panic attack success stories without meds!?
Im sick of being a lab rat. I hate meds and their side effects. Ive tryed ever ssri and none of them work! The onl y one that worked was paxil and it made me fat, numb, and i lost my memory! Has anyone ever overcome Panic disorder without meds? How? Supplements? Anything?
You say you’ve tried every SSRI, but what about taking benzodiazepines: Xanax, Klonopin, or Ativan? Do you take these too? They’re a completely different class of meds and are needed for people with PD.
Benzos saved my life. I’m sorry I don’t have a non-med answer.

Mine were created by a certain situation. My roommates scared me to the point where I had panic attacks daily and constantly shook any time they were in the room. After I moved away from them, it took about two weeks for me to stop having my panic attacks. If yours aren’t created by something like mine were, then I don’t really know what you can do. I didn’t take any meds, but now I wish I had.

I used to have panic attacks all the time. I was steady calling the ambulance thinking I was having an heart attack. I just learned how to relax and not stress over things I couldn’t control. I also use prayer alot. God can work some serious miracles. I don’t even have them much anymore. I have never taken medication. I am not into mind altering medications unless it is necessary. Eating healthy and exercising also helps a lot. I also have tried doing yoga. Yoga is very calming. There are several natural things you can do instead of taking the meds if you don’t want to. I hope this helps. You can find some yoga dvd’s for around $13.00. That is pretty reasonable considering the cost of health club memberships. Anyway I hope this helps.

If you don’t know of a circumstance that’s causing the panic, meaning the panic seems to come from nowhere & for no reason, it’s probably from reproductive hormonal decline. The decline in these hormones occurs in both sexes & can start as early as age 5 and occur with everyone-no exceptions (even though females still have a period). When hormone levels decline, which takes place over years, it can produce symptoms in most people, panic is one of them (sometimes, you can get only one symptom). Also, when hormone levels decline, it can produce just one symptom like "panic" rather than several symptoms at the same time.
The treatment for hormonal caused panic is hormone treatment, either from a physcial medical doctor (not a psychiatrist) and/or herbal supplements. I take black cohosh & dong quai (herbal supplements) which ridded everything (including other symptoms) for good, with no side-effects (I’m female, but I don’t know off-hand which remedies would help men who are reading this with testosterone decline). You can also look up on the web for something like "herbal remedies for panic attacks" & it’ll produce good results for you.
For reference, this website lists panic in 2 listings, #10 & #11. When these 2 symptoms combine into something intense, you get a panic attack. Please do not be surpised when you see these symptoms under the category of menopause. Menopause & the stage before it can occur in people as early as age 5 (though they’ll still get their period, their hormones are in decline & most will get symptoms). This is why hormone treatments will work. It’s estrogen declining that’s the cause of this.

Male menopause (for men who read this, because men get identitcal symptoms to that of women)

As simple and wrong as it may sound, to truly get over panic attacks, you MUST expose yourself to whatever it is that you’re afraid of. I was housebound (still am, technically) for 3 years since I was 12 due to a very, very severe mixture of emetophobia and agoraphobia, along with just an anxiety/panic disorder. I don’t think there was one day that went by that didn’t leave me crumpled, light headed and suicidal from my exhaustion and fury at myself.
Meds do NOT work. I tried taking them and they only made me sicker. After taking them, yes.. I could vomit and leave the house without severely panicking, but the only thing they will do is numb you. You will be dependant on them like a drug addict (which is what you truly do become, no fault of your own) and will never be truly happy if you don’t overcome it yourself. You need to find the root of your problem and take it heads on.
For me, my friends helped me, along with a constant pressure of needing to face what I was afraid of. I had to leave the house, and was constantly nauseated anyways, so thusly I became calloused in a way that didn’t numb me, but left me stronger. The same will happen to you if you just hold on with the idea that things will change and get better for you.
It’s different for everyone, though. Usually, someone to talk to will help the best. Someone you can trust and someone who is not afraid of the same thing you are. Inspiration, too.
Just try and keep yourself happy and strengthen your will power. If you want to, feel free to messege me. Good luck, I hope you overcome it.

Wow! I thought I was alone with the memory loss from Paxil! I gave up the med’s they made it worse. Seems like the doc’s are making a profit on how much of that crap they push out the door. What helped me was breathing exercises and finding the right therapist. It took me a while. Find someone who does more than listen. I found someone who has given me a path to take and so much advise. I learned more from him in two sessions than all the others combined. Good luck!

I tried meditation and it worked wonders for me, it stopped the attacks. Focus, calming, etc. helped when I could feel I was going to have one–I had signs like nervousness, stomach upset, etc. so when I felt that, I started my meditation and it helped it from me having an attack.
