salty foods like pizza, etc., your sodium/potassium balance could be severely off, hence, the dehydration and blood pressure issue. You may want to check with your doctor if they recommend eating foods high in potassium just in case like bananas, potatoes (baked and eat the skin too.)

Before I got pregnant, I was fine. Now, I’m having to get insulin shots for gestational diabetes, and having to eat low carb. It is really surprising how much being pregnant requires of your body. I am also overweight but now I keep losing and I am doing my darndest to try to eat more and more. I can’t seem to gain weight or even keep it on. My nutritionist is having me make and drink high fat low carb, ice cream shakes with extra protein powder added. Bizarre!!

Yes, pregnancy is extremely demanding even when you’re barely showing!!
