Panic attacks and cures?
I first had a panic attack while driving and nearly wrecked a truck and trailer. I sometimes have attacks because I think of that day and have a panic attack about having a panic attack. Curiously interesting right. What are the medications used to cure this problem. I HATE having these attacks and want them to stop. For those who havn’t had them, they are the closest thing to death that anyone wants to enoundter. Thanks for the help.
Panic attacks run in my family and I can tell you that I feel your pain. The worst part is not knowing all you can know about them. If your not into meds, and need immediate relief. I know this sound so silly but take deep breaths and pretend its just waves from the ocean… most important know that it is a panic attack and it will pass. Your not crazy. I was on Paxil Cr for them and it seemed to help alot. If your gonna go for a relaxing fast fix, stay clear from the xanax! The are a quick fix but will really make it worse..I can promise you that. Valium is better. I would see your doc asap. I stayed in my house for seven months 10 years ago for fear of having another one which is called agoraphobia. Don’t let it go that far. Last don’t let Dr’s push you into something too strong. Remember they make bonuses on all the meds they can get down your throat. also check for sexual side affects on you meds many have them and it’s no fun. hope this helped some. kimbeecool

I’ve had them and they are terrifying. Medication is not the answer but maybe can help in the short term. See a doctor, but don’t just accept a prescription.
There are some good books on amazon.com that can help. It’s good to read that someone else has had the same experiences so you don’t feel like the only one. There are plenty of breathing techniques that can really help.
This book is supposed to be very good –

Good luck

A good medication to take for panic attacks is Zoloft. It’s a prescription drug so talk to your doctor. Therapy goes a long way, too, so don’t necessarily turn directly to medication.

I had the good fortune (???) of having a full-blown attack in front of my therapist, who had my doctor give me a prescription for 2 mg Xanax. I’ve found that having them on hand calms me when I’m in the freaking out about the possibility of having a panic attack. I use them when necessary and they take the edge off, but don’t make me slow. I only take one at a time one or two times a week.
Be careful because Xanax is addictive. But just having it there is I need it is the biggest help. I’m on antidepressants, but I still get panic attacks.

I also have panic attacks and know too well that they are the most terrifying thing in the world. I think that they are caused by underlying issues such as stress and dealing with such issues should put a stop to them. A natural alternative to perscription drugs is one called ‘Aconite’ it is a homeopathic remedy. It really works, there are no nasty side affects , non addictive and is comforting to take it with you every where you go.

I know EXACTLY what you’re going through, I’m living it as well.
I don’t know the "cure" as of yet, for them but I know what contributes to them: alcohol, caffeine, smoking and STRESS! Meditation might help, but if it’s hindering your daily activities, you should seek professional help from a psychiatrist. There are some medications that they could prescribe that might help, including Zoloft and Paxil.
Goodluck…
