panic attacks?
okay, so i am pretty sure that i have anxiety or something, or at least have had panic attacks. i get really strong fears, my heart starts pounding, its hard to breath, and sometimes my hands get this weird tingly feeling. Does this mean i have anxiety or something? Also, how do i prevent these attacks or make myself feel better because it is the worst feeling in the world.
1) when you feel an attack coming on, DON’T get alone because you will think harder on whatever is causing your anxiety.
2) once you start feeling the attack, put one hand on your stomache while focusing on your breathing… count. the work on relaxing all your muscles
3) there are some really god meds out there that work wonders! and anxiety is very common, nothing to be embarrased by.
but if you leave it without getting help, you can develope serious conditions like heart problems and chronic headaches.
If you do not like the idea of going to the dr. for this try taking a yoga class or join a gym… get an outlet for your stress… also counseling is good.

I also have panic attacks as well as anxiety attacks. Go see your doctor and tell him/her what has been going on. There are medicines as well as relaxation techniques that can help.

You do seem to suffer from panic attacks. Perhaps have your doctor prescribe some Valium, or have a drink or two, as long as you’re not driving. Slow, deep breathing and calm meditating might be the best cure there is.

I’ve experienced this once or twice. Do you know how the people on TV get worried and use those paper bags to breath in? Maybe you should try that. I’m not sure what the proper name for it is.

Does sound like a panic attack. If you do not have medication (i.e. Xanax), here’s what a nurse in the ER told me to do when I had one: take deep, slow breaths, walk around, keep busy, think positive thoughts.
If they keep up, you may want to ask your doctor for Xanax. I take it once a day, very low dose (actually half of the lowest dose possible). I also take it if I feel a panic/anxiety attack coming on, or if I know I am going into a stressful situation. It really helps.
It is habit forming, tho, so talk to your doctor about this fully.
Good luck!

see a dr. if u can’t handle it. You can eventually start to grow out of it, but it’s not worth it, if it’s really serious.

If you are unable to identify what causes the panic attacks to begin you may need to see a Dr. who can prescribe some medication to help. I was able to identify the reason that I was having the attacks and when I eliminated the precipitator I no longer had them. It isn’t always that easy however. Good Luck.

You are describing a Panic Attack for sure. Please go to your family physician and talk to him/her about this problem.
Stress is a major factor that causes this to happen.
Although you aren’t in immediate danger of a heart attack, fear can escalate so much that it "could" become a danger to your health.

you should see a doctor…It sounds like panic attacks.
I have these from my tour in Iraq, and I have to take medication for it. I take Celexa and Xanax and they don’t even make them completely go away.
Try finding out what is causing the anxiety and try to get rid of it.
That is where my problem lay’s mine anxiety is from memory, it doesn’t go away. I have Chronic PTSD.
I would suggest you see a doctor about the problem.
Good luck

It does sound like panic attacks.
They are very scary and awful. Sometimes its helpful when you’re having them to try to control your breathing…inhaling and exhaling slowly and focusing on it.
In order to prevent the attacks though, you’d have to figure out why you’re having them in the first place and work on that. Being very stressed or dealing with a lot of other things could be the reason…or it could be something entirely different. Perhaps consider talking to a counselor or someone? Thats what I did when I was in your situation (having panic attacks etc) and it helped very much.

If you wouldn’t mind taking medication, you can see a psychiatrist and he will prescribe medication. If you don’t want to opt for medication then this is what you can do when you feel a panic attack coming on: tell yourself that what you are feeling is ridiculous, tell yourself that that you are not in any danger, tell yourself that you will not let these panic attacks rule your life. While you are telling yourself this be sure to breath in and out slowly.
The feeling of panic occurs because of a chemical in the brain that is released. Panic should only occur when you are facing danger. Panic helps you to decide whether you should fight what ever danger you are in or whether you should leave. This is called the fight or flight response. Panic attacks are caused by that same chemical in the brain but that chemical is being released when you are not in any danger. So you see, there may not be any situation that is causing you to have panic attacks. It is a chemical that is being released in the brain. That is why medication may be extremely helpful in keeping that chemical under control.

I’ve suffered from panic attacks. I purchased a book on panic attacks and it mentioned the above suggestions. I am also currently taking Paxil for my panic/anxiety disordor only because I did not want to go through anymore panic attacks.

I started having panic attacks two years ago. Your heart races and beats abnormally, and without realizing it you begin to hyper-ventilate. Hyperventilating is what causing the tinlging in your hands, face, etc and you can get to the point where you can actually faint. I have been on Paxil for the last 2 years and it has helped tremendously. You need to go see a doctor asap to you can get this situation under control. I became so afraid of when the next panic attack would occur that it actually consumed my life and I lived in constant fear. They had gotten so bad that I actually thought I was dying. Stress, a previous traumatic event, can all be factors to this cause. I tried the self help techniques and eventually it got so bad that this didn’t even help.I went to emergency rooms several times before I actually made an appointment with my MD. Xanax helps control panic attacks, but it is highly addictive. My advice would be to get started on an SSRI (Paxil, Zoloft, etc) and visteril. It is an antihistime which increases the flow of bronchial passages thus resulting in a more relaxed feel and it also works rapidly. Good Luck!!!

It sounds like you are having a very difficult time, but you can get better. Also, you are not alone. Many people suffer from these type problems. You would probably benefit from seeing a psychologist who is experienced in dealing with anxiety disorders. What you describe sounds like symptoms of a panic attack, but a psychologist could help you better understand what is going on and what is causing your anxiety and could help you develop a program to overcome the problem. Medication may be helpful to you at least at first, but techniques employed by psychologists like cognitive behavioral therapy can help you to develop strategies for dealing with anxiety and perhaps longer term enable you to cope without medication. A couple of books that may be helpful to you are "Triumph Over Fear: A Book of Help and Hope for People with Anxiety, Panic Attacks and Phobias" by Jerilyn Ross and "Overcoming Panic, Anxiety, and Phobias" by Shirley Babior and Carol Goldman.
