Panic Attacks & Weird Thoughts?

I have panic disorder. I’ve had my panic attacks under control for about 4 months now. But now once and awhile, instead of having a panic attack, I start having weird thoughts. I don’t know how to explain it. They’re just totally ridiculous, irrational thoughts, but in that short moment they seem so real and scary. And make me feel like I’m crazy. But I don’t have the physical symptoms of panic attacks anymore. Are these thoughts related to my panic disorder? I’m thinking they are because I have them mostly at night which is when I’d have panic attacks. Does anyone else with panic disorder experience weird thoughts even when not having an attack?

I also have panic disorder, and have weird thoughts and my mind races at times, especially during times of stress, and not necessarily when having a panic attack. As others have mentioned, you should tell your Doctor or counselor. Are you taking any medication? I take Prozac and Imiprimine, and many people have nightmares while taking SSRI’s. I know I do!! I awake from these dreams, and they seem so real that many times it takes a day or two to get over them. Anyways, I don’t think you’re crazy, you’re probably just under a little stress, and this is the symptom that’s occurring right now. Good luck to you, you have my prayers and thoughts!

These thoughts could very well be tied into the panic attacks. But there is no substitute for good professional care. Go ask someone who knows this stuff for sure. . .and good luck to you. Panic attacks are the pits–I know too much caffiene (coffee) could set these off.

I am pretty sure they are related to your disorder. But do go to your therapist. They can have 100% correct answers.
I have anxiety due to a chemical imbalance. And sometimes I do get racing thoughts. And weird thoughts. And even sometimes images. It is a horrible feeling.
If you feel the thoughts starting, turn on your T.V., read a book, listen to music, play a game. Do anything that will settle your mind.
Having anxiety stinks…it changes your life. I hope you get through it.
Good luck! =]

What kind of thoughts do you have ? and dont be afraid to be truthful, they are probably impulses which is your brains way of relieving stress, the reason i ask what kind of thoughts you have is because i have anxiety disorder to and maybe i have experienced the same thing, if people can just communicate with each other , and dont be labeled a crazy person we could all get a handle on our problems, feel free to email me for support. goodyeargordy@yahoo.com

Relax girl you are in a classic mental illness. You had depression to start which escalated to severe then you became psychotic for a while and went beyond neurosis from your love affair gone bad. Panic occurred then when the base of the brain disassociated thoughts from a logical order to confusion. One pattern now evokes fear. You are probably back in psychosis now and need to settle down. Your brain didn’t like the expectations you had for life and sex and when faced with reality you stuck to your beliefs. Your brain did not forgive you. It will take a very long time for your brain to heal and associate thoughts in a logical pattern again. You can go on meds for the time or you can find new friends to help you learn. All the old friends and family will trigger some kind of error in association of thoughts.

You probably have a anxiety disorder which causes panic attacks. Anxiety disorders will cause someone to have unrealistic thoughts and fears about family and friends. The most common thoughts are considered "what ifs." This means that you think about situation and wonder what if this happens. This does not mean that you are crazy, you have an anxiety disorder, which makes these thoughts come about. Most people have these thoughts at night and can even make you afraid enough that you can’t fall asleep. I would recommend getting on xanax and taking it right before bed, it will help get rid of the bad thoughts.

I have been having panic/anxiety attacks for 2+ years now, & yes, I do think it’s related to this disorder….Are you on any medication?…Do you see a Dr.?, counselor?….I’ve been going to mental health for what you’re explaining, for over a yr. now…Medication helps…I take Zoloft which is good for depression & anxiety…I was on Ativan, but, it had a bad reaction with me, so now I’m on another type of medication….If you are on medication, it’s possible that med. isn’t agreeing with you like it should, & you should tell your Dr…Sometimes it takes time to see what med. is right for you…What is right for one person isn’t always right for you, & vice versa…..I find it’s best to occupy your mind when you’re having those weird thoughts…Get up & do something, just anything…Most of the time I start painting…It takes your mind off of things…Call a friend, read a book, take a walk, work in the garden, play with a pet, etc….Don’t listen to any voices you may hear in your head either…I experience this when I’m very anxious, or just had a panic attack, or having one, etc…Just don’t allow for yourself to think you’re crazy..cause it always goes away…I believe that’s just something else that comes with all of this disorder…You sometimes have to talk yourself ‘down’…Tell yourself it’ll be ok, take deep breaths & exhale, etc…You’ll be just fine….And don’t think you’re crazy, or you’re the only one experiencing this…

Good luck!
