I’m not, but if you tune into BBC radio 2 at the moment, they’re talking about just this.

Go to your GP and ask him to refer you for some CBT – it’s the recommended way to deal with agoraphobia and panic disorder. I don’t know how old you are, so not sure if you’ll be referred to adult or adolescent services. The Primary Mental Health Service for Lancaster is in St Leonard’s house – by the Grand Theatre, and they’re on 01524 68743. They should give you some advice. In the meantime try downloading the booklet on panic from here – ( http://www.nnt.nhs.uk/mh/content.asp?PageName=selfhelp ) – lots of people find it useful.

Yes, Christiaan is right – make an appointment with your doctor and ask to be referred to a cognitive behavourial therapist who will explain what is happening to your body when you get an attack. Having this knowledge enables you to understand and cope positively if an attack comes on. It doesn’t matter what’s gone on in your life in the past which you may feel is the cause of your anxiety, c.b.t. will help you if you let allow it. The future now…good luck! Don’t mask the problem with drugs.
