I thought i was having panic attacks before this weekend for a while, (i thought i was going to die, that my throat was closing etc) im very worried. This past weekend i woke up in the middle of the night and started shaking, and couldnt stop. I went to the ER and they said i had been hyperventalating which cut off the calcium or something like that. Since then ive been having multiple panic attacks a day. Can panic attacks last more then a day? I dont have them all the time only in certain situations (ie ill be in class.) I dont even know if im having panic attacks, thats just what they told me–what are some symptoms? Im actually terrified i have something else-i feel like i cant breathe and that im going to die. Im even terrified to go to sleep-when i do go to sleep i wake up periodically. Is this abnormal?

It definitely sounds like panic attacks as I’ve had them for 10 years! I am on medications and i’ve worked the Lucinda Basset program and I have them under control! When you have these happen always tell yourself, it is only anxiety and I will not die from them!! You have to train your mind over and over to finally convince it that feelings are only that not facts! You need to think of happy, calming thoughts because your mind is telling your body that there is something to fear! This is not true!!! There are many people out there that can help you teach your mind that it is not going to fool you!! Learn meditation, relaxation methods. You need to take time for yourself! Reach out, people are there just for the asking! You are strong and you will get through this I know as I have!

I recommend drinking hot chocolate or something relaxing, fall asleep with the tv on if you can. Try not to think of all the "what if’s" but just relax and see if it helps?

Yes it’s abnormal, but it happens.
My son suffers from panic attacks, we call them breathing attacks.
You need to figure out the trigger.
You need to find a way to deal.
You can go see the doc for some help.
My son has learned to catch them before they get bad. Then he focuses on taking slow deep breaths in through the nose, then releasing slowly through the mouth.
They are awful, but remember, you are stronger than the trigger!

Your having just that—-A panic attack. They can be as small as just a little dizziness, to feeling like a heart attack.

I get them so bad, that I literally pass out or even vomit.
You may be getting them from stress, a panic attack can raise your blood pressure and heart rate which makes you feel like your going to die, the tight throat and chest feeling you get.

If your still worried about it I’d say to get a second opinion, im not a doctor, but I do suffer from sever panic attacks.

What helps me is to lay down on my side, and consintrate on my breathing and slowing it down, or putting my head between my legs if i feel like im going to pass out.

But i urge you and supprt you on getting a second opinion from a family health care provider, as ER doctors do not spend enough time to worry about 1 patient at a time.

I hope this helps, and good luck, I hope you feel better!

It sounds to me that you GAD- General Anxiety Disorder. GAD can cause panic attacks. The worst part of it is, is that you can cause your own panic attack by worrying about having one. Panic attacks come and go, just know that it will pass and you are not dying. You should see a doctor to make sure that nothing else could be wrong, but it sounds to me that yes, you are having a panic attack. Try controlling your breathing. Breathe into a paper bag with long breaths. Try and steady your breathing. Understand that it will pass. In between your panic attacks, it sounds like you are having heavy anxiety. Go to a doctor and talk about it. Knowledge is power.
Anxiety can cause all kinds of other health problems. There are many kinds of drugs to help with GAD and panic attacks. It’s a very common problem. The more you talk about it, the more you will understand it. You must have a lot of overwhelming things going on in your life. Change, overwhelming situations and even good things can cause anxiety and panic attacks. I have GAD and have had many Panic Attacks. I control it by going to therapy, medication, knowing my anxiety triggers and yoga. Good Luck
