Question about anxiety/panic attacks and a fear of throwing up…?
Ok, so I know this sounds REALLY dumb. However, when I was a kid I threw up in front of my class because my teacher wouldn’t let me go to the bathroom.
Since then I’ve developed anxiety and panic attacks – for about 19 years now, basically my biggest fear is embarrassing myself by puking in public. I actually almost have it beat though, I have tried everything, but the book I’m reading, ‘When Panic Attacks,’ is great – if you are a sufferer as well I highly recommend it.
Anyway, I’m getting side-tracked. So, my question is: Is there something I can take that can kind of ‘shut off’ the throw up mechanism? Like that motion sickness medication or anything?
I don’t think I would ever take it anyway, and I just quit my daily medication of Buspar and .5 mg Ativan 2x a day – but I’m wondering in case I’m in a really anxiety-provoking situation, like a flight.
Thanks, sorry about such a random dumb question – I know deep down I run just a minute risk of getting sick anyway, but figured I’d ask.
Medication to help prevent vomiting are called Antiemetics. Maybe you will be able to get your doctor to prescribe this type of medication. Good Luck.
