I have been suffering from Sinus infection from last 1 month. Doctor prescribed me amoxcilin and then z-pack which I finished on Tuesday.

Yesterday night when I was studying suddenly my heart started palpitating and I had really bad shortness of breath. I just couldn’t breath.
My Dad took me to ER.
I had this for 4 hours and all of a sudden it got better while I was waiting there.

At one time I was just gonna pass out.
I also had my physical last week and everything came out fine including blood test.

Doctor in ER examined me and said I had either panic attack or indigestion.
I never had this experience before and now I am scared of being alone.

I think it was reaction of Azythromicin ???

Any suggestions ?

Since the symptoms of a panic attack and medication allergies are similar it is a good idea that you went to the ER. If the doctor confirmed that you had a panic attack and NOT a reaction he is probably right. An allergic reaction usually lasts several hours, if not days, and includes hives, swelling, difficulty breathing, dizzines, and fainting. Check the information that was included with your z pack Rx and find out what the symptoms of overdose or allergic reaction are.

I’m not a doctor, but I think 4 hours is very long for a panic attack to last.

Probably a panic attack but it certainly could have been
the Azythromicin.

It does sound like a panic attack. Especially because you’re scared to be alone now. It doesn’t really seem like a reaction to Azythromycin to me. I hope your family doctor can give you some help. My mom had panic attacks, and she almost had to quit her job, but she took quite awhile to accept the diagnosis of panic attack. Take care.

It sounds to me more like a panic attack than a reaction to the Azthromicin, the Azythromicin would have caused a reaction much different in almost all cases. Not to mention it is late to have that kind of reaction.

That doesn’t sound like any reaction to amoxicillin or zithromycin that I ever heard of. Certainly not an actual allergic reaction.

Palpitations and a feeling of shortness of breath that has no other effects certainly sounds like anxiety, or a panic attack. People resist this diagnosis because it makes them sound like wimps or something, but the symptoms can be real, the body pumping out too many chemicals. (Studying – were you using energy drinks?)

Don’t stress about it, just let it be in the past. It is something you can safely put to the back of your mind.

Although panic attacks generally last several minutes they can last for several hours. They’re not fatal. The initial one often comes out of the blue when nothing out of the ordinary is going on. If you’d been having an adverse reaction to either the amoxicillin or Azithromycin, it would not have stopped suddenly. This may never happen again but it if should, consider being screened for an anixety disorder…at least to rule it out.

Click on this link below and look at the left side of the page. You’ll see a list of the 5 major anixety disorders. Click on Panic Disorder. On this page, at the end of the first paragraph, click on More about Panic Disorder. It’s written in blue and is underlined. When this takes you to the next page, I think you’ll see yourself.
