Nocturnal panic attacks?
I wake up right before I fall asleep and I jump up and gasp for breath.. my heart is pounding and i feel dizzy and like i am going to pass out. i really feel like my heart is going to stop and that im going to die. then once i calm down i go back to sleep and it happens again. it probably happens about 4 times before I can actually fall asleep. But this doesnt happen to me every night just sometimes. I try to talk to my dad about it and he gets all pissed off at me and thinks it bcuz i dont exercise or do anything all day. i dont have a job because i am a full time student and im out on christmas break so i just sit at home right now and watch tv or whatever. it is stupid of him to act like that bcuz i dont think that has anything to do with it and he just doesnt listen and gets mad cuz i dont have a job and believes that this happens to me bcuz my body is not healthy therefore my mind isnt… idk. what is wrong with me??
This occasionally happens to me, usually if I have something on my mind or if I have had alcohol before bed. My theory is that we become aware of the changes that occur in our bodies when we are asleep/as we fall asleep. For instance the change in breathing rate, the lowering of body temperature, the change in blood pressure, the change in pulse. Because we are already more sensitive than usual (our minds not fully resting due to thoughts/alcohol) we take notice of this even though we are half asleep and then panic in case there is something going wrong in our bodies. This makes us wake with a start, and in my case I take a gulp of air in my panic.
It could also be due to environmental disturbance (eg noise, draught) occurring at the point at which you are falling asleep.
Some people say it is due to our soul leaving the body while we are asleep, and that the sudden jump is when it returns.
These are just some ideas. See your doctor if you are worried that you have a health problem.

Are you eating enough? I’m just asking this because I remember a time I wasn’t eating much enough and I would always feel like this.
Try throwing something on top of yourself before you go to sleep. MMMMM Nice hot campbells chicken noodle soup hmmm?
