Nineteen and panic attacks? Advice anyone?
I am a nineteen year old female who gets panic attacks where i feel like i am having a heart attack but i am not. I have had ekgs done and they are perfectly normal. I often have a hard time calming down, and I am afraid of alcohol, caffeine and nicotene and certain times. My attacks always happen at night. I dont abuse drugs and when i drank i did it in moderation, I quit drinking altogether and I dont smoke or take in caffeine at night time. ANyone have advice or ideas on how to help me calm down??
Boy do I have advice for you. Too much to type here, honestly. I have been dealing with panic attacks since I was 8 years old. I know that sometimes you dread even getting up in the morning because you know you will have an attack in that day/night. I am so sorry you have to deal with this. Please get online and talk with me any time you need to. I can answer any questions you have as I have researched, read books, spoken with Docs, and witnessed my two closest family members go through the same thing. I will also add that I was put on Ativan about one year ago. I take it as needed, a 1mg easy to swallow and very quickly dissolving pill. When I feel one coming on, I take a half mil and poof begone. However, do not take one every time I have one, only if I feel I can’t calm it down on my own. I have had intense training on meditation to solve my problems before they fully start. It took me years to finally learn how to calm myself down, but that’s because I was so young to begin with. Should someone show you certain techniques, you should catch on rather quickly because you are much older than I was when it all started. I wish you the best of luck. My yahoo ID is brandt.murphy@yahoo.com Please feel free to email me further with any questions. I’m happy to help.

Just think about someone you really care about and think about the situation being over with, the situation that’s scaring you. I get panic attacks too, and it’s no fun either but coping with them is better than nothing. :/
