I usually sit there and say to myself in my head, I’m OK, everything is ok, control your breathing and talk yourself down.

I USED TO GET PANIC ATTACKS MYSELF..BUT I USED TO SMOKE MARIJUANA, I FOUND OUT THAT, THAT WAS WAT WAS CAUSING IT..SO IF YOU DO ANY TYPE OF DRUG, STOP! AND ALSO STRESS CAUSES IT TOO. IF YOU FEEL YOURSELF ABOUT TO HAVE ONE, TAKE 5 DEEP, DEEP BREATHS..THAT HELPS ALOT TOO..

DO NOT TAKE ANY MEDICATION PLEASE..I THINK THAT JUST MAKES YOU DEPRESSED..

No one has ever died of a panic attack, even though you feel like you are going to lose it. Belly breathing helped me. I always carry a Xanax with me for a "just in case" I never have taken it, but for some reason it’s comforting knowing it’s there?

A good book it the feeling good handbook by Dr. david burns. This is not one of those morons on t.v. doctors
with stupid ideas. Dr. burns has considerable soundly based
principles. Panic attracts are often fears
that are not based on reality. But how one perceives
reality. An emotional response to something that is just
not based on fact. If all else fails, take a sedative.

My daughter has panic attacks. She use to have them everyday for about a year. They put her on different kinds of medicines but all they did was make her feel"weird".I took her off all the medicine and she started getting better. When she has them ,all I can do is talk to her and stay calm.I’m usually the only one that seems to get her to calm down. She hasn’t had one in about 6 months now.I think she has learned to control them. She always said she could tell when it was coming and now she has learned to calm herself.I hope you get better.Panic attacks are very scary.Good luck!!

I have had panic attacks for about 4 years now. As time has gone on I have learned how to control them a lot better. What I do is tell myself I am going to be alright and focus on my breathing. I also take medication called Celexa. However, as you may know, different medications work for different people. SOMETIME it even helps to go to counceling. The reason I say sometime is because some people feel better afterwards and some worse. All you need to do is just keep trying to overcome your panic and fear. It’s hard, but hopefully one day we’ll both overcome them. I wish you the best of luck and know first hand what you’re feeling.

Your first course of action is to stay calm..it’s not easy I know, but with time you will be able to master it.
Two of my daughters and I suffer with panic attacks and they really can be very frightening.Your chest tightens, breathing becomes shallow, cold sweats are to name just a few symptoms.
When I had my first attack I honestly thought I was dying and was given a course of Valium to help me over the it.
Over a period of time I have learnt to control it myself with breathing techniques, taking a warm aromatherapy bath, burning some scented candles while listening to the sounds of the ocean,I have a gadget that plays various sounds, now I wouldn’t be without it.
Talking to someone who understands is always good,it helps take your mind off the attack.Going for a walk is also beneficial.
Whatever you choose it WILL help..just stay calm.

Look at the website for EFT and check out this amazing technique, it really works – it’s worked for me for loads of stuff! EFT works on the meridians and stops the emotional response dead in its tracks and is safe and effective. Good luck :-)

OH thoes ugly panic attacts, yes i have them also…i usually can control them with breathing excerises, but some times i can’t breath at all. I also have the chocking kind,to where my throut closes up. i gag, and try to get my breath, they are so bad.I had one going into a restrant. my doctor told me to carry Primatene Mist.with me at all times.cause my throut does spasam and closes. It does not happen to much any more but is frighting..for sure. i also can not go to the movies either…i think it is the surround sound they have now. i take a pill at nite that works for 24 hours, sometimes i have to take one durning the day or am when i get up. but not offten now. i try to sit them out and breath, deeply. i used to get them in stores, and have to leave. but i got out of the big cities, and live in the mountains, it is peaceful here. and i do live a quiet life, with my dogs and husband. so if your living in the city and a fast pace of life, consider the country side.
it sure has made a difference for me. if you get a relaxation tape -call transenmediton it will help alot.
hope i helped some, in letting you know us panic people are all over lol.

I believe a panic attack occurs after you have achieved a psychosis. Recovery will be slow but the panics are associated with things, people etc. So be safe in a safe place. Having a hot flash is bad enough but it is the fear in the mind that matters. I am willing to email on this.
